Host computer software specifications for a zero-g payload manhandling simulator

The HP PASCAL source code was developed for the Mission Planning and Analysis Division (MPAD) of NASA/JSC, and takes the place of detailed flow charts defining the host computer software specifications for MANHANDLE, a digital/graphical simulator that can be used to analyze the dynamics of onorbit (zero-g) payload manhandling operations. Input and output data for representative test cases are contained.

Computer programs for passive anti-roll tank, earth resources laboratory applications, the NIMBUS-7 coastal zone color scanner derived products, transportable applications executive, plastic and failure analysis of composites, velocity gradient method for calculating velocities in an axisymmetric annular duct, an integrated procurement management system, data I/O PRON for the Motorola exorcisor, aerodynamic shock-layer shape, kinematic modeling, hardware library for a graphics computer, and a file archival system are documented.

An allotment planning concept and related computer software for planning the fixed satellite service at the 1988 space WARC

Described is a two-phase approach to allotment planning suitable for use in establishing the fixed satellite service at the 1988 Space World Administrative Radio Conference (ORB-88). The two phases are (1) the identification of predetermined geostationary arc segments common togroups of administrations, and (2) the use of a synthesis program to identify example scenarios of space station placements. The planning approach is described in detail and is related to the objectives of the confernece. Computer software has been developed to implement the concepts, and a complete discussion on the logic and rationale for identifying predetermined arc segments is given. Example scenarios are evaluated to give guidance in the selection of the technical characteristics of space communications systems to be planned. The allotment planning concept described guarantees in practice equitable access to the geostationary orbit, provides flexibility in implementation, and reduces the need for coordination among administrations.

Development and use of the computer software package for planning the 12 GHz broadcasting-satellite service at RARC '83

The 1983 Regional Administrative Radio Conference (RARC '83) had mainly the objective to draw up a plan of detailed frequency assignments and orbital positions for the 12 GHz broadcasting-satellite service (BSS) in ITU Region 2 (the Western Hemisphere) and associated feeder links (earth-to-space) in the 17 GHz band. It was found that for RARC '83 new planning methods and procedures would be needed. The new requirements made it necessary to develop a new generation of planning software. Attention is given to the development of the computer programs to be used at the conference, the package of computer programs, and the use of the computer programs.

An effort at Ames Research Center to standardize NASA websites unexpectedly led to a breakthrough in open source cloud computing technology. With the help of Rackspace Inc. of San Antonio, Texas, the resulting product, OpenStack, has spurred the growth of an entire industry that is already employing hundreds of people and generating hundreds of millions in revenue.

A computer software system for integration and analysis of grid-based remote sensing data with other natural resource data. Remote Sensing Project

A computer-based information system is described designed to assist in the integration of commonly available spatial data for regional planning and resource analysis. The Resource Analysis Program (RAP) provides a variety of analytical and mapping phases for single factor or multi-factor analyses. The unique analytical and graphic capabilities of RAP are demonstrated with a study conducted in Windsor Township, Eaton County, Michigan. Soil, land cover/use, topographic and geological maps were used as a data base to develope an eleven map portfolio. The major themes of the portfolio are land cover/use, non-point water pollution, waste disposal, and ground water recharge.

Users' Guide to Vinci: Personal Computer Software for Planning Image-based Measurements in Wind Tunnels

Vinci is software that can be used to plan image-based measurements in wind tunnels. It allows the user to plan the placement of cameras and the choice of lenses well in advance of a test, thereby reducing the set-up time and cost when tunnel occupancy begins. It can also be used post-test to display data (pressure-sensitive paint, particle image velocimetry, model deformation) in context with the test article. Vinci is self-contained and runs on personal computers under Windows operating systems. No other software is required. Test articles are represented by CFD-like surface grids that may be read from an external file or created within the program as a combination of simple geometric shapes. The user controls the position and orientation of the test article through a Graphical User Interface (GUI) and may add many additional objects, including tunnel walls and windows, a wide variety of simple geometric shapes, mirrors, lamps, and laser sheets. The application computes simulated images from up to 40 cameras. Images are based on pinhole projection. Each camera is defined by the sensor size and the focal length of the lens. All camera parameters, including position and point angles, are controlled through the GUI. Simulated images are displayed in a window of the GUI and may be saved as bitmaps.
