Threshold photoproduction of η c and η b using holographic QCD

We discuss the possibility that threshold photoproduction of η c , b may be sensitive to the pseudovector 1 + − glueball exchange. We use the holographic construction to identify the pseudovector glueball with the Kalb-Ramond field, minimally coupled to bulk Dirac fermions. We derive the holographic C-odd form factor and its respective charge radius. Using the pertinent Witten diagrams, we derive and analyze the differential photoproduction cross section for η c , b in the threshold regime, including the interference from the dual bulk photon exchange with manifest vector dominance. The possibility of measuring this process at current and future electron facilities is discussed. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Top Yukawa coupling measurement at the muon collider

We have presented a detailed study about the prospects for the measurement of the top Yukawa coupling in the vector boson fusion production of a top quark pair at high energy muon colliders. By employing the effective W approximation and the high energy limit for the helicity amplitudes of the subprocess W + W − → t t ¯ , we have derived the energy scaling of the statistical signal significance in the presence of the anomalous couplings by focusing on the interference term only. The sensitivity on the top Yukawa coupling decreases as the bin energy increases. For the anomalous triple gauge boson couplings and the gauge-boson-fermion couplings with E 2 energy growing behavior, the signal significance has mild increase at the beginning and starts to decrease for s ^ t t ¯ ∼ 0.2 s μ + μ − . The 95% CL on the anomalous top Yukawa coupling is projected to be 5.6% (1.7%) at a 10 (30) TeV muon collider, which is comparable to the sensitivity of 2% at the 100 TeV collider. Accessing the gluon GTMD F 1 , 4 in exclusive π 0 production in e p collisions

We demonstrate that the longitudinal single target-spin asymmetry in exclusive π 0 production in e p collisions can give access to the imaginary part of the gluon generalized transverse momentum distribution (GTMD) F 1 , 4 . Such a longitudinal spin asymmetry that results from the Coulomb-nuclear interference effect, leads to a characteristic azimuthal angular correlation of sin 2 ϕ , where ϕ is the azimuthal angle between the scattered lepton transverse momentum and the recoil proton’s transverse momentum. We also present a numerical estimate of the asymmetry for the kinematics accessible at EIC and EicC. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Nonresonant central exclusive production of charged-hadron pairs in proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV

The central exclusive production of charged-hadron pairs in p p collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV is examined, based on data collected in a special high- β * run of the LHC. The nonresonant continuum processes are studied with the invariant mass of the centrally produced two-pion system in the resonance-free region, m π + π − < 0.7 or m π + π − > 1.8 GeV . Differential cross sections as functions of the azimuthal angle between the surviving protons, squared exchanged four-momenta, and m π + π − are measured in a wide region of scattered proton transverse momenta, between 0.2 and 0.8 GeV, and for pion rapidities | y | < 2 . A rich structure of interactions related to double-pomeron exchange is observed. A parabolic minimum in the distribution of the two-proton azimuthal angle is observed for the first time. It can be interpreted as an effect of additional pomeron exchanges between the protons from the interference between the bare and the rescattered amplitudes. After model tuning, various physical quantities are determined that are related to the pomeron cross section, proton-pomeron and meson-pomeron form factors, pomeron trajectory and intercept, and coefficients of diffractive eigenstates of the proton. © 2024 CERN, for the CMS and TOTEMs Collaboration 2024 CERN

Poles and poltergeists in e + e − → D D ¯ data

A recent report of e + e − → D D ¯ events by the BESIII collaboration suggests the presence of a structure R at 3900 MeV. We argue that this structure, called G ( 3900 ) in the past, is not in fact due to a new c c ¯ resonance but rather naturally emerges due to a combination of interference between nearby resonances and the opening of the D * D ¯ channel. We further find that the appearance of this structure does not require suppression because of a radial node in the ψ ( 4040 ) wave function, although a node improves fit quality. The measured e + e − coupling of ψ ( 4040 ) is found to be substantially smaller than previously estimated. In addition, we report new corrections to the measured cross section σ ( e + e − → D D ¯ ) at energies near ψ ( 3770 ) . Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Evidence of the singly Cabibbo suppressed decay Λ c + → p π 0

