Computer-aided circuit design by imbedding singular elements to transform network synthesis into analysis problem
Silicon carbide (SiC) junction field effect transistor and SiC resistor (SiC JFET-R) integrated circuits(ICs) have uniquely demonstrated prolonged operation above 450 °C that promises significant operational improvements to a variety of NASA missions. However, the SiC epiwafers used to fabricate these ICs suffer from epi-growth process immaturity that imparts large and systematic spreads in JFET threshold voltages as a function of the device distance from the center on the wafer. Furthermore, the unprecedently wide range of intended application operating temperatures (in many cases over 600 °C wide) imparts as much as 5-fold change in JFET bias currents. This Technical Memorandum documents methods by which both temperature and radius associated JFET electrical parameter variances can be adequately eliminated, or even exploited in JFET-R circuit designs. Full analog circuit examples, including operational amplifiers, and SPICE simulations across experimentally documented SiC JFET parameter extremes are given to illustrate the efficacy of these methods. The reader may use the examples in this memorandum as either an end point, to get a desired analog signal conditioning design into hardware implemented in SiC JFET-R ICs, or as a basis point from which to derive further improvement.
Usually computer-aided design (CAD) refers to programs that analyze circuits conceived by the circuit designer. Among the services such programs should perform are direct network synthesis, analysis, optimization of network parameters, formatting, storage of miscellaneous data, and related calculations. The program should be embedded in a general-purpose conversational language such as BASIC, JOSS, or APL. Such a program is MARTHA, a general-purpose linear-circuit analyzer embedded in APL.

The problems associated with source circuit design for use in photovoltaic (PV) hardware of different manufacturers or processes are discussed. The varying performance of dissimilar materials is examined and the need for standardization of equipment and performance output is investigated.
The source circuit is the fundamental electrical building block of a large central-station array; it consists of a series-parallel network of solar cells that develops full system voltage. The array field is generally made up of a large number of parallel source circuits. Source-circuit electrical configuration is driven by a number of design considerations, which must be considered simultaneously. Array fault tolerance and hot spot heating endurance are examined in detail.

Portions of the Computer Aided Design and Test system, a collection of Large Scale Integrated (LSI) circuit design programs were modified and upgraded. Major modifications were made to the Mask Analysis Program in the form of additional operating commands and file processing options. Modifications were also made to the Artwork Interactive Design System to correct some deficiencies in the original program as well as to add several new command features related to improving the response of AIDS when dealing with large files. The remaining work was concerned with updating various programs within CADAT to incorporate the silicon on sapphire silicon gate technology.
The tidal waves of modern electronic/electrical devices have led to increasing demands for ubiquitous application-specific power converters. A conventional manual design procedure of such power converters is computation- and labor-intensive, which involves selecting and connecting component devices, tuning component-wise parameters and control schemes, and iteratively evaluating and optimizing the design. To automate and speed up this design process, we propose an automatic framework that designs custom power converters from design specifications using Monte Carlo Tree Search. Specifically, the framework embraces the upper-confidence-bound-tree (UCT), a variant of Monte Carlo Tree Search, to automate topology space exploration with circuit design specification-encoded reward signals. Moreover, our UCT-based approach can exploit small offline data via the specially designed default policy and can run in parallel to accelerate topology space exploration. Further, it utilizes a hybrid circuit evaluation strategy to substantially reduce design evaluation costs. Empirically, we demonstrated that our framework could generate energy-efficient circuit topologies for various target voltage conversion ratios. Compared to existing automatic topology optimization strategies, the proposed method is much more computationally efficient --- the sequential version can generate topologies with the same quality while being up to 67% faster. Here, the parallelization schemes can further achieve high speedups compared to the sequential version.
