Fault Tolerant Decoding of QLDPC-GKP Codes with Circuit Level Soft Information

Concatenated bosonic-stabilizer codes have recently gained prominence as promising candidates for achieving low-overhead fault-tolerant quantum computing in the long term. In such systems, analog information obtained from the syndrome measurements of an inner bosonic code is used to inform decoding for an outer code layer consisting of a discrete-variable stabilizer code such as a surface code. The use of Quantum Low-Density Parity Check (QLDPC) codes as an outer code is of particular interest due to the significantly higher encoding rates offered by these code families, leading to a further reduction in overhead for large-scale quantum computing. Recent works have investigated the performance of QLDPC-GKP codes in detail, and the use of analog information from the inner code significantly boosts decoder performance. However, the noise models assumed in these works are typically limited to depolarizing or phenomenological noise. In this paper, we investigate the performance of QLDPC-GKP concatenated codes under circuit-level noise, based on a model introduced by Noh et al. in the context of the surface-GKP code. To demonstrate the performance boost from analog information, we investigate three scenarios: (a) decoding without soft information, (b) decoding with precomputed error probabilities but without real-time soft information, and (c) decoding with real-time soft information obtained from round-to-round decoding of the inner GKP code. Results show minimal improvement between (a) and (b), but a significant boost in (c), indicating that real-time soft information is critical for concatenated decoding under circuit-level noise. We also study the effect of measurement schedules with varying depths and show that using a schedule with minimum depth is essential for obtaining reliable soft information from the inner code.

The Roper Resonance and Kin

The properties of the Roper resonance N(1440) 1/ 2 + are reviewed. Quark models have long struggled to reproduce its mass relative to its negative parity partner N(1535) 1/ 2 − . This discrepancy motivated interpretations of the Roper as a dynamically generated meson–baryon state. Including its isospin partners ∆(1600) 3/ 2 + and ∆(1700) 3/ 2 − further accentuates the tension between quark-model predictions and experiment. Recent develop ments based on AdS/QCD and functional methods achieve much improved agreement, identifying the Roper as an ordinary three-quark excitation. Electroproduction experiments at Jefferson Lab have now resolved this long-standing question, revealing the Roper as a qqq core dressed by a substantial meson cloud. The Roper resonance belongs to a family of four N ∗ states with J P = 1/ 2 + ; the highest-mass member, N(2100) 1/ 2 + , likely represents a Roper-like excitation in the fourth shell.

Reggeization of the Pion Exchange in Pion Photoproduction

At high energies, the production of light mesons induced by a photon beam interacting with a nucleon target is governed by the exchange of Regge trajectories in the t-channel. In charge-exchange reactions at small momentum transfer, unnatural parity exchanges, such as pion exchange, dominate. The point-like nature of the photon–pion interaction makes the pion photoproduction reaction an excellent way to study the pion exchange mechanism. However, the nucleon Born terms are required to ensure that the scattering amplitude is gauge invariant. The gauge invariance of the pion exchange amplitude is crucial in approaching its reggeization properly. Here we discuss a novel strategy to reggeize the pion pole which considers explicitly the exchange in the t-channel of all the mesons in the pion trajectory. Each of these exchanges contributes with a pole in spin, known as a Regge pole, and we perform their summation analytically.

Development and Validation of Low-Cost, High-Reflectance Composite CSP Facets: SIPS Final Report

This work investigates the various challenges associated with developing heliostat structural composite facets using 1 mm glass mirrors. Such facets are desirable for Concentrating Solar Power because 1 mm glass mirrors provide an absolute increase in reflectivity of 2-3 % over the industry standard of 4 mm glass mirrors. Prototypes of paraboloid composite facets with 1 mm glass mirrors were constructed that have a root mean square slope error on the order of 2 mrad while achieving greater than 96% reflectivity. These facets were constructed using a low-quality aluminum mold and a bill of materials that show potential to achieve cost parity with existing 4 mm glass mirrors supported by structural steel. The facets produced were able to survive up to 50 mm hail ball impacts and were robust against accelerated environmental cycling designed to expose durability concerns. Further work is needed to develop a scalable and cost-effective manufacturing process with a similar bill of materials.

Zr-92(d,p)Zr-93 and Zr-92(d,t)Zr-91

The structures of Zr-93 and Zr-91 were studied by the stripping reaction Zr-92(d,p)Zr-93 and the pick-up reaction Zr-92(d,t)Zr-91 using 13 MeV incident deuterons. The reaction product particles were detected by counter telescope. Typical spectra from the reactions were analyzed by a nonlinear least squares peak fitting program which included a background search. Spin and parity assignments to observed excited levels were made by comparing experimental angular distributions with distorted wave Born approximation calculations.

Prototype data terminal-multiplexer/demultiplexer

The design and operation of a quad redundant data terminal and a multiplexer/demultiplexer (MDU) is described. The most unique feature is the design of the quad redundant data terminal. This is one of the few designs where the unit is fail/op, fail/op, fail/safe. Laboratory tests confirm that the unit will operate satisfactorily with the failure of three out of four channels. Although the design utilizes state-of-the-art technology, the waveform error checks, the voting techniques, and the parity bit checks are believed to be used in unique configurations. Correct word selection routines are also novel. The MDU design, while not redundant, utilizes, the latest state-of-the-art advantages of light coupler and interested amplifiers. Much of the technology employed was an evolution of prior NASA contracts related to the Addressable Time Division Data System. A good example of the earlier technology development was the development of a low level analog multiplexer, a high level analog multiplexer, and a digital multiplexer. A list of all drawings is included for reference and all schematic, block and timing diagrams are incorporated.

Polarization of gravitational synchrotron radiation.

Development of a method of analysis of gravitational polarization in terms of Stokes parameters similar to those used for the electromagnetic case. Analytical expressions for these parameters are obtained for the gravitational synchrotron radiation corresponding to the Schwarzschild black-hole model. It is shown that interference between odd- and even-parity terms makes a significant contribution to the angular dependence of the polarization.

Performance evaluation of a class of systematic, rate (M-1)/M, convolutional codes

The implementation and performance evaluation are described for a class of rate (M-1)/M, systematic, convolutional codes being decoded with a simple majority logic decoder. The encoding logic appends one parity bit for each PCM telemetry word. It is shown that over the critical range of received PCM telemetry signal-to-noise ratios, this coding procedure produces a net coding gain of from 1.5 to 2.5 db relative to an equal power transmission of uncoded PCM telemetry. Being a low-redundancy systematic code, it is possible to process this data without convolutional decoding with a small rate loss penalty of about 0.5 db.

Frequency division multiplex technique

A system for monitoring a plurality of condition responsive devices is described. It consists of a master control station and a remote station. The master control station is capable of transmitting command signals which includes a parity signal to a remote station which transmits the signals back to the command station so that such can be compared with the original signals in order to determine if there are any transmission errors. The system utilizes frequency sources which are 1.21 multiples of each other so that no linear combination of any harmonics will interfere with another frequency.

Competitive evaluation of failure detection algorithms for strapdown redundant inertial instruments.

Seven algorithms for failure detection, isolation, and correction of strapdown inertial instruments in the dodecahedron configuration are competitively evaluated by means of a digital computer simulation that provides them with identical inputs. Their performance is compared in terms of orientation errors and computer burden. The analytical foundations of the algorithms are presented. The features that are found to contribute to superior performance are use of a definite logical structure, elimination of interaction between failures, different thresholds for first and second failures, use of the 'parity' test signals, and avoidance of iteration loops.