Evidence for the singly Cabibbo suppressed decay Λ c + → p π 0 is reported for the first time with a statistical significance of 3.7 σ based on 6.0 fb − 1 of e + e − collision data collected at center-of-mass energies between 4.600 and 4.843 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The absolute branching fraction of Λ c + → p π 0 is measured to be ( 1.5 6 − 0.58 + 0.72 ± 0.20 ) × 10 − 4 . Combining with the branching fraction of Λ c + → n π + , ( 6.6 ± 1.3 ) × 10 − 4 , the ratio of the branching fractions of Λ c + → n π + and Λ c + → p π 0 is calculated to be 3.2 − 1.2 + 2.2 . As an important input for the theoretical models describing the decay mechanisms of charmed baryons, our result indicates that the nonfactorizable contributions play an essential role and their interference with the factorizable contributions should not be significant. In addition, the absolute branching fraction of Λ c + → p η is measured to be ( 1.63 ± 0.3 1 stat ± 0.1 1 syst ) × 10 − 3 . Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Event generator for jet tomography in electron-ion collisions

We develop the first event generator, the electron-heavy-ion-jet-interaction-generator (eHIJING), for the jet tomography study of electron-ion collisions. In this generator, energetic jet partons produced from the initial hard scattering undergo multiple collisions with the nuclear target. The collision rate is proportional to the transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) gluon density in the nucleus, which is given by a simple model inspired by the physics of gluon saturation. Medium-modified QCD splitting functions within the higher-twist (HT) and generalized higher-twist (GHT) frameworks are utilized to simulate parton showering in the nuclear medium that takes into account the non-Abelian Landau-Pomeranchuck-Midgal interference effect. Employing eHIJING, we revisit hadron production in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) as measured by EMC, HERMES, and recent CLAS experiments. eHIJING with both GT and GHT frameworks gives reasonably good descriptions of these experimental data. Predictions for experiments at the future electron-ion colliders are also provided. It is demonstrated that future measurements of the transverse momentum broadening of single hadron spectra can be used to map out the two-dimensional kinematic (Q 2 , x B ) dependence of the jet transport coefficient $\hat{q}$ in cold nuclear matter.

Measurement of the branching fraction of ψ ( 2 S ) → γ π 0

Based on ( 2712.4 ± 14.1 ) × 10 6 ψ ( 2 S ) events, 7.9 fb − 1 ψ ( 3773 ) data, and 0.8 fb − 1 off-resonance data samples collected with the BESIII detector, we measure the branching fraction of ψ ( 2 S ) → γ π 0 and e + e − → γ π 0 form factor at momentum transfers Q 2 ∼ 13 GeV 2 . The e + e − → γ π 0 cross section is fitted with considering the interference between the ψ ( 2 S ) and continuum amplitudes and two solutions are found, B = 3.74 × 10 − 7 with ϕ = 3.93 rad and B = 7.87 × 10 − 7 with ϕ = 2.08 rad . Here, B is the branching fraction of ψ ( 2 S ) → γ π 0 and ϕ is the relative phase angle between the ψ ( 2 S ) and continuum amplitudes. Due to insufficient off-resonance data, the branching fraction B ( ψ ( 2 S ) → γ π 0 ) is determined to be in the range [ 2.7 , 9.7 ] × 10 − 7 within 1 standard deviation of the contour region. Transverse spin asymmetries and the electron Yukawa coupling at an FCC-ee

We show that measurements of single transverse-spin asymmetries at an 𝑒 + ⁢𝑒 − collider can enhance the sensitivity to the electron Yukawa coupling, possibly enabling observation of the Standard Model value for this quantity. We demonstrate that the significance in both the 𝑏⁢$\overline{𝑏}$ and semileptonic 𝑊⁢𝑊 final states can be enhanced by factors of up to 3 compared to inclusive cross-section determinations of this coupling for transversely polarized electrons. If the positrons can be simultaneously longitudinally polarized, even at the level of 30%, the significance can be enhanced by a factor of 5 or more. The method utilizes quantum interference between the Higgs signal and the continuum background and is also applicable in other 𝑊⁢𝑊 and 𝑍⁢𝑍 final states.

