Enhanced electrolysis performance through hierarchical nanoparticle formation in the BaCo 0.4 Fe 0.4 Zr 0.1 Y 0.1 O 3-δ cathode materials system

This study demonstrated that the activity of a triple conducting BaCo 0.4 Fe 0.4 Zr 0.1 Y 0.1 O 3-δ (BCFZY0.1) air cathode was improved by in situ formation BCFZY0.1 nanoparticles (NPs). The NPs, directly formed from the reaction of BCFZY0.1 with H 2 O and CO 2 from air under electrolysis measurements conditions, were uniformly distributed in a porous BCFZY0.1 framework. At 600 °C, the current density increased and reached a plateau of 1.12 A/cm 2 with the hierarchical BCFZY0.1 cathode under electrolysis conditions within 400 h operation. Distribution of Relaxation Time (DRT) measurements found that the polarization resistance decreased over time as NPs were formed. Furthermore, SEM and TEM results confirm the nanoparticle formation, and the chemical and structural features were assigned to a BCFZY0.1 phase.

Pathways to High-Performance Salt Hydrate Thermochemical Energy Storage Materials and Systems

Thermochemical materials (TCMs) based on salt hydrates are promising for thermal energy storage as they combine high energy densities with low reaction temperatures. However, their adoption is hindered by poor structural integrity and degradation under hygrothermal cycling. Storage performance is governed not only by the chemical reaction, but also by the coupled thermo-chemo-mechanical behavior that evolves with cycling. Understanding and controlling this coupling across length scales (material-to-reactor) is necessary to improve TCM stability and lifetime. In this perspective, we discuss the shortcomings of current characterization approaches and emphasize the need for measuring transport properties and structural transformations using in situ techniques that capture the dynamic evolution of these materials. We also outline opportunities for multiscale modeling frameworks that link thermodynamics and mechanics, enabling predictive evaluation of composite architectures designed for cycling stability. We conclude by identifying research questions that must be addressed to transform TCMs into viable energy storage technologies.

Methods and systems for microwave assisted production of graphitic materials

Systems and methods for plasma based synthesis of graphitic materials. The system includes a plasma forming zone configured to generate a plasma from radio-frequency radiation, an interface element configured to transmit the plasma from the plasma forming zone to a reaction zone, and the reaction zone configured to receive the plasma. The reaction zone is further configured to receive feedstock material comprising a carbon containing species, and convert the feedstock material to a product comprising the graphitic materials in presence of the plasma.

Computer program product for classifying materials

Systems and methods for classifying materials utilizing one or more sensor systems, which may implement a machine learning system in order to identify or classify each of the materials, which may then be sorted into separate groups based on such an identification or classification. The machine learning system may utilize a neural network, and be previously trained to recognize and classify certain types of materials.
