Updated analyses of gluon distribution functions for the pion and kaon from the gauge-invariant nonlocal chiral quark model

In this work, we investigate the gluon distribution functions for the pion and kaon, in addition to the improved result of the valence-quark ones, in the gauge-invariant nonlocal chiral-quark model, in which the momentum dependence of the quark interactions is properly taken into account. We then analyze the gluon distribution functions, generated dynamically through the splitting functions in the Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi QCD evolution. By comparing with the recent lattice QCD results and Jefferson Lab angular momentum global analyses, it is found that the present numerical results for the gluon parton distribution functions for the pion exhibit a good agreement and the valence up-quark distribution results for the pion by reproducing the reanalyzed experimental data with a remarkable agreement. Our prediction on the gluon distribution functions for the kaon is also consistent with the recent lattice data for the kaon within the errors. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Origin of gauge invariance in string theory

A first quantization of the space-time embedding Chi exp mu and the world-sheet metric rho of the open bosonic string. The world-sheet metric rho decouples from S-matrix elements in 26 dimensions. This formulation of the theory naturally includes 26-dimensional gauge transformations. The gauge invariance of S-matrix elements is a direct consequence of the decoupling of rho. Second quantization leads to a string field Phi(Chi exp mu, rho) with a gauge-covariant equation of motion.

Revisiting gauge invariance and Reggeization of pion exchange

The Reggeized pion is expected to provide the main contribution to the forward cross section in light meson photoproduction reactions with charge exchange at high energies. We discuss the Reggeization of pion exchange in charged pion photoproduction with an emphasis on consistency with current conservation. We show that the gauge-invariant amplitude for the exchange of a particle with a generic even spin J ≥ 2 in the t channel is analytic at J = 0 and that it can be interpreted in terms of the nucleon electric current. This enables us to reconcile the dynamics in the s and u channel, which involves also nucleon exchanges, with the amplitude expressed in terms of t -channel partial waves, as required by Regge theory. Gauge-invariant TMD factorization for Drell-Yan hadronic tensor at small x

The Drell-Yan hadronic tensor for electromagnetic (EM) current in the Sudakov region s?Q2?q2? is obtained with 1Q2 accuracy. In the leading order in Nc the higher-twist quark-quark-gluon TMDs reduce to leading-twist TMDs due to QCD equation of motion. The resulting tensor for unpolarized hadrons is EM gauge-invariant and depends on two leading-twist TMDs: f1 responsible for total DY cross section, and Boer-Mulders function h?1. The order-of-magnitude estimates of angular distributions for DY process seem to agree with LHC results at corresponding kinematics.

Gauge-invariant TMD factorization for Drell-Yan hadronic tensor at small $\mathcal{x}$

The Drell-Yan hadronic tensor for electromagnetic (EM) current is calculated in the Sudakov region $s\gg Q^2 \gg q^2_⊥$ with $\frac{1}{Q^2}$ accuracy, first at the tree level and then with the double-log accuracy. It is demonstrated that in the leading order in $N_c$ the higher-twist quark-quark-gluon TMDs reduce to leading-twist TMDs due to QCD equation of motion. The resulting tensor for unpolarized hadrons is EM gauge-invariant and depends on two leading-twist TMDs: $f_1$ responsible for total DY cross section, and Boer-Mulders function $h\frac{⊥}{1}$. The order-of-magnitude estimates of angular distributions for DY process seem to agree with LHC results at corresponding kinematics.

Discovering exact, gauge-invariant, local energy-momentum conservation laws for the electromagnetic gyrokinetic system by high-order field theory on heterogeneous manifolds

Gyrokinetic theory is arguably the most important tool for numerical studies of transport physics in magnetized plasmas. However, exact local energy-momentum conservation laws for the electromagnetic gyrokinetic system have not been found despite the continuous effort. Without such local conservation laws, energy and momentum can be instantaneously transported across spacetime, which is unphysical and casts doubt on the validity of numerical simulations based on the gyrokinetic theory. The standard Noether procedure for deriving conservation laws from corresponding symmetries does not apply to gyrokinetic systems because the gyrocenters and electromagnetic fields reside on different manifolds. To overcome this difficulty, we develop a high-order field theory on heterogeneous manifolds for classical particle-field systems and apply it to derive exact, local conservation laws, in particular the energy-momentum conservation laws, for the electromagnetic gyrokinetic system. A weak Euler-Lagrange equation is established to replace the standard Euler-Lagrange equation for the particles. It is discovered that an induced weak Euler-Lagrange current enters the local conservation laws. And it is the new physics captured by the high-order field theory on heterogeneous manifolds. A recently developed gauge-symmetrization method for high-order electromagnetic field theories using the electromagnetic displacement-potential tensor is applied to render the derived energy-momentum conservation laws electromagnetic gauge-invariant.