Jet quenching in the glasma phase: Medium-induced radiation

Inspired by the recent considerations of parton momentum broadening in the glasma phase, we study the medium-induced soft gluon radiation of jet partons at early times in heavy-ion collisions. The glasma state is assumed to be comprised of independent color domains with homogenous longitudinal fields that vary event by event, and we further complete this model with an event-averaging procedure accounting for the finite correlation length. Using this description, we evaluate the rate of medium-induced radiation from an energetic parton at midrapidity in the glasma phase. We mainly focus on SU(2) color fields for simplicity, also referring to the U(1) case and comparing with the Baier, Dokshitzer, Mueller, Peigné, Schiff, and Zakharov rate to gain further insight. Our results show that there is an intricate interplay of the synchrotron-like radiation in a single color domain with the destructive interference between different color domains, after the medium averaging is performed. Thus, we find that the emission rate is sensitive to the matter structure, decreasing for a glasma state populated by smaller color domains—i.e., for a glasma with a larger characteristic saturation scale. Our approach can be applied to more realistic backgrounds, and it sets the stage for the modeling of jet evolution in the early stages of heavy-ion collisions.

Building the case for forward muon detection at a muon collider

We survey the opportunities offered by the detection of the forward muons that accompany the creation of neutral effective vector bosons at a muon collider, in different kinematic regimes. Vectors with relatively low energy produce the Higgs boson and the extended muon angular coverage enables studies of the Higgs properties, such as the measurement of the inclusive production cross section and the branching ratio to invisible final states. New heavy particles could be produced by vectors of higher energy, through Higgs portal interactions. If the new particles are invisible, the detection of the forward muons is essential in order to search for this scenario. The angular correlations of the forward muons are sensitive to the quantum interference between the vector-boson helicity amplitudes and can be exploited for the characterization of vector-boson scattering and fusion processes. This is illustrated by analyzing the C P properties of the Higgs coupling to the Z boson. Our findings provide a physics case and a set of benchmarks for the design of a dedicated forward muon detector. Published by the American Physical Society 2025

Intrinsic charm and the 𝐷 + − 𝐷 − asymmetry produced in proton-proton collisions

We investigate the contribution of the charm-anticharm (𝑐⁢$\overline{𝑐}$) asymmetry of the proton eigenstate obtained from QCD lattice gauge to the asymmetry of 𝐷 + , 𝐷 − and 𝐷 0 , $\overline{𝐷}$ 0 mesons produced in 𝑝⁢𝑝 collisions at large Feynman variables 𝑥. It is shown that an important tool for establishing the intrinsic charm (IC) content of the proton is the charm hadron-antihadron asymmetry formed in 𝑝⁢𝑝 collisions. Predictions for the asymmetry as a function of 𝑥 for different IC probabilities are presented. We show that the interference of the intrinsic |𝑢⁢𝑢⁢𝑑⁢𝑐⁢$\overline{𝑐}$⟩ Fock state with the standard contribution from the perturbative QCD evolution leads to a large 𝐷 + ⁢𝐷 − asymmetry at large Feynman 𝑥.

Study of light-meson resonances decaying to K S 0 K π in the B → ( K S 0 K π ) K channels

A study is presented of B + → K S 0 K − π + K + and B + → K S 0 K + π − K + decays based on the analysis of proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb − 1 . The K S 0 K π invariant-mass distributions of both B + decay modes show, in the m ( K S 0 K π ) < 1.85 GeV mass region, large activity which is resolved using an amplitude analysis. A simple model, where J P C amplitudes are described by multiple Breit-Wigner functions with appropriate angular distributions, provides a good description of the experimental data. In this approach a complex mixture of J P C = 0 − + , 1 + + and 1 + − amplitudes is observed that is dominated by η ( 1405 ) , η ( 1470 ) , η ( 1760 ) , f 1 ( 1285 ) , f 1 ( 1420 ) and h 1 ( 1405 ) resonances. The K S 0 K π Dalitz plots are dominated by asymmetric crossing K * K ¯ bands which are different for the two B + decay modes. This is due to a different interference pattern between the 1 + + and 1 + − amplitudes in the two channels. Branching fractions are measured for each resonant contribution. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration 2025 CERN

