Fluid amplifier state of the art. volume i- research and development - fluid amplifiers and logic

The report surveys the current state-of-the-art of fluid amplifiers including both theoretical and practical aspects of devices having no mechanically moving parts. It is based on a complete review of the published literature (with an extensive bibliography), information obtained from 20 organizations involved in fluid amplifier development, and work performed by the General Electric Company. Specific areas covered are design techniques, both analytical and experimental; typical elements and assemblies; applications, both now in use and contemplated; fabrication techniques; and instrumentation. The report concludes that, although simple applications are now being made, the fluid amplifier field is still in the early development stage. There continues to be a basis for optimism for space applications requiring extreme environmental tolerance, long life, or the elimination of fluid system interfaces. Specialized military, and commercial applications also look promising. Work now under way should provide a better understanding of the design of devices and increase the number of useful applications.

Logic redundancy improves digital system reliability

Redundant-channel system automatically corrects any single error in a set of three binary signal channels. This system is especially applicable to digital computers where data is transmitted in parallel channels.

Logic circuit exhibits optimum performance

Performance of circuits are compared to determine the optimum circuit configuration for implementation into microelectronic functions. Comparison is made in terms of power drain, propagation time, and component variations with temperature and load.

Logic realization of simple majority voting connectives

Redundant circuitry is added to computer network to eliminate incorrect output obtained due to a component failure, noise, or some other disturbance. This circuitry provides majority operation. Only NAND gates are employed, and the modules used are among the most popular microelectronic or integrated circuits presently in use.

Efficient digital comparison technique for logic circuits

Tolerance compare technique indicates discompare only when numerical difference value exceeds prescribed limit. Algorithm involving binary number properties is defined, in lieu of arithmetic operation which requires relatively complex circuitry. Extension of algorithm may be made to encompass tolerances other than one unit.

Novel shift register eliminates logic gates and power switching circuits

Register requiring two integrated circuits per stage has nominal power dissipation of 3.5 mW per stage, its use eliminates reset pulse, allowing data transfer to occur in less than 1 microsecond, and eliminates power application to both right and left portions of the register simultaneously.

Minimal logic block encoder Patent

Encoders designed to generate comma free biorthogonal Reed-Muller type code comprising conversion of 64 6-bit words into 64 32-bit data for communication purposes

Development of beam leaded low power logic circuits

The technologies of low power TTL and beam lead processing were merged into a single product family. This family offers the power and thermal advantages of low power(54L), while providing the additional reliability advantages of beam leads. The reduction in the power and heat levels also allows the system designer to take advantage, through beam lead, multichip assemblies, of increased package density to reduce system size and weight.
