Does Marine Surface Tension Have Global Biogeography? Addition for the OCEANFILMS Package

We apply principles of Gibbs phase plane chemistry across the entire ocean-atmosphere interface to investigate aerosol generation and geophysical transfer issues. Marine surface tension differences comprise a tangential pressure field controlling trace gas fluxes, primary organic inputs, and sea spray salt injections, in addition to heat and momentum fluxes. Mapping follows from the organic microlayer composition, now represented in ocean system models. Organic functional variations drive the microforcing, leading to (1) reduced turbulence and (by extension) laminar gas-energy diffusion; plus (2) altered bubble film mass emission into the boundary layer. Interfacial chemical behaviors are, therefore, closely reviewed as the background. We focus on phase transitions among two dimensional “solid, liquid, and gaseous” states serving as elasticity indicators. From the pool of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) only proteins and lipids appear to occupy significant atmospheric interfacial areas. The literature suggests albumin and stearic acid as the best proxies, and we distribute them through ecodynamic simulation. Consensus bulk distributions are obtained to control their adsorptive equilibria. We devise parameterizations for both the planar free energy and equation of state, relating excess coverage to the surface pressure and its modulus. Constant settings for the molecular surrogates are drawn from laboratory study and successfully reproduce surfactant solid-to-gas occurrence in compression experiments. Since DOC functionality measurements are rare, we group them into super-ecological province tables to verify aqueous concentration estimates. Outputs are then fed into a coverage, tension, elasticity code. The resulting two dimensional pressure contours cross a critical range for the regulation of precursor piston velocity, bubble breakage, and primary aerosol sources plus ripple damping. Concepts extend the water-air adsorption theory currently embodied in our OCEANFILMS aerosol emissions package, and the two approaches could be inserted into Earth System Models together. Uncertainties in the logic include kinetic and thermochemical factors operating at multiple scales.

Application of Electronics Packaging Fundamentals to Photovoltaic Interconnects and Packaging

The energy capacity of photovoltaic (PV) installations worldwide has increased significantly in the last decade, increasing the demand for rigorous investigation of the physical phenomena causing degradation and failures in PV modules. As PV reliability science develops, established methods and approaches from longer-standing industries can inform and expedite PV reliability advances. This work demonstrates how thermomechanical solder bond fatigue models derived for electronics packaging applications can be applied to both standard and emerging PV interconnect designs. This expertise cannot be directly translated to PV however, as target PV module lifetimes are significantly longer than most electronics and the modules must withstand the natural climate wherever they are deployed. Verification of analytical reliability models is then an additional challenge, due to model size, test time, and climate variability. Furthermore, unconventional materials, such as low-temperature solders, are now being integrated into PV designs, for which appropriate material models must be selected and material parameters derived. In this paper, the current state of PV interconnect research is explored, with an emphasis on the experimental and simulation approaches and models being used for this work. Recent results for standard module architectures as well as emerging interconnect schemes are discussed.

Getting Beyond Widgets: Performance of Efficient Indoor Air Quality System Retrofit Packages for Schools A report on the modeled energy, greenhouse gas, and cost savings of several multi-measure retrofit packages for energy efficiency and indoor air quality in primary schools

School facilities are often underfunded with aging and poorly maintained HVAC and lighting systems. Most existing school buildings stand to benefit significantly from retrofits in terms of energy, cost, and emissions savings. Ventilation and indoor air quality (IAQ), which are important aspects of a healthy and productive learning environment, can also be enhanced by some energy efficiency measures (EEMs). Packaging energy efficiency and IAQ systems retrofits may represent a golden opportunity to improve performance in this critical building sector.

Advanced Packaging Materials and Techniques for High Power TR Module: Standard Flight vs. Advanced Packaging

The higher output power densities required of modern radar architectures, such as the proposed DESDynI [Deformation, Ecosystem Structure, and Dynamics of Ice] SAR [Synthetic Aperture Radar] Instrument (or DSI) require increasingly dense high power electronics. To enable these higher power densities, while maintaining or even improving hardware reliability, requires advances in integrating advanced thermal packaging technologies into radar transmit/receive (TR) modules. New materials and techniques have been studied and compared to standard technologies.

PyCCE: A python package for custer correlation expansion simulations of spin qubit dynamics.

PyCCE, an open-source Python library for simulating the dynamics of spin qubits in a spin bath, is presented using the cluster-correlation expansion (CCE) method. PyCCE includes modules to generate realistic spin baths, employing coupling parameters computed from first principles with electronic structure codes, and enables the user to run simulations with either the conventional or generalized CCE method. Three use cases of the Python library are illustrated: the calculation of the Hahn-echo coherence time of the nitrogen-vacancy in diamond; the calculation of the coherence time of the basal divacancy in silicon carbide at avoided crossings; and the calculation for magnetic field orientation-dependent dynamics of a shallow donor in silicon. The complete documentation, downloadable tutorials, and installation instructions are available at https://pycce.readthedocs.io/en/latest/.

The LISE package: solvers for static and time-dependent superfluid local density approximation equations in three dimensions

Nuclear implementation of the density functional theory (DFT) is at present the only microscopic framework applicable to the whole nuclear landscape. The extension of DFT to superfluid systems in the spirit of the Kohn-Sham approach, the superfluid local density approximation (SLDA) and its extension to time-dependent situations, time-dependent superfluid local density ap- proximation (TDSLDA), have been extensively used to describe various static and dynamical problems in nuclear physics, neutron star crust, and cold atom systems. In this paper, we present the codes that solve the static and time-dependent SLDA equations in three-dimensional coordinate space without any symmetry restriction. These codes are fully parallelized with the message passing interface (MPI) library and take advantage of graphic processing units (GPU) for accelerating execution. The dynamic codes have checkpoint/restart capabilities and for initial conditions one can use any generalized Slater determinant type of wave function. The code can describe a large number of physical problems: nuclear fission, collisions of heavy ions, the interaction of quantized vor- tices with nuclei in the nuclear star crust, excitation of superfluid fermion systems by time dependent external fields, quantum shock waves, domain wall generation and propagation, the dynamics of the Anderson-Bogoliubov-Higgs mode, dynamics of fragmented condensates, vortex rings dynamics, generation and dynamics of quantized vortices, their crossing and recombinations and the incipient phases of quantum turbulence.

METACLUSTER—an R package for context-specific expression analysis of metabolic gene clusters

Abstract Summary Plants and microbes produce numerous compounds to cope with their environments but the biosynthetic pathways for most of these compounds have yet to be elucidated. Some biosynthetic pathways are encoded by enzymes collocated in the chromosome. To facilitate a more comprehensive condition and tissue-specific expression analysis of metabolic gene clusters, we developed METACLUSTER, a probabilistic framework for characterizing metabolic gene clusters using context-specific gene expression information. Availability and implementation METACLUSTER is freely available at https://github.com/mbanf/METACLUSTER. Supplementary information Supplementary data are available at Bioinformatics online.

Analysis of ITT scan bearing package (bearing package S/N 7-1004)

A geostationary operational environments satellite (GOES) East-West scan-bearing assembly was examined after having completed two and one-half years of operation. The following results were found: (1) lubrication breakdown was found in both bearings; (2) patchy wear-bands running only approximately half-way around the races indicated a load distribution in the ball groups consistent with a very low preload; (3) contact angles of 31.2 deg (S/N 1004) and 28.7 deg (S/N 1004A) were found in bearings whose contact angles are supposed to be 20+/-2 deg; and (4) contamination was present in the bearings.
