The Viskores User's Guide (V.1.0)

High-performance computing relies on ever finer threading. Advances in processor technology include ever greater numbers of cores, hyperthreading, accelerators with integrated blocks of cores, and special vectorized instructions, all of which require more software parallelism to achieve peak performance. Traditional visualization solutions cannot support this extreme level of concurrency. Extreme scale systems require a new programming model and a fundamental change in how we design algorithms. To address these issues we created Viskores: the visualization toolkit for multi-/many-core architectures. Viskores supports a number of algorithms and the ability to design further algorithms through a top-down design with an emphasis on extreme parallelism. Viskores also provides support for finding and building links across topologies, making it possible to perform operations that determine manifold surfaces, interpolate generated values, and find adjacencies. Although Viskores provides a simplified high-level interface for programming, its template-based code removes the overhead of abstraction.

Sierra/SD – User’s Guide for NasGen – 5.28

NasGen provides a path for migration of structural models from Nastran bulk data format (BDF) into both an Exodus mesh file and an ASCII input file for Sierra Structural Dynamics (Salinas) and Solid Mechanics (Adagio). Many tools at Sandia National Labs (SNL) use the Exodus format. This document describes capabilities and limitations of the NasGen translation software.

Sierra/SD– User’s Guide for NasGen - 5.30

NasGen provides a path for migration of structural models from NASTRAN bulk data format (BDF) into both an Exodus mesh file and an ASCII input file for Sierra Structural Dynamics (Salinas) and Solid Mechanics (Presto). Many tools at Sandia National Labs use the Exodus format. NasGen was written specifically for Salinas and Presto but should be usable with a number of these packages.

SCIP2 flight instrumentation specification for parameter identification: User's guide

SCIP2 which is a digital computer program that can be used to investigate the effects of instrumentation errors on the accuracy of aircraft stability and control derivatives identified from flight test data is presented. The program is based on the assumptions that the aircraft differential equations of motion are linear and consist of small perturbations about a quasisteady flight condition. It is also assumed that a Newton-Raphson optimization technique is used for identifying the estimates of the parameters. A summary of the equations which are coded in the program are included.

DORCA 2 computer program. Volume 1: User's guide

The Dynamic Operational Requirements and Cost Analysis Program (DORCA 2) is described. The computer program provides a top level analysis tool for NASA and relies on a man machine interaction to optimize results based on external criteria. The computer program relies heavily on outside sources to provide cost information and vehicle parameters. Given data describing mission, vehicles, payloads, containers, space facilities, schedules, cost values, and costing procedures, the program computes flight schedules, cargo manifests, vehicle fleet requirements, acquisition schedules, and cost summaries. The program is designed to consider earth orbit, lunar, interplanetary, and automated satellite missions.

DORCA computer program. Volume 1: User's guide

The Dynamic Operational Requirements and Cost Analysis Program (DORCA) was written to provide a top level analysis tool for NASA. DORCA relies on a man-machine interaction to optimize results based on external criteria. DORCA relies heavily on outside sources to provide cost information and vehicle performance parameters as the program does not determine these quantities but rather uses them. Given data describing missions, vehicles, payloads, containers, space facilities, schedules, cost values and costing procedures, the program computes flight schedules, cargo manifests, vehicle fleet requirements, acquisition schedules and cost summaries. The program is designed to consider the Earth Orbit, Lunar, Interplanetary and Automated Satellite Programs. A general outline of the capabilities of the program are provided.

Spectral analysis program. Volume 1: User's guide

The spectral analysis program (SAP) was developed to provide the Manned Spacecraft Center with the capability of computing the power spectrum of a phase or frequency modulated high frequency carrier wave. Previous power spectrum computational techniques were restricted to relatively simple modulating signals because of excessive computational time, even on a high speed digital computer. The present technique uses the recently developed extended fast Fourier transform and represents a generalized approach for simple and complex modulating signals. The present technique is especially convenient for implementation of a variety of low-pass filters for the modulating signal and bandpass filters for the modulated signal.

Aircraft noise source and computer programs - User's guide

The application of computer programs for predicting the noise-time histories and noise contours for five types of aircraft is reported. The aircraft considered are: (1) turbojet, (2) turbofan, (3) turboprop, (4) V/STOL, and (5) helicopter. Three principle considerations incorporated in the design of the noise prediction program are core effectiveness, limited input, and variable output reporting.

A user's guide to the Mariner 9 television reduced data record

The Mariner 9 television experiment used two cameras to photograph Mars from an orbiting spacecraft. For quantitative analysis of the image data transmitted to earth, the pictures were processed by digital computer to remove camera-induced distortions. The removal process was performed by the JPL Image Processing Laboratory (IPL) using calibration data measured during prelaunch testing of the cameras. The Reduced Data Record (RDR) is the set of data which results from the distortion-removal, or decalibration, process. The principal elements of the RDR are numerical data on magnetic tape and photographic data. Numerical data are the result of correcting for geometric and photometric distortions and residual-image effects. Photographic data are reproduced on negative and positive transparency films, strip contact and enlargement prints, and microfiche positive transparency film. The photographic data consist of two versions of each TV frame created by applying two special enhancement processes to the numerical data.

User's guide for a computer program to analyze the LRC 16 ft transonic dynamics tunnel cable mount system

The theoretical derivation of the set of equations is discussed which is applicable to modeling the dynamic characteristics of aeroelastically-scaled models flown on the two-cable mount system in a 16 ft transonic dynamics tunnel. The computer program provided for the analysis is also described. The program calculates model trim conditions as well as 3 DOF longitudinal and lateral/directional dynamic conditions for various flying cable and snubber cable configurations. Sample input and output are included.

Implementation and extension of the impulse transfer function method for future application to the space shuttle project. Volume 2: Program description and user's guide

The data processing procedures and the computer programs were developed to predict structural responses using the Impulse Transfer Function (ITF) method. There are three major steps in the process: (1) analog-to-digital (A-D) conversion of the test data to produce Phase I digital tapes (2) processing of the Phase I digital tapes to extract ITF's and storing them in a permanent data bank, and (3) predicting structural responses to a set of applied loads. The analog to digital conversion is performed by a standard package which will be described later in terms of the contents of the resulting Phase I digital tape. Two separate computer programs have been developed to perform the digital processing.

Liquid rocket combustion computer model with distributed energy release. DER computer program documentation and user's guide, volume 1

A computer program for analyzing rocket engine performance was developed. The program is concerned with the formation, distribution, flow, and combustion of liquid sprays and combustion product gases in conventional rocket combustion chambers. The capabilities of the program to determine the combustion characteristics of the rocket engine are described. Sample data code sheets show the correct sequence and formats for variable values and include notes concerning options to bypass the input of certain data. A seperate list defines the variables and indicates their required dimensions.
