Search for CP violation in ${D}_{(s)}^{+}$ → K - K + K + decays

A search for direct CP violation in the Cabibbo-suppressed decay \( {D}_s^{+} \) → K - K + K + and in the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay D + → K - K + K + is reported. The analysis is performed with data collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.6 fb - 1 . The search is conducted by comparing the \( {D}_{(s)}^{+} \) and \( {D}_{(s)}^{-} \) Dalitz-plot distributions through a model-independent binned technique, based on fits to the K - K + K + invariant-mass distributions, with a total of 0.97 (1.27) million \( {D}_s^{+} \) ( D + ) signal candidates. The results are given as p -values for the hypothesis of CP conservation and are found to be 13.3% for the \( {D}_s^{+} \) → K - K + K + decay and 31.6% for the D + → K - K + K + decay. No evidence for CP violation is observed in these decays.

Measurements of branching fractions and asymmetry parameters of $ {\Xi}_c^0\to \Lambda {\overline{K}}^{\ast 0} $, $ {\Xi}_c^0\to {\Sigma}^0{\overline{K}}^{\ast 0} $, and $ {\Xi}_c^0\to {\Sigma}^{+}{K}^{\ast -} $ decays at Belle

Using a data sample of 980 fb -1 collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e - collider, we study the processes of ${\Xi}_c^0\to \Lambda {\overline{K}}^{\ast 0}$, ${\Xi}_c^0\to {\Sigma}^0{\overline{K}}^{\ast 0}$, and ${\Xi}_c^0\to {\Sigma}^{+}{K}^{\ast -}$ for the first time. The relative branching ratios to the normalization mode of ${\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^{-}{\pi}^{+}$ are measured to be ${\displaystyle \begin{array}{c}\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to \Lambda {\overline{K}}^{\ast 0}\right)/\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)=0.18\pm 0.02\left(\mathrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.01\left(\mathrm{syst}.\right),\\ {}\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Sigma}^0{\overline{K}}^{\ast 0}\right)/\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)=0.69\pm 0.03\left(\mathrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.03\left(\mathrm{syst}.\right),\\ {}\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Sigma}^{+}{K}^{\ast -}\right)/\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)=0.34\pm 0.06\left(\mathrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.02\left(\mathrm{syst}.\right),\end{array}}$ where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. We obtain ${\displaystyle \begin{array}{c}\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to \Lambda {\overline{K}}^{\ast 0}\right)=\left(3.3\pm 0.3\left(\mathrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.2\left(\mathrm{syst}.\right)\pm 1.0\left(\mathrm{ref}.\right)\right)\times {10}^{-3},\\ {}\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Sigma}^0{\overline{K}}^{\ast 0}\right)=\left(12.4\pm 0.5\left(\mathrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.5\left(\mathrm{syst}.\right)\pm 3.6\left(\mathrm{ref}.\right)\right)\times {10}^{-3},\\ {}\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Sigma}^{+}{K}^{\ast 0}\right)=\left(6.1\pm 1.0\left(\mathrm{stat}.\right)\pm 0.4\left(\mathrm{syst}.\right)\pm 1.8\left(\mathrm{ref}.\right)\right)\times {10}^{-3},\end{array}}$ where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and from $\mathcal{B}\left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Xi}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)$, respectively. The asymmetry parameters $\alpha \left({\Xi}_c^0\to \Lambda {\overline{K}}^{\ast 0}\right)$ and $\alpha \left({\Xi}_c^0\to {\Sigma}^{+}{K}^{\ast -}\right)$ are 0.15 ± 0.22(stat.) ± 0.04(syst.) and -0.52 ± 0.30(stat.) ± 0.02(syst.), respectively, where the uncertainties are statistical followed by systematic.

