Irreversible Multielement Diffusion and the Resulting Compositional and Processing Flexibility in the Synthesis and Densification of Lithium Aluminum Lanthanum Zirconium Oxide

Despite the broad interest in Al-doped lithium lanthanum zirconium oxide (LLZO), the wide range of reported ionic conductivities suggests that the effect of processing parameters on the resulting phase purity and bulk conductivity is not well-understood. Here, in this work, we synthesized six separate series of LLZO with variations in Al concentration, Li excess, Li addition order, Li source, densification method, and mother powder to determine the effect on the composition, phase purity, density, and bulk conductivity. We found that a wider range of compositions (6.08–7.61 mol of Li and 0.06–0.23 mol of Al) than previously reported can result in cubic phase stability and that nearly all elements (Li, Al, Zr, and La) are lost to the MgO crucible during calcination and sintering. The manner in which different elements are lost is affected by the processing parameters. We observed that Al-doped LLZO shows great compositional flexibility in stabilizing the cubic phase, offering an explanation for the range of electrochemical performance metrics reported in the literature.

Uniform Diffusion of Cooper Pairing Mediated by Hole Carriers in Topological Sb 2 Te 3 /Nb

Spin-helical Dirac Fermions at a doped topological insulator’s boundaries can support Majorana quasiparticles when coupled with s-wave superconductors, but in n-doped systems, the requisite induced Cooper pairing in topological states is often buried at heterointerfaces or complicated by degenerate coupling with bulk conduction carriers. Rarely probed are p-doped topological structures with nondegenerate Dirac and bulk valence bands at the Fermi level, which may foster long-range superconductivity without sacrificing Majorana physics. Using ultrahigh-resolution photoemission, we report proximity pairing with a large decay length in p-doped topological Sb 2 Te 3 on superconducting Nb. Despite no momentum-space degeneracy, the topological and bulk states of Sb 2 Te 3 /Nb exhibit the same isotropic superconducting gaps at low temperatures. Furthermore, our results unify principles for realizing accessible pairing in Dirac Fermions relevant to topological superconductivity.

WellPINN: Accurate Well Representation for Transient Fluid Pressure Diffusion in Subsurface Reservoirs With Physics‐Informed Neural Networks

Accurate representation of pumping wells is essential for reliable reservoir characterization and simulation of operational scenarios in subsurface flow models. Physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) are emerging as a promising alternative to numerical models for reservoir modeling, offering seamless integration of monitoring data and governing physical equations. However, existing PINN-based studies face major challenges in capturing fluid pressure near wells when using a source/sink term, particularly during the early stages after pumping begins. We address this problem by introducing WellPINN, a workflow in which an initially trained PINN infers fluid pressure across the entire reservoir domain using a large equivalent well radius. This initial PINN solution is then locally refined around the well by a set of subdomain PINNs that are trained for smaller equivalent well radii. Continuity across these subdomain interfaces as well as at the initial condition is ensured by hard-constraining each PINN on its subdomain boundary. Our results demonstrate WellPINN as the first workflow of its kind to focus on accurate inference of fluid pressure from pumping rates throughout the entire injection period, significantly advancing the potential of PINNs for inverse modeling and operational scenario simulations. Superionic fluoride gate dielectrics with low diffusion barrier for two-dimensional electronics

Exploration of new dielectrics with a large capacitive coupling is an essential topic in modern electronics when conventional dielectrics suffer from the leakage issue near the breakdown limit. Here, to address this looming challenge, we demonstrate that rare-earth metal fluorides with extremely low ion migration barriers can generally exhibit an excellent capacitive coupling over 20 μF cm -2 (with an equivalent oxide thickness of ~0.15 nm and a large effective dielectric constant near 30) and great compatibility with scalable device manufacturing processes. Such a static dielectric capability of superionic fluorides is exemplified by MoS 2 transistors exhibiting high on/off current ratios over 10 8 , ultralow subthreshold swing of 65 mV dec -1 and ultralow leakage current density of ~10 -6 A cm -2 . Therefore, the fluoride-gated logic inverters can achieve notably higher static voltage gain values (surpassing ~167) compared with a conventional dielectric. Furthermore, the application of fluoride gating enables the demonstration of NAND, NOR, AND and OR logic circuits with low static energy consumption. In particular, the superconductor–insulator transition at the clean-limit Bi 2 Sr 2 CaCu 2 O 8+δ can also be realized through fluoride gating. In conclusion, our findings highlight fluoride dielectrics as a pioneering platform for advanced electronic applications and for tailoring emergent electronic states in condensed matter.
