Methodologies for optimal resource allocation to the national space program and new space utilizations. Volume 2: Resource allocation and smoothing model, programmer's manual

Appendixes are presented that provide model input requirements, a sample case, flow charts, and a program listing. At the beginning of each appendix, descriptive details and technical comments are provided to indicate any special instructions applicable to the use of that appendix. In addition, the program listing includes comment cards that state the purpose of each subroutine in the complete program and describe operations performed within that subroutine. The input requirements includes details on the many options that adapt the program to the specific needs of the analyst for a particular problem.

Improved scaling laws for stage inert mass space Propulsion systems. Volume 3: Propulsion synthesis program users and programmers manual

The analytical models developed for the Space Propulsion Automated Synthesis Modeling (SPASM) program are presented. Weight scaling laws developed during this study are incorporated into the program's scaling data bank. A detail listing, logic diagram and input/output formats are supplied for the SPASM program. Two test examples for one to four-stage vehicles performing different types of missions are shown to demonstrate the program's capability and versatility.

Shuttle operations simulation model programmers'/users' manual

The prospective user of the shuttle operations simulation (SOS) model is given sufficient information to enable him to perform simulation studies of the space shuttle launch-to-launch operations cycle. The procedures used for modifying the SOS model to meet user requirements are described. The various control card sequences required to execute the SOS model are given. The report is written for users with varying computer simulation experience. A description of the components of the SOS model is included that presents both an explanation of the logic involved in the simulation of the shuttle operations cycle and a description of the routines used to support the actual simulation.

Porter, D. G.

A real time programmable data compression system for video data.

Description of the implementation of a data compression system for the real-time operational transmission (through microwave links) of ATS satellite pictures between the command and data acquisition station and a central location for computer processing. The system features the use of general-purpose minicomputers for encoding and decoding; this makes it possible to vary the employed data compression technique and to make simultaneous statistical calculations on the data. Data compression and expansion is accomplished in a manner that does not lower data quality.

The NASA Quiet Engine Programme.

Discussion of the experimental Quiet Engine developed under the NASA program to reduce jet aircraft noise levels. The current status of the program is given as follows: Aerodynamic evaluation of the three fans is complete and their acoustic evaluation is partially complete. Tests of fan casing boundary-layer section and of serrated leading edges on the half-scale B fan are complete and are underway on the half-scale C fan. Tests of the first engine with the A fan began in August 1971.

Inexpensive programmable computer clock

Clock's computer interface accepts pulses from computer (computer commands) and translates them into control signals for clock, and vice versa. Clock is preset by computer to a fixed number of time pulses, and then started. After fixed number of time pulses has occured, clock reads pulse (via interface) to computer and stops.

Vrancik, J. E.

Programmable random interval generator

Random pulse generator can supply constant-amplitude randomly distributed pulses with average rate ranging from a few counts per second to more than one million counts per second. Generator requires no high-voltage power supply or any special thermal cooling apparatus. Device is uniquely versatile and provides wide dynamic range of operation.

DORCA 2 computer program. Volume 2: Programmer's manual

A guide for coding the Dynamic Operational Requirements and Cost Analysis Program (DORCA 2) is presented. The manual provides a detailed operation of every subroutine, the layout in core of the major matrices and arrays, and the meaning of all program values. Flow charts are included.

Gold, B. J.

The Thailand programme of Earth Resources Technology Satellite

The author has identified the following significant results. Multispectral scanner image quality is considered excellent. It is immediately apparent that details of the coastline, water courses, and many other features readily apparent in the imagery will permit important updating and correction of available maps of Thailand.

Cheosakul, P.

A programmable computer interface for CAMAC

An interface has been developed for CAMAC instrumentation systems that implements data transfers controlled either by the computer CPU or by an autonomous (data-channel) processor in the interface unit. The data channel processor executes programs stored in the computer memory. These programs consist of standard CAMAC module commands plus special control characters and commands for the processor itself. The interface was built for the PDP-15 computer, which has an 18-bit word structure, but both 18- and 24-bit data transfers can be made. A software system has been written that exploits the many features of the processor.

Bercaw, R. W.

Thailand national programme of the Earth Resources Technology Satellite

The author has identified the following significant results. ERTS-1 data has been used to delineate floating rice regions with a clear distinction between irrigated and nonirrigated areas and recognition of orchard and horitcultural crops. Alluvial fans marking the ancient river outlets in the northwestern portion of the Central Plain of Thailand and the shape and size of the flood plains in the central region have been identified and outlined. A new forestry map was constructed using band 5 and band 7 imagery combined with ground observations. A geologic map of Thailand has been constructed from ERTS imagery.

Shuttle cryogenic supply system. Optimization study. Volume 5 B-1: Programmers manual for math models

A computer program for rapid parametric evaluation of various types of cryogenics spacecraft systems is presented. The mathematical techniques of the program provide the capability for in-depth analysis combined with rapid problem solution for the production of a large quantity of soundly based trade-study data. The program requires a large data bank capable of providing characteristics performance data for a wide variety of component assemblies used in cryogenic systems. The program data requirements are divided into: (1) the semipermanent data tables and source data for performance characteristics and (2) the variable input data which contains input parameters which may be perturbated for parametric system studies.

Shuttle cryogenics supply system. Optimization study. Volume 5 B-4: Programmers manual for space shuttle orbit injection analysis (SOPSA)

A computer program for space shuttle orbit injection propulsion system analysis (SOPSA) is described to show the operational characteristics and the computer system requirements. The program was developed as an analytical tool to aid in the preliminary design of propellant feed systems for the space shuttle orbiter main engines. The primary purpose of the program is to evaluate the propellant tank ullage pressure requirements imposed by the need to accelerate propellants rapidly during the engine start sequence. The SOPSA program will generate parametric feed system pressure histories and weight data for a range of nominal feedline sizes.