Measurement of C P asymmetries in B 0 → K S 0 K S 0 K S 0 decays at Belle II

We report a measurement of decay-time-dependent charge-parity ( C P ) asymmetries in B 0 → K S 0 K S 0 K S 0 decays. We use 387 × 10 6 B B ¯ pairs collected at the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy electron-positron collider. We reconstruct 220 signal events and extract the C P -violating parameters S and C from a fit to the distribution of the decay-time difference between the two B mesons. The resulting confidence region is consistent with previous measurements in B 0 → K S 0 K S 0 K S 0 and B 0 → ( c c ¯ ) K 0 decays and with predictions based on the standard model. Measurement of branching fractions of ${\Lambda}_{\textrm{c}}^{+}$ decays to Σ⁺K⁺K⁻, Σ⁺Φ and Σ⁺K⁺π⁻(π 0 )

Based on 4.5 fb - 1 data taken at seven center-of-mass energies ranging from 4.600 to 4.699 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we measure the branching fractions of \( {\Lambda}_c^{+} \) → Σ + + hadrons relative to \( {\Lambda}_c^{+} \) → Σ + π + π - . Combining with the world average branching fraction of \( {\Lambda}_c^{+} \) → Σ + π + π - , their branching fractions are measured to be (0 . 377 ± 0 . 042 ± 0 . 020 ± 0 . 021)% for \( {\Lambda}_c^{+} \) → Σ + K + K - , (0 . 200 ± 0 . 023 ± 0 . 011 ± 0 . 011)% for \( {\Lambda}_c^{+} \) → Σ + K + π - , (0 . 414 ± 0 . 080 ± 0 . 030 ± 0 . 023)% for \( {\Lambda}_c^{+} \) → Σ + Φ and (0 . 197 ± 0 . 036 ± 0 . 009 ± 0 . 011)% for \( {\Lambda}_c^{+} \) → Σ + K + K - (non- Φ ). In all the above results, the first uncertainties are statistical, the second are systematic and the third are from external input of the branching fraction of \( {\Lambda}_c^{+} \) → Σ + π + π - . Since no signal for \( {\Lambda}_c^{+} \) → Σ + K + π - π 0 is observed, the upper limit of its branching fraction is determined to be 0.13% at the 90% confidence level.

Measurement of branching fractions for Λ c + → n K S 0 π + and Λ c + → n K S 0 K +

Based on 4.5 fb − 1 of e + e − collision data accumulated at center-of-mass energies between 4599.53 and 4698.82 MeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the absolute branching fraction of the Cabibbo-favored decay Λ c + → n K S 0 π + with the precision improved by a factor of 2.8 and report the first evidence for the singly-Cabibbo-suppressed decay Λ c + → n K S 0 K + . The branching fractions for Λ c + → n K S 0 π + and Λ c + → n K S 0 K + are determined to be ( 1.86 ± 0.08 ± 0.04 ) × 10 − 2 and ( 3. 9 − 1.4 + 1.7 ± 0.3 ) × 1 0 − 4 , respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. Absolute absorption cross sections of ozone at 300 K, 228 K and 195 K in the wavelength region 185-240 nm

An account is given of progress of work on absorption cross section measurements of ozone at 300 K, 228 K and 195 K in the wavelength region 185-240 nm. In this wavelength region, the penetration of solar radiation into the Earth's atmosphere is controlled by O2 and O3. The transmitted radiation is available to dissociate trace species such as halocarbons and nitrous oxide. We have recently measured absolute absorption cross sections of O3 in the wavelength region 240-350 nm (Freeman et al., 1985; Yoshino et al., 1988). We apply these proven techniques to the determination of the absorption cross section of O3 at 300 K, 228 K and 195 K throughout the wavelength region 185-240 nm. A paper titled 'Absolute Absorption Cross Section Measurements of Ozone in the Wavelength Region 185-254 nm and the Temperature Dependence' has been submitted for publication in the Journal of Geophysical Research.

Measurement and analysis of distribution coefficients in Fe-Ni alloys containing S and/or P. II - K(Ir), K(Ge), and K(Cu)

Crystals of Fe-Ni-S-P alloys containing Ir, Ge, and Cu in small amounts were grown by plane front solidification. The electron microprobe was used to measure the compositions of these alloys. The Ir, Ge, and Cu distribution coefficients were determined by an analytical procedure from the composition data. The distribution coefficients of Ir, Ge, and Cu vary from 1.20 to 11.0, 0.75 to 2.1, and 0.06 to 0.84, respectively. K(Ir) and K(Ge) increase and K(Cu) decreases with the S content of the liquid. K(Cu) increases and K(Ir) and K(Ge) decrease with the P content of the liquid. Mathematical expressions have been formulated to relate the Ir, Ge, and Cu distribution coefficients to the S and P contents of the liquid. These distribution coefficients are important to the study of the solidification behavior of iron meteorites.

