Here we continue our exploration of novel genomes discovered in module 1. We will explore different approaches for examining the genome sequence and annotation data, investigating the best approaches for answering our question: Do benthic microbes have functioning circadian clocks?
A management device includes at least one processor communicatively coupled to at least one energy resource controller controlling at least one energy resource and to at least one deferrable load controller controlling power to at least one deferrable load. The is configured to receive an indication, determined based on a frequency value of an electrical network and a nominal frequency value, that a frequency anomaly event has occurred. Responsive to receiving the indication that the frequency anomaly event has occurred, the processor is also configured to determine, for at least one of the energy resource and the deferrable load, based on the frequency value, the nominal frequency value, and a power value of the electrical network, a respective power command, and cause at least one of the at least one energy resource and the at least one deferrable load to modify operation based on the respective power command.

The invention involves producing discontinuous, flake-shaped particles of a soft magnetic material, coating the flake-shaped particles with an electrically insulating coating, and consolidating the coated flaked-shaped particles to form a soft magnetic bulk shape. The consolidated bulk shape can comprise a layer or a simple or complex 3D magnet part shape, which has a consolidated layered microstructure that includes laminated soft magnetic regions that are substantially encapsulated by an electrical insulating layer to increase the resistivity of soft magnetic material, especially when used in silicon iron magnet parts.
This presentation was prepared for the Canadian Standards Association Virtual Seminar on Hydrogen Production using Nuclear Energy, held on February 15, 2022. The presentation introduces the US DOE program on Integrated Energy Systems and provides an overview of the Light Water Reactor Sustainability projects to demonstrate hydrogen production at operating nuclear plants in the US.

We propose an intuitive, machine-learning approach to multiparameter inference, dubbed the InferoStatic Networks (ISN) method, to model the score and likelihood ratio estimators in cases when the probability density can be sampled but not computed directly. The ISN uses a backend neural network that models a scalar function called the inferostatic potential $\varphi$. In addition, we introduce new strategies, respectively called Kernel Score Estimation (KSE) and Kernel Likelihood Ratio Estimation (KLRE), to learn the score and the likelihood ratio functions from simulated data. We illustrate the new techniques with some toy examples and compare to existing approaches in the literature. We mention en passant some new loss functions that optimally incorporate latent information from simulations into the training procedure.

Case study of a DOE 2020 Housing Innovation Award winning custom home in a cold climate that got a HERS -19 with PV, with 2,538 square feet and a large south-facing roof, which is designed to hold over 80 solar panels, and the large south-facing windows, bringing in sunlight to warm the concrete floors and provide passive solar heating.
Case study of a DOE 2020 Housing Innovation Award winning custom home in a mixed-humid climate that got a HERS -2 with PV, with 2,500 square feet, featuring a novel attic truss specifically designed to accommodate a ducted mini-split heat pump tucked into an insulated chase in the vented attic. The walls are constructed of 2x6 studs installed at 24 inches on center and incorporating advanced framing techniques to reduce the amount of lumber needed and to provide more room for insulation.
Case study of a DOE 2021 Housing Innovation Award winning custom home in a marine climate that got a HERS -13 with PV, with 1,804 square feet, highly efficient construction; high-efficiency ductless minisplit heat pumps, appliances, and lighting; triple-pane windows; and 9.9 kW of solar panels on each of the monoplane roofs.
This presentation outlines the SCoRE tool, which can be used to identify the least-cost technology substitution pathway to meeting a decarbonization target within an operating region of the United States. The presentation showcases results from an application of the tool in the ERCOT operating region.

This work evaluates the life cycle environmental performance of Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) across different biomass types, processing technologies, and capture rates. Preliminary results suggest that carbon neutrality could be achieved if 35% biomass is co-fired with 90% carbon capture and sequestration.
