This paper presents a new stochastic relay-based extremum-seeking controller (ESC) for multi-input-single-output (MISO) systems. The algorithm was developed with the goal of simplifying configuration to enable easier deployment to real-world problems. A solution is developed first for a static map and then adapted for a general class of dynamic systems. The number of configurable parameters is one per input channel for the static case and only one additional parameter is needed for the dynamic version. The problem of gradient identifiability is solved via the use of stochastic relay gains and a simple stability proof for the static case is presented. Simulation tests demonstrate the performance of the strategy for optimizing both static and dynamic systems.

In this study, we investigated modifications driven by 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) to the spin state configuration of [Fe(3-bpp) 2 ](TCNQ) 2 co-crystal and both spin state and electric conductivity of [Fe{H 2 B(pz) 2 } 2 (bipy)] and TCNQ mixtures. The Fe 2+ site in the [Fe(3-bpp) 2 ](TCNQ) 2 co-crystal has a sizable orbital moment. During X-ray absorption measurements, the iron ion is partially excited to the high spin state and strong surface effects are indicated. Mixing TCNQ with the [Fe{H 2 B(pz) 2 } 2 (bipy)] spin crossover complex leads to a molecular combination with increased conductivity and drift carrier lifetimes. [Fe{H 2 B(pz) 2 } 2 (bipy)] thin films with TCNQ, grown using dimethylformamide (DMF), are to great extent locked mainly in the low spin (LS) state across a broad temperature range and exhibit drift carrier lifetimes approaching 0.5 s. When deposited onto a ferroelectric polyvinylidenefluoride-hexafluoropropylene thin film substrate, [Fe{H 2 B(pz) 2 } 2 (bipy)], shows enhanced transistor carrier mobility, likely associated with the increasing cationic character of [Fe{H 2 B(pz) 2 } 2 (bipy)] thin films with TCNQ.

Understanding how 3D power distribution will be monitored throughout reactor core volumetric space in next-generation nuclear power reactors is crucial to the design, deployment, and licensing of these reactors. Although numerous techniques exist for 3D power distribution monitoring based on the response of both in situ and ex situ sensors currently implemented or proposed for use in the US reactor fleet, crucial details about these techniques are often unclear. The publicly available documentation does not include information such as how well these techniques are characterized and optimized in their implementations and the levels of uncertainty in the inferred 3D power distribution. The work described herein investigated a recently developed 3D power distribution inferencing method as applied to two next-generation reactor simulations: (1) the NuScale small modular reactor design and (2) the Westinghouse AP1000 design, both of which contain in-core strings of vanadium self-powered neutron detectors (SPNDs). This investigation considered a range of SPND string sensor densities, as well as a range of 3D power distribution axial segment sizes. In this work, SPND response simulation is informed by neutron flux calculations in representative homogenized cores. For the different sensor densities and power distribution axial segment sizes in these simulations, the average solution error, solver iterations, and run time were tracked to parameterize the sensor-core configuration.

A lithiated m-terphenyl ligand bearing fluorine atoms at the ortho positions of the flanking aryl rings was synthesized and characterized using single crystal X-ray diffraction, variable-temperature multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, and computational methods. Here, changes in 1 J C,F on coordination to lithium as a spectroscopic observable parametrizing the strength of the C–F···Li interaction are described, and a general, qualitative relationship between C–F bond lengths, Δ 1 J C,F values, and the extent of C–F bond activation as a result of Lewis acid coordination is proposed.
