Pulse-shaping circuit for laser excitation

Narrower, impedence-matched pulses initiate stabler electric discharges for gas lasers. Discharges are more efficient, more compact, capable of high repetition rate, and less expensive than conventional electron-beam apparatus, but gas tends to break down and form localized arcs. Pulse-shaping circuit compresses width of high-voltage pulses from relatively-slow rise-time voltage generator and gradually grades circuit impedance from inherent high impedance of generator to low impedence of gas.

Video Processor for Transponder Pulses

Circuit detects interrogation signals from air-traffic-control station and determines whether transponder of airplane should respond. Circuit examines relative magnitudes of first two pulses in three-pulse sequence of interrogation signal. On basis of relative magnitudes, circuit decides whether main lobe of interrogating radar beam is received (response should be generated) or only side lobe received (and interrogation ignored). Circuit simple and inexpensive.

Hybrid circuit achieves pulse regeneration with low power drain

Hybrid tunnel diode-transistor circuit provides a solid-state, low power drain pulse regenerator, frequency limiter, or gated oscillator. When the feedback voltage exceeds the input voltage, the circuit functions as a pulse normalizer or a frequency limiter. If the circuit is direct coupled, it functions as a gated oscillator.

Digital Pulse-Width-Modulation Circuit

Digital pulse-width-modulation circuit provides programmable duration from 1 microsecond to full on, at repetition rate of 1 kHz. Designed for use in controlling CO2 laser, also used in applications in which precision and flexibility of digital control of pulse durations needed. Circuit incorporates low-power Schottky transistor/transistor-logic (TTL) devices in critical high-speed parts. Designed in TTL to make it compatible with Pro-Log 7914 (or equivalent) decoder input/output (I/O) utility printed-circuit card.

Active lamp pulse driver circuit

A flashlamp drive circuit is described which uses an unsaturated transistor as a current mode switch to periodically subject a partially ionized gaseous laser excitation flashlamp to a stable, rectangular pulse of current from an incomplete discharge of an energy storage capacitor. A monostable multivibrator sets the pulse interval, initiating the pulse in response to a flash command by providing a reference voltage to a non-inverting terminal of a base drive amplifier; a tap on an emitter resistor provides a feedback signal sensitive to the current amplitude to an inverting terminal of amplifier, thereby controlling the pulse amplitude. The circuit drives the flashlamp to provide a squarewave current flashlamp discharge.

Multichannel coincidence circuit

Digital circuit detects coincident pulses in two or more channels, and records time between primary pulses that are coincident with secondary pulses. Circuit has three major blocks: interval time subcircuit, measurement control subcircuit, and time sequence generator. Timer can be used in laser velocimeter or other instruments receiving data at irregular rates from two or more sources.

A nanosecond pulsed discharge circuit model for engine applications

Non-equilibrium plasma discharges in spark gaps have been an increasingly studied method for alleviating cycle to cycle variation in lean and dilute combustion environments. However, ignition models that account for streamer propagation, cathode fall, and transmission line amplification over nanosecond time scales have so far not been developed. The present study develops such a model, with emphasis on the energy delivered from circuit to cylinder. Here, key pieces of the relevant physics and chemistry are summarized, simplified, and systematically coupled to one another. The set of parameters is limited to a handful of key observables and modeled using Modelica. Results show non-trivial behavior in the energy delivery characteristics of such discharges with important implications for ignition.

Peak holding circuit for extremely narrow pulses

An improved pulse stretching circuit comprising: a high speed wide-band amplifier connected in a fast charge integrator configuration; a holding circuit including a capacitor connected in parallel with a discharging network which employs a resistor and an FET; and an output buffer amplifier. Input pulses of very short duration are applied to the integrator charging the capacitor to a value proportional to the input pulse amplitude. After a predetermined period of time, conventional circuitry generates a dump pulse which is applied to the gate of the FET making a low resistance path to ground which discharges the capacitor. When the dump pulse terminates, the circuit is ready to accept another pulse to be stretched. The very short input pulses are thus stretched in width so that they may be analyzed by conventional pulse height analyzers.

Power supply including a nonlinear transmission line that receives a single input pulse and outputs a plurality of pulses

Technologies pertaining to a power supply that includes a nonlinear transmission line are described herein. In an embodiment, a DC power supply comprises a pulsing circuit that receives a DC input and outputs a first plurality of pulses having a first frequency to a nonlinear transmission line. The nonlinear transmission line receives the first plurality of pulses and outputs a second plurality of pulses having a second frequency that is greater than the first frequency. The second plurality of pulses is then received at an amplifier/rectifier circuit that amplifies the second pulses to increase a voltage amplitude of the pulses, and rectifies the pulses to provide a substantially constant DC output.

Phase Detector For Rectangular Waveforms

Phase detector for use with phase-locked-loops, servocontrol, and other electronic circuits designed to avoid disadvantages of other phase detectors. Used with both intermittent and continuous input signals. Circuit offers several advantages; reference signals continuous, burst of few pulses, or single pulse. Circuit "coasts" in absence of reference signal. Generates no steady-state output waveform at lock which makes filtering easier.