A study of $CP$ violation in the decays $B^±$ → [$K^+ K^-π^+π^-$]$_Dh^±$ ($h$ = $K, π$) and $B^±$ → [$π^+π^-π^+π^-$]$_Dh^±$

The first study of CP violation in the decay mode $B^±$ → [$K^+ K^-π^+π^-$]$_Dh^±$, with $h$ = $K, π$, is presented, exploiting a data sample of proton–proton collisions collected by the LHCb experiment that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb -1 . The analysis is performed in bins of phase space, which are optimised for sensitivity to local CP asymmetries. CP-violating observables that are sensitive to the angle γ of the Unitarity Triangle are determined. The analysis requires external information on charm-decay parameters, which are currently taken from an amplitude analysis of LHCb data, but can be updated in the future when direct measurements become available. Measurements are also performed of phase-space integrated observables for $B^±$ → [$K^+ K^-π^+π^-$]$_Dh^±$ and $B^±$ → [$π^+π^-π^+π^-$]$_Dh^±$ decays.

K S 0 K S 0 and K S 0 K± femtoscopy in pp collisions at s = 5.02 and 13 TeV

The ALICE collaboration has studied neutral kaon pair correlations and neutral kaon - charged kaon correlations generated from 5.02, 7 and 13 TeV proton-proton collisions produced by the CERN Large Hadron Collider. From analyzing this data, we have show a strong suggestion that the a 0 (980) particle generated in these collisions, which decays into these kaon pairs, is a four-quark particle, instead of the usual two and three-quark particles which are normally seen.

Strain-cycling fatigue behavior of ten structural metals tested in liquid helium (4 K), in liquid nitrogen (78 K), and in ambient air (300 K)

Strain-cycling fatigue behavior of 10 different structural alloys and metals was investigated in liquid helium (4 K), in liquid nitrogen (78 K), and in ambient air (300 K). At high cyclic lives, fatigue resistance increased with decreasing temperature for all the materials investigated. At low cyclic lives, fatigue resistance generally decreased with decreasing temperature for the materials investigated. Only for Inconel 718 did fatigue resistance increase with decreasing temperature over the entire life range investigated. Comparison of the experimental fatigue behavior with that predicted by the Manson method of universal slopes showed that the fatigue behavior of these materials can be predicted for cryogenic temperatures by using material tensile properties obtained at those same temperatures.

Experimental study of high-k turbulence during an energy confinement degradation phase in EAST ohmic plasmas

In this paper, we present experimental studies of both high-k(r) ( cm(-1), and , respectively; ) and high- ( cm(-1), and , respectively; ) turbulence behavior during an ohmic energy confinement degradation phase in experimental advanced superconducting tokamak (EAST). High-k(r) turbulence from density fluctuation at and high- turbulence from density fluctuation at -0.97 were measured by tangential and poloidal CO2 laser collective scattering diagnostics, respectively. Note that k(r), , and are radial wavenumber, poloidal wavenumber, perpendicular wavenumber and ion gyroradius at electron temperature, respectively. Both high-k(r)/ turbulence power and energy confinement time are found to be temporally correlated to line-averaged electron density n(e) in the plasma current flat-top phase (I-p = 0.4 MA): when the n(e) shows continuous increase/decrease, the high-k(r)/ turbulence power increases/decreases correspondingly and the shows corresponding decrease/increase; the stable n(e) is related to stable both and high-k(r)/ turbulence power. Statistical results of high-k(r)/ turbulence power versus further imply that high-k(r)/ turbulence shows a strong correlation with plasma energy confinement degradation in high line-averaged n(e) condition, but high-k(r) and high- turbulence have relatively weak and no dependence on the transition between linear range in low-n(e) condition and energy confinement degradation in the high-n(e) condition, respectively. Moreover, profiles of electron temperature T-e and n(e) as well as their normalized gradients in a part of high- density fluctuation measurement region also have been given to qualitatively explain the enhancement of turbulence power with the increase of line-averaged n(e).
