Parameter estimation for incidence angle modifier models for photovoltaic modules

We present methods to estimate parameters for models for the incidence angle modifier for simulating irradiance on a photovoltaic array. The incidence angle modifier quantifies the fraction of direct irradiance that is reflected away at the array’s face, as a function of the direct irradiance’s angle of incidence. Parameters can be estimated from data and the fitting method can be used to convert between models. We show that the model conversion procedure results in models that produce similar annual insolation on a fixed plane.

Automated Sorghum Phenotyping and Trait Development Platform

There is an urgent need to accelerate energy crop development for the production of renewable transportation fuels from biomass. Our interdisciplinary team developed mobile, ground-based and aerial phenotyping platforms and advanced remote sensing data analysis tools to acquire and process imagery from different types of cameras (e.g. RGB, multispectral, hyperspectral, and thermal sensors) and LiDAR point cloud data in large-scale sorghum field trials during phase 1 of the project. Phase 2 focused on Technology to Market activities to deliver these systems to the market place coupled with targeted research programs to address specific limitations or challenges for these systems.

Customer-Focused Key Performance Indicators for Electric Vehicle Charging

To systematically improve the public charging experience, EV charging industry stakeholders need to define and measure it precisely. Many stakeholders currently measure aspects of the charging experience, but they typically employ metrics that are either operational in nature, such as charger uptime and mean time between failures, or composite customer satisfaction indices. To improve the customer experience most effectively, the industry needs metrics that define the charging experience from the perspective of the customer, not business operations. Furthermore, industry practitioners need granular metrics to know what specific aspects of the charging experience need improvement. This report defines such customer-focused metrics, called key performance indicators (KPIs).

User Stories for PV Operations and Maintenance: Findings from the 2024 PVPMC Workshop

At the 2024 Photovoltaic (PV) Performance Modeling Workshop we collected user stories related to PV system monitoring, analytics, and operations and maintenance (O&M). In this context, user stories describe challenges with current practices and tools or imagining opportunities for improvements. From these user stories, we identified several near-term opportunities to improve photovoltaic system monitoring, analytics and O&M.
