The lattice extraction of the TMD soft function using the auxiliary field representation of the Wilson line

The transverse momentum dependent (TMD) soft function can be obtained by formulating the Wilson line in terms of auxiliary 1-dimensional fermion fields on the lattice. In this formulation, the directional vector of the auxiliary field in Euclidean space has the form ˜ 𝑛 = ¹𝑖𝑛0– ®0?– 𝑛3º, where the time component is purely imaginary. The components of these complex directional vectors in the Euclidean space can be mapped directly to the rapidities of the Minkowski space soft function. We present the results of the one-loop calculation of the Euclidean space analog to the soft function using these complex directional vectors. As a result, we show that the calculation is valid only when the directional vectors obey the relation: j𝑟 j = j𝑛3𝑛0j ¡ 1, and that this result corresponds to a computation in Minkowski space with space-like directed Wilson lines. Finally, we show that a lattice calculable object can be constructed that has the desired properties of the soft function.

First Global Extraction of the Worm-gear TMD g 1 T

In these proceedings, we report on the first simultaneous extraction of the worm-gear function g 1 T , one of the eight leading-twist TMDs. The study analyzes COMPASS, HERMES and JLab semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering data using Monte Carlotechniques. We also provide a comparison of g 1 T obtained from this experimental data with a large N c analysis, the Wandzura–Wilczek-type approximation, and lattice QCD.

Gauge-invariant TMD factorization for Drell-Yan hadronic tensor at small $\mathcal{x}$

The Drell-Yan hadronic tensor for electromagnetic (EM) current is calculated in the Sudakov region $s\gg Q^2 \gg q^2_⊥$ with $\frac{1}{Q^2}$ accuracy, first at the tree level and then with the double-log accuracy. It is demonstrated that in the leading order in $N_c$ the higher-twist quark-quark-gluon TMDs reduce to leading-twist TMDs due to QCD equation of motion. The resulting tensor for unpolarized hadrons is EM gauge-invariant and depends on two leading-twist TMDs: $f_1$ responsible for total DY cross section, and Boer-Mulders function $h\frac{⊥}{1}$. The order-of-magnitude estimates of angular distributions for DY process seem to agree with LHC results at corresponding kinematics.

TMD fragmentation functions at N 3 LO

We compute the unpolarized quark and gluon transverse-momentum dependent fragmentation functions (TMDFFs) at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (N 3 LO) in perturbative QCD. The calculation is based on a relation between the TMDFF and the limit of the semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering cross section where all final-state radiation becomes collinear to the detected hadron. The required cross section is obtained by analytically continuing our recent computation of the Drell-Yan and Higgs boson production cross section at N 3 LO expanded around the limit of all final-state radiation becoming collinear to one of the initial states. Our results agree with a recent independent calculation by Luo et al.

Quasiparticle electronic structure of phthalocyanine:TMD interfaces from first-principles GW

Interfaces formed between monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides and (metallo)phthalocyanine molecules are promising in energy applications and provide a platform for studying mixed-dimensional molecule-semiconductor heterostructures in general. An accurate characterization of the frontier energy level alignment at these interfaces is key in the fundamental understanding of the charge transfer dynamics between the two photon absorbers. Here, we employ the first-principles substrate screening GW approach to quantitatively characterize the quasiparticle electronic structure of a series of interfaces: metal-free phthalocyanine (H 2 Pc) adsorbed on monolayer MX 2 (M = Mo, W; X = S, Se) and zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPc) adsorbed on MoX 2 (X = S, Se). Furthermore, we reveal the dielectric screening effect of the commonly used α-quartz (SiO 2 ) substrate on the H 2 Pc:MoS 2 interface using the dielectric embedding GW approach. Our calculations furnish a systematic set of GW results for these interfaces, providing the structure–property relationship across a series of similar systems and benchmarks for future experimental and theoretical studies.

Transverse Λ polarization in 𝑒 +⁢ 𝑒 − annihilations and in SIDIS processes at the EIC within TMD factorization

We present a phenomenological study on the role of charm contribution and SU(2) isospin symmetry in the extraction of the Λ polarizing fragmentation functions from e + e – → Λ ↑ ($\overline{Λ}$ ↑ )h+X annihilation processes. We adopt the well-established transverse-momentum-dependent factorization formalism, within the Collins-Soper-Sterman evolution scheme at next-to-leading logarithm accuracy, carefully exploiting the role of the nonperturbative component of the polarizing fragmentation function. We then discuss the impact of these results on the predictions for transverse Λ, $\overline{Λ}$ polarization in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering processes at typical energies of the future Electron-Ion Collider.

Polarized TMD fragmentation functions for 𝐽/𝜓 production

We calculate the matching, at leading order, of the transverse momentum-dependent fragmentation functions (TMDFFs) for light quarks and gluons fragmenting to a 𝐽/𝜓 onto polarized nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) TMDFFs. The NRQCD TMDFFs have an operator product expansion in terms of nonperturbative NRQCD production matrix elements. Using the results we obtain, we make predictions for the light quark fragmentation contribution to the production of polarized 𝐽/𝜓 in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) both for unpolarized and longitudinally polarized beams. These results are an important contribution to polarized 𝐽/𝜓 production in SIDIS and thus are needed for comparison with experiments at the future Electron-Ion Collider.

Dielectric screening at TMD:hBN interfaces: Monolayer-to-bulk transition, local-field effect, and spatial dependence

The dielectric effects of a substrate have been shown to be important for modulating the electronic properties of an adsorbate, especially in van der Waals heterostructures. Here, using the first-principles dielectric embedding GW approach within the framework of many-body perturbation theory, we perform a case study on the dielectric screening effects of hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) on various transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs). We consider three systems, monolayer MoS 2 , bilayer MoS 2 , and a mixed WS 2 /MoS 2 bilayer adsorbed on hBN, and examine three aspects of the substrate dielectric screening: (i) the thickness dependence and the monolayer-to-bulk transition, for which we consider the effects of one-, two-, three-, and four-layer hBN; (ii) the local-field effect, for which we numerically assess a common approximation of neglecting the in-plane local-field components of the substrate polarizability; and (iii) the spatial dependence, for which we consider the mixed WS 2 /MoS 2 bilayer adsorbed on hBN with either side facing the substrate. Finally, our results provide quantitative insight into how the substrate screening effects can be leveraged for band structure engineering.

TMD program at JLab

Measurements of multiplicities and asymmetries of multiparticle final states in wide kinematics, including dihadrons and vector mesons, will be crucial for a separation of different structure functions, and different contributions to specific structure functions, used in phenomenological studies of Semi-Inclusive DIS (SIDIS). Measurements of various beam Single Spin Asymmetries are discussed as a possible tool to separate different kinematical regions as well as different dynamical contributions. Precision measurements in JLab, including detailed studies of the $Q^2$ dependences of observables, would also allow testing the impact of several theoretical assumptions used in phenomenological studies of generalized PDFs (GPDs, TMDs) , also providing a mechanism for validation of the extraction frameworks, which is critical for the proper evaluation of systematic uncertainties.
