Incorporating Combined Heat and Power Modeling into the REopt Lite Web Tool

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is working with project partners to extend the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) REopt Lite tool to include combined heat and power (CHP) modeling capabilities. REopt Lite currently provides technoeconomic optimization and resilience analysis for grid-connected solar photovoltaics, (PV), wind, and battery storage at a site. The tool analyzes hourly data across the project lifecycle and evaluates the trade-off between capital costs, operating costs, and savings to find the most cost-effective mix of technologies.

Linkages Between NREL's dGen, REopt, and SAM Models

This webinar describes linkages between NREL's dGen, SAM, and REopt tools that were developed as a part of the RiDER project, including specifying utility rates in the SAM GUI and using them in dGen adoption analysis, and using REopt to determine optimal system sizes for dGen agents.

REopt: Energy Decision Analysis

The REopt techno-economic decision support platform is used by researchers to optimize energy systems for buildings, campuses, communities, microgrids, and more. REopt recommends the optimal mix of renewable energy, conventional generation, and energy storage technologies to meet cost savings, resilience, emissions reductions, and energy performance goals.

Accessing and Understanding REopt's Federal Assumptions

REopt is a techno-economic analysis platform accessible as a user-friendly web tool that facilitates life cycle cost analysis of distributed energy resources. It is typically used for preliminary assessments to identify the least-cost technology mix, system sizing, and operations strategies towards agency cost savings and resilience goals. This guide identifies and explains REopt inputs for federal life cycle cost analyses, modified from their commercial default values. These federal input defaults are based on statutory requirements for life cycle cost analyses of energy conservation measures at federal facilities per 10 CFR 436 Subpart A.

Evaluate Distributed Energy Technologies for Cost Savings and Resilience With REopt Lite

NREL's REopt Lite TM web tool evaluates the economics of grid connected photovoltaics (PV), wind, and battery storage at a site. It allows users to identify the system sizes and battery dispatch strategy that minimize a site's life cycle cost of energy, and it estimates the amount of time a PV, wind, battery, and diesel generator system can sustain the site's critical load during a grid outage.
