Studies and analyses of the Space Shuttle Main Engine: SSME failure data review, diagnostic survey and SSME diagnostic evaluation

The results of a review of the Space Shuttle Main Engine (SSME) failure data for the period 1980 through 1983 are presented. The data was collected, evaluated, and ranked according to procedures established during this study. A number of conclusions and recommendations are made based upon this failure data review. The results of a state-of-the-art diagnostic survey are also presented. This survey covered a broad range of diagnostic sensors and techniques and the findings were evaluated for application to the SSME. Finally, a discussion of the initial activities for the on-going SSME diagnostic evaluation is included.

Thematic mapper flight model preshipment review data package. Volume 4: Appendix. Part C: Power supply data

The acceptance test data package for the thematic mapper flight model power supply was reviewed and the data compared to the relevant specification. The power supply was found to be within specification. Final test data for outut voltage regulation and ripple, efficiency, over and undervoltage protection, telemetry, impedances, turn-on requirements, and input current limits are presented.

Sediment Mineralogy Data Review for the Hanford Central Plateau

The compendium of Hanford site sediment mineralogy data provided in this report was initiated in 2012 to support flux mitigation technologies and real-time monitoring that could limit contaminant fluxes to the groundwater in the Central Plateau. Recent efforts in advancing spectral induced polarization as a method for monitoring contaminant transformations for active biogeochemical remedies have underscored the need for a published compendium of sediment characterization data. Although the data are primarily focused on the mineralogical composition of Hanford sediments, other soil measurements such as particle size distribution such as particle size distribution and carbon content are provided. The data have been reproduced from the original reports and are provided here for information only (FIO).

ExMC Ground-Based Space Radiation Analog Pilot Drug Stability Studay: Final Data Review

Uncertainty regarding space radiation effects on medication degradation and potency remains high, though early data suggest that space radiation may affect the potency and quality of some pharmaceuticals. In the absence of empirical spaceflight measurements to characterize this risk area for long-duration planetary missions, high-fidelity ground-based targeted radiation analogs could provide valuable insights. The NASA Human Research Program's (HRP) Exploration Medical Capability (ExMC) Element conducted a pilot study to characterize the chemical stability of four selected medications exposed to rapid switching, mixed-species simulated galactic cosmic radiation (GCR) beams at the NASA Space Radiation Laboratory (NSRL), at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). The research objective was to compare the effects of simulated GCR beam exposures on drug stability to those previously observed following spaceflight.

SSI-ARC Flight Test 3 Data Review

The "Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Integration into the National Airspace System (NAS)" Project conducted flight test program, referred to as Flight Test 3, at Armstrong Flight Research Center from June - August 2015. Four flight test days were dedicated to the NASA Ames-developed Detect and Avoid (DAA) System referred to as Autoresolver. The encounter scenarios, which involved NASA's Ikhana UAS and a manned intruder aircraft, were designed to collect data on DAA system performance in real-world conditions and uncertainties with four different surveillance sensor systems. Resulting flight test data and analysis results will be used to evaluate the DAA system performance (e.g., trajectory prediction accuracy, threat detection) and to add fidelity to simulation models used to inform Minimum Operating Performance Standards (MOPS) for integrating UAS into routine NAS operations.

Radiation Impact on Pharmaceutical Stability: Retrospective Data Review

Historical studies performed by the JSC Pharmacotherapeutics Discipline suggest that exposure to spaceflight conditions may compromise the safety and efficacy of some medications. Follow-on studies have revealed that affected medications demonstrate reductions in active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) concentrations and altered release characteristics. It was hypothesized that the changes in API potency and release were from the medication's exposure to the harsh environmental conditions of spaceflight. Subsequent review of the spaceflight environmental control records from the time of these studies indicated that temperature and humidity levels aboard all spacecraft remained within United States Pharmacopeia (USP) recommended ranges to maintain optimal pharmaceutical stability. Therefore, space radiation was presumed to be the source of observed drug degradation. The Pharmacotherapeutics Discipline conducted a ground analog radiation experiment in 2006 at the NASA Space Radiation Laboratory (NSRL) at Brookhaven to validate this theory and to characterize the effects of high-energy radioactive particles on pharmaceutical stability. These data were never published. Recently, the Exploration Medical Capability (ExMC) Element finalized a research plan (RP) aimed at providing a safe and effective medication formulary for exploration spaceflight. As ExMC begins to design new flight and ground analog radiation studies, further analysis of the 2006 NSRL study data is essential for the characterization of the impact of radiation on medication potency and efficacy in the exploration spaceflight environment.

Radar - 449MHz - North Bend, OR (OTH) - Reviewed Data

**Winds.** A radar wind profiler measures the Doppler shift of electromagnetic energy scattered back from atmospheric turbulence and hydrometeors along 3-5 vertical and off-vertical point beam directions. Back-scattered signal strength and radial-component velocities are remotely sensed along all beam directions and are combined to derive the horizontal wind field over the radar. These data typically are sampled and averaged hourly and usually have 6-m and/or 100-m vertical resolutions up to 4 km for the 915 MHz and 8 km for the 449 MHz systems. **Temperature.** To measure atmospheric temperature, a radio acoustic sounding system (RASS) is used in conjunction with the wind profile. These data typically are sampled and averaged for five minutes each hour and have a 60-m vertical resolution up to 1.5 km for the 915 MHz and 60 m up to 3.5 km for the 449 MHz. **Moments and Spectra.** The raw spectra and moments data are available for all dwells along each beam and are stored in daily files. For each day, there are files labeled "header" and "data." These files are generated by the radar data acquisition system (LAP-XM) and are encoded in a proprietary binary format. Values of spectral density at each Doppler velocity (FFT point), as well as the radial velocity, signal-to-noise ratio, and spectra width for the selected signal peak are included in these files. Attached zip files, *449mhz-spectra-data-extraction.zip* and *449mhz-moment-data-extraction.zip*, include executables to unpack the spectra, (GetSpectra32.exe) and moments (GetMomSp32.exe), respectively. Documentation on usage and output file formats also are included in the zip files.