Unified and optimal frame choice for generalized parton distributions

Reconstructing the internal three-dimensional quark and gluon structures of hadrons through generalized parton distributions (GPDs) from hard exclusive scattering processes is one of the most challenging tasks in nuclear and particle physics. In this paper, we introduce a new optimized reference frame that, for the first time, enables a unified view of all the reactions sensitive to GPDs and facilitates the interpretation of a variety of phase-space patterns that were previously hardly accessible and interpretable. Similarly to how the heliocentric description advanced our understanding of the solar system and gravitation, our new frame centers around a quasireal state, allows for a consistent separation of physical scales, and reveals a novel quantum interference mechanism. Photoproduction of K + K − Pairs in Ultraperipheral Collisions

K + K − pairs may be produced in photonuclear collisions, either from the decays of photoproduced ϕ ( 1020 ) mesons or directly as nonresonant K + K − pairs. Measurements of K + K − photoproduction probe the couplings between the ϕ ( 1020 ) and charged kaons with photons and nuclear targets. The kaon-proton scattering occurs at energies far above those available elsewhere. We present the first measurement of coherent photoproduction of K + K − pairs on lead ions in ultraperipheral collisions using the ALICE detector, including the first investigation of direct K + K − production. There is significant K + K − production at low transverse momentum, consistent with coherent photoproduction on lead targets. In the mass range 1.1 < M K K < 1.4 GeV / c 2 above the ϕ ( 1020 ) resonance, for rapidity | y K K | < 0.8 and p T , K K < 0.1 GeV / c , the measured coherent photoproduction cross section is d σ / d y = 3.37 ± 0.61 ( stat ) ± 0.15 ( syst ) mb . The center-of-mass energy per nucleon of the photon-nucleus (Pb) system W γ Pb , n ranges from 33 to 188 GeV, far higher than previous measurements on heavy-nucleus targets. The cross section is larger than expected for ϕ ( 1020 ) photoproduction alone. The mass spectrum is fit to a cocktail consisting of ϕ ( 1020 ) decays, direct K + K − photoproduction, and interference between the two. The confidence regions for the amplitude and relative phase angle for direct K + K − photoproduction are presented. © 2024 CERN, for the ALICE Collaboration 2024 CERN

Algebraic Hastatic Order in One-Dimensional Two-Channel Kondo Lattice

The two-channel Kondo lattice likely hosts a rich array of phases, including hastatic order, a channel symmetry breaking heavy Fermi liquid. In this work, we revisit its one-dimensional phase diagram using density matrix renormalization group and, in contrast to previous work, find algebraic hastatic orders generically for stronger couplings. These are heavy Tomonaga-Luttinger liquids with nonanalyticities at Fermi vectors captured by hastatic density waves. We also find a predicted additional nonlocal order parameter due to interference between hastatic spinors, not present at large N, and residual repulsive interactions at strong coupling suggesting non-Fermi-liquid physics in higher dimensions.

Persistence of Spin Coherence in a Crystalline Environment

Here, we analyze quantum interference in the triplet-exciton pair generated by singlet exciton fission in a molecular crystal and introduce transport-induced dephasing (TID) as a key effect that can suppress the expected fluorescence quantum beats when the triplet-exciton wave function can localize on inequivalent sites. TID depends on the triplet-exciton hopping rate between inequivalent sites and on the energy shifts among the stationary states of the entangled triplet pair in different spatial configurations. The theoretical model is confirmed by experiments in rubrene single crystals, where triplet pairs remain entangled for more than 50 ns but quantum beats are suppressed by TID within a few nanoseconds when the magnetic field is misaligned by just a few degrees from specific symmetric directions. Our experiments deliver the zero-field parameters for the rubrene molecule in its orthorhombic lattice and information on triplet-exciton transport, in particular, the triplet-exciton hopping rate between inequivalent sites, which we evaluate to be of the order of 150 ps in rubrene.

Correspondence between Color Glass Condensate and High-Twist Formalism

The color glass condensate (CGC) effective theory and the collinear factorization at high twist (HT) are two well-known frameworks describing perturbative QCD multiple scatterings in nuclear media. It has long been recognized that these two formalisms have their own domain of validity in different kinematic regions. Taking direct photon production in proton-nucleus collisions as an example, we clarify for the first time the relation between CGC and HT at the level of a physical observable. We show that the CGC formalism beyond shock-wave approximation, and with the Landau-Pomeranchuk-Migdal interference effect is consistent with the HT formalism in the transition region where they overlap. Such a unified picture paves the way for mapping out the phase diagram of parton density in nuclear medium from dilute to dense region.
