Simple circuit produces high-speed, fixed duration pulses

Circuit generates an output pulse of fixed width from a variable width input pulse. The circuit consists of a tunnel diode in parallel with an inductance driven by a constant current generator. It is used for pulsed communication equipment design.

Accuracy of laser measurements improved by pulse autocorrelator electronic system

Pulse autocorrelator electronic system discriminates between the dispersion effect of a disturbed laser signal and background noise by detecting multipath arrivals of Gaussian-shaped signal pulses. The autocorrelation function is time-dependent and can be determined by integrating the product of a received pulse and its delayed replicas.

Versatile analog pulse height computer performs real-time arithmetic operations

Multipurpose analog pulse height computer performs real-time arithmetic operations on relatively fast pulses. This computer can be used for identification of charged particles, pulse shape discrimination, division of signals from position sensitive detectors, and other on-line data reduction techniques.

A transformer of closely spaced pulsed waveforms

Passive circuit, using diodes, transistors, and magnetic cores, transforms the voltage of repetitive positive or negative pulses. It combines a pulse transformer with switching devices to effect a resonant flux reset and can transform various pulsed waveforms that have a nonzero average value and are relatively cosely spaced in time.

A continued fraction generator for smooth pulse sequences

Digital circuit produces rational output pulse rate at fraction of continuous input pulse rate. Output pulses have average rate with least possible deviation from absolute correct time spacing. Circuit uses include frequency synthesizing, fraction generation, and approximation of irrational sequences.

A 100,000 pulse height analyzer for use in High Energy Cosmic Ray Experiments (HECRE) on high altitude balloon flights

A description is given of a wide dynamic range pulse height analyzer system developed for use on High Energy Cosmic Ray Experiment (HECRE) Balloon Flights. A wide dynamic range of 100,000 is obtained by extending the range of a basic 1024 channel analyzer through the use of multiple ranges and range selection. The system described here contains four 100,000 pulse height analyzers. Each 100,000 pulse height analyzer consists of a group of cordwood welded modules mounted and interconnected on a printed circuit card. Four of these card assemblies, the required clock drive circuitry (discrete components mounted and interconnected on a separate card) and three input-output connectors are interconnected and mounted on the system board.

Middle ear muscle contractions and their relation to pulse and echo evoked potentials in the bat

An analysis is made of pulse and echo orientation cries of the Mustache Bat. That bat's cries are characterized by a long, 60 to 30 msec, pure tone component and brief beginning and terminal FM sweeps. In addition to obvious echo overlap and middle ear muscle contractions, the following are examined: (1) characteristics of pulse- and echo-evoked potential under various conditions, (2) evidence of changes in hearing sensitivity during and after pulse emission, and (3) the role of the middle ear muscles in bringing about these changes.

High pressure pulsed capillary viscometry

An analytical and test program was conducted in order to establish the feasibility of a multichamber pulsed-capillary viscometer. The initial design incorporated a piston, ram, and seals which produced measured pulses up to 30,000 psi in the closed chamber system. Pressure pulses from one to ten milliseconds were investigated in a system volume of 1 cuin. Four test fluids: a MIL-L-7808, a 5P4E polyphenyl ether, a MIL-L-23699A, and a synthetic hydrocarbon were examined in the test pressure assembly. The pressure-viscosity coefficient and viscosity delay time were determined for the MIL-L-7808 lubricant tested.

Pulsed writing of solid state holograms.

The pulsed writing of volume holograms in lithium niobate is reported, both with 200-nsec and 20-nsec duration pulses. This information is of particular interest in high capacity information storage applications since it indicates that writing times at least as short as 20-nsec are readily possible. A series of pulses was used in each case, and the diffraction efficiency was monitored using a He-Ne laser operating at 6328 A and aligned to its corresponding Bragg angle.
