Reviewed are the active mechanisms relating the moon to its environment and the linkage between these mechanisms and their records in the lunar sample and geophysical data. Topics: (1) large scale plasma interactions with the moon and non-magnetic planets; (2) ancient and present day lunar surface magnetic and electric fields; (3) dynamics and evolution of the lunar atmosphere; (4) evolution of the solar plasma; (5) lunar record of solar radiations; (6) non-meteoritic and meteoritic disturbance and transport of lunar surface materials; and (7) future lunar exploration.
Bibliographic series, which is periodically updated, cites documents published since 1957 relating to practical thermal utilization of solar energy. Bibliography is indexed by author, corporate source, title, and keywords.
Bibliographic series cites documents relating to use of hydrogen as energy carrier. In addition to cumulative volume, annual supplement is available for 1974, and quarterly update program serves 1975 and current calendar year.
The Executive Information Services (EIS) system, developed as a computer-based, time-sharing tool for making and implementing management decisions, and including computer graphics capabilities, was described. The following resources are available through the EIS languages: centralized corporate/gov't data base, customized and working data bases, report writing, general computational capability, specialized routines, modeling/programming capability, and graphics. Nearly all EIS graphs can be created by a single, on-line instruction. A large number of options are available, such as selection of graphic form, line control, shading, placement on the page, multiple images on a page, control of scaling and labeling, plotting of cum data sets, optical grid lines, and stack charts. The following are examples of areas in which the EIS system may be used: research, estimating services, planning, budgeting, and performance measurement, national computer hook-up negotiations.
This bibliography lists 337 reports, articles, and other documents introduced into the NASA scientific and technical information system from January 1, 1975 through March 31, 1975.
Learning of discriminant hyperplanes in imperfectly supervised or unsupervised training sample sets with unreliably labeled samples along the fuzzy joint boundaries between sample clusters is discussed, with the discriminant hyperplane designed to be a least-squares fit to the unreliably labeled data points. (Samples along the fuzzy boundary jump back and forth from one cluster to the other in recursive cluster stabilization and are considered unreliably labeled.) Minimization of the distances of these unreliably labeled samples from the hyperplanes does not sacrifice the ability to discriminate between classes represented by reliably labeled subsets of samples. An equivalent unconstrained linear inequality problem is formulated and algorithms for its solution are indicated. Landsat earth sensing data were used in confirming the validity and computational feasibility of the approach, which should be useful in deriving discriminant hyperplanes separating clusters with fuzzy boundaries, given supervised training sample sets with unreliably labeled boundary samples.
The conference was to foster a better understanding of the volcanic history of the planets through the presentation of papers and through field trips to areas on the basalt plains of Idaho that appear to be analogous to some planetary surfaces. Papers include discussions of the volcanic geology of the Snake River Plain, general volcanic geology, and aspects of volcanism on the terrestrial planets.
