Computer program optimizes design of nuclear radiation shields

Computer program, OPEX 2, determines minimum weight, volume, or cost for shields. Program incorporates improved coding, simplified data input, spherical geometry, and an expanded output. Method is capable of altering dose-thickness relationship when a shield layer has been removed.

SNAP: A computer program for generating symbolic network functions

The computer program SNAP (symbolic network analysis program) generates symbolic network functions for networks containing R, L, and C type elements and all four types of controlled sources. The program is efficient with respect to program storage and execution time. A discussion of the basic algorithms is presented, together with user's and programmer's guides.

A computer program to automate residual gas analysis

A computer program for automatic determination of gases found in an environmental chamber during spacecraft testing is discussed. Program testing is reviewed. The program is being used for the solution of experimental spectra, where the mass spectrometer is used as a contamination monitor by an untrained spectroscopist.

Aircraft noise source and computer programs - User's guide

The application of computer programs for predicting the noise-time histories and noise contours for five types of aircraft is reported. The aircraft considered are: (1) turbojet, (2) turbofan, (3) turboprop, (4) V/STOL, and (5) helicopter. Three principle considerations incorporated in the design of the noise prediction program are core effectiveness, limited input, and variable output reporting.

Dynamic Docking Test System (DDTS) active table computer program NASA Advanced Docking System (NADS)

A computer program was developed to describe the three-dimensional motion of the Dynamic Docking Test System active table. The input consists of inertia and geometry data, actuator structural data, forcing function data, hydraulics data, servo electronics data, and integration control data. The output consists of table responses, actuator bending responses, and actuator responses.

User's Manual for Computer Program ROTOR

A detailed description of a computer program to calculate tilt-rotor aircraft dynamic characteristics is presented. This program consists of two parts: (1) the natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes of the rotor blade and wing are developed from structural data (mass distribution and stiffness distribution); and (2) the frequency response (to gust and blade pitch control inputs) and eigenvalues of the tilt-rotor dynamic system, based on the natural frequencies and mode shapes, are derived. Sample problems are included to assist the user.

WINDOW: A computer program for planning astronomical observations

A FORTRAN computer program called WINDOW was written to simplify the planning of astronomical observations of a number of objects in a limited time. The program lists the azimuths at 15 minute intervals of up to 20 objects while they are in a given range of elevation angles - the window - and gives the elevation angle of each object at its time of transit. This work was motivated by the need to use observing time efficiently on flights of NASA-Ames' Lear Jet and C-141 observatories; WINDOW permits the investigator to prepare preliminary flight plans. However, the program is suited to planning ground-based observations as well. The program and a sample flight plan are described.

Structural Sizing of the EDIN0620 Body Components Using the APAS Structural Synthesis Computer Program

The use of a structural synthesis computer program to design components for a heavy lift launch vehicle is defined. A loads program was used to determine the vehicle shears, bending moments, and axial loads at two design loading conditions. A comparison was made between results from the structures program and the results of a weight estimating program which used historical data in determining component weights.

Computer Program Re-layers Engineering Drawings

RULCHK computer program aids in structuring layers of information pertaining to part or assembly designed with software described in article "Software for Drawing Design Details Concurrently" (MFS-28444). Checks and optionally updates structure of layers for part. Enables designer to construct model and annotate its documentation without burden of manually layering part to conform to standards at design time.
