Improved thermal treatment of aluminum alloy 7075

Newly developed tempering treatment considerably increases the corrosion resistance of 7075-T6 alloy and concomitantly preserves its yield strength. The results of tests on samples of the alloy subjected to the above treatments show that when the overaging period is 12 hours /at 325 degrees F/, the alloy exhibits a yield strength of 73,000 psi.

Study of fluoride corrosion of nickel alloys

Report contains the results of an investigation of the corrosion resistance of nickel and nickel alloys exposed to fluorine, uranium hexafluoride, and volatile fission product fluorides at high temperatures. Survey of the unclassified literature on the subject is included.

Improved pH buffering agent for sodium hypochlorite

Sodium citrate/citric acid was found to be an effective buffer for pH control when used with sodium hypochlorite. The mixture does not corrode aluminum. The buffer appears to form a type of conversion coating that may provide corrosion-resistant properties to aluminum in other applications.

Advances in aluminum anodizing

White anodize is applied to aluminum alloy surfaces by specific surface preparation, anodizing, pigmentation, and sealing techniques. The development techniques resulted in alloys, which are used in space vehicles, with good reflectance values and excellent corrosive resistance.

Economical weatherproof helical antenna

Semi-rigid coaxial cable forms the helical element of antennas. Antennas are inexpensive, corrosion resistant, require minimum maintenance, and can be easily transported and assembled.

Efficient pressure-transformer for fluids

Fluid transformer utilizes fluid under pressure at one level to drive series of free pistons in positive displacement pump. Pump in turn delivers hydraulic fluid at different pressure level to a load. Transformer is constructed of corrosion resistant materials and is extremely light and compact in relation to capacity.

Preparation of perfluoropolyether prepolymers

Fluorinated prepolymers are used to generate highly fluorinated polymers which possess most of the desirable properties of polytetrafluoroethylene, such as nonflammability and high corrosion resistance, while retaining good low temperature flexibility.

Rochow, S. E.↗

Preparation of highly fluorinated polyurethanes

New polyurethanes, formed from a reaction of a prepolymer diol and a perfluorinated diisocyanate, are nonflammable and possess high corrosion resistance and good low temperature flexibility. Polymer hardness increases rapidly with increasing ratio of diisocaynate to diol, but its glass transition temperature is not adversely affected.

Ceramic backup ring prevents undesirable weld-metal buildup

Removable ceramic backup material butted against weld zone back prevents weld metal buildup at that site. Method is successful with manual tungsten-inert gas /TIG/ welding of 316 corrosion resistant steel /CRES/ pieces with 0.76 cm throat diameter and 1.57 cm pipe internal diameter.
