Modeling Smart Microgrids for the Developing World with Probabilistic Supply and Demand Inputs

Developing world microgrids often balance insufficient supply with growing, unpredictable demand. Deterministic and probabilistic simulators exist to model these microgrids, and each focuses on different technical aspects. With the addition of smart meters into microgrids, monitoring and control is now available at high granularity, which enriches microgrid planning and operation. This research is designing a new simulator to model smart microgrids with discrete probability distributions as supply and demand inputs. In our model, smart meters allow real-time power clipping for demand side management, effectively smoothing the system load curve as needed. To compare clipping schemes for grid operation and generation mixes for planning, we aggregate inputs by convolution then compute expected energy sold and probability of avoiding power cuts. The simulator plots these values for different combinations of power clipping threshold and number of customers clipped.

Fully differential rail-to-rail output amplifier with inverter-based input pair

A fully differential rail-to-rail-output amplifier includes a differential input inverter pair, folded cascode pair, class AB control pair, and class AB output rail-to-rail pair. A drain associated with the folded cascode pair is operatively coupled to the class AB control pair, and the drain associated with the folded cascode pair is unconnected to the current source associated with the class AB control pair. A method of providing fully differential rail-to-rail-output amplification includes coupling a folded cascode pair operatively to a differential input inverter pair, coupling a drain associated with the folded cascode pair operatively to a class AB control pair, and coupling a class AB output rail-to-rail pair operatively to the class AB control pair.

RE-INTEGRATE EMT Simulation Tool: Input Data Processing Layer for Bulk Power System

This paper introduces an advanced input data processing layer for EMT simulations of large-scale bulk power systems. The paper proposes two versions of the RE-INTEGRATE EMT simulation tool, RE-INTEGRATE Gen-0 and RE-INTEGRATE Gen-1, which are developed to enhance simulation generalizability, scalability, and accuracy. The framework leverages a generic class design for components to incorporate linear equations, which are generated by discretizing the Differential-Algebraic Equations (DAEs) that represent the dynamics of the components. In addition, the framework employs a parsing algorithm that parses a power system’s raw and dyr files to generate a connectivity graph which is then traversed to form the overall system’s dynamics. The proposed input data processing layer is used to simulate the IEEE 39-bus test system. The obtained results demonstrate the framework’s capability to achieve simulation scalability and accuracy. Further, the results indicate that EMT simulations performed using the proposed automations can effectively handle complex grid configurations.

DG-IMEX Stochastic Galerkin Schemes for Linear Transport Equation with Random Inputs and Diffusive Scalings

In this paper, we consider the linear transport equation under diffusive scaling and with random inputs. The method is based on the generalized polynomial chaos approach in the stochastic Galerkin framework. Several theoretical aspects will be addressed. Additionally, a uniform numerical stability with respect to the Knudsen number ϵ, and a uniform in ϵ error estimate is given. For temporal and spatial discretizations, we apply the implicit–explicit scheme under the micro–macro decomposition framework and the discontinuous Galerkin method, as proposed in Jang et al. (SIAM J Numer Anal 52:2048–2072, 2014) for deterministic problem. Lastly, we provide a rigorous proof of the stochastic asymptotic-preserving (sAP) property. Extensive numerical experiments that validate the accuracy and sAP of the method are conducted.

Structural dynamics of the renewable energy economy: A longitudinal input-output insights for a resilient transition

As countries accelerate their energy transitions, understanding how renewable energy (RE) systems structurally integrate into national economies is essential. This study presents a longitudinal economic input-output (EIO) analysis of the renewable energy sector in South Korea from 2016 to 2022. We develop a novel EIO-based framework that disaggregates the RE sector both by energy source (thermal, hydro, nuclear and renewable) and by industrial function (manufacturing, generation, and services), allowing for a detailed assessment of production dynamics, value-added creation, and import dependency. By quantifying backward and forward linkages and induced economic effects, the analysis reveals persistent structural vulnerabilities in renewable manufacturing and increasing sectoral interdependencies. Results reveal that while the renewable energy sector's production and value-added shares have increased, critical segments remain highly import-dependent, particularly in equipment manufacturing. The analysis highlights systemic gaps in domestic supply chain resilience and offers sector-specific insights for reducing vulnerability and enhancing energy security. Although applied to South Korea as a case study, the proposed framework is designed to be transferable to other national contexts where renewable energy planning requires economic structural insights. The findings offer policy-relevant guidance for enhancing domestic energy resilience and aligning industrial strategy with long-term decarbonization goals.
