Instructional television utilization in the United States

Various aspects of utilizing instructional television (ITV) are summarized and evaluated and basic guidelines for future utilization of television as an instructional medium in education are considered. The role of technology in education, capabilities and limitations of television as an instructional media system and the state of ITV research efforts are discussed. Examples of various ongoing ITV programs are given and summarized. The problems involved in the three stages of the ITV process (production, distribution, and classroom utilization) are presented. A summary analysis outlines probable trends in future utilization.

Earth's magnetospheric processes; Proceedings of the Symposium, Cortina, Italy, August 30-September 10, 1971.

New data obtained by satellites, rockets, aircraft, and ground-based observations are interpreted in papers dealing with the magnetospheric structure and processes, particle distributions, magnetic and electric fields, plasma convection, particle acceleration and diffusion mechanisms, and substorm phenomena. Attention is given to particle populations in different magnetospheric regions, auroral particle precipitation patterns, effects of electric fields on plasma convection, VLF phenomena, a high-energy proton model for the inner radiation belt, substorm behavior of plasma sheet particles, and interpretations of magnetic field variations during substorms. Individual items are announced in this issue.

Design, development and manufacture of a breadboard radio frequency mass gauging system

The feasibility of the RF gauging mode, counting technique was demonstrated for gauging liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen under all attitude conditions. With LH2, it was also demonstrated under dynamic fluid conditions, in which the fluid assumes ever changing positions within the tank, that the RF gauging technique on the average provides a very good indication of mass. It is significant that the distribution of the mode count data at each fill level during dynamic LH2 and LOX orientation testing does approach a statistical normal distribution. Multiple space-diversity probes provide better coupling to the resonant modes than utilization of a single probe element. The variable sweep rate generator technique provides a more uniform mode versus time distribution for processing.

Lunar evolution - Is there a global radioactive crust on the moon

The paper addresses the question whether the exotic component sampled in lunar fines and as discrete rock fragments represents a moon-wide radioactive crust, or whether its source is more regional than global. It is suggested that the exotic component represents trace element enriched material from the Imbrium-Procellarum region, which was surficially deposited during Imbrium excavation and re-exposed from under the mare lavas in subsequent cratering events; surficial transport processes have distributed these materials widely over the lunar surface. There appears no need to invoke a global radioactive crust to explain the ubiquitous presence of this component in the lunar regolith.

Physical processes determining the chromospheric temperature distribution

It is demonstrated that short period acoustic waves appear adequate to heat the low chromosphere in the region just above the temperature minimum, these waves are unlikely to provide sufficient energy to heat the chromosphere above tau-5000 A(normal) less than 10 to the -6th. Calculations also show that the electron density to H density ratio from chromospheric models is too low for the H2 molecule to affect the population of H(-).
