IKOS: A Framework for Static Analysis based on Abstract Interpretation (Tool Paper)

The RTCA standard (DO-178C) for developing avionic software and getting certification credits includes an extension (DO-333) that describes how developers can use static analysis in certification. In this paper, we give an overview of the IKOS static analysis framework that helps developing static analyses that are both precise and scalable. IKOS harnesses the power of Abstract Interpretation and makes it accessible to a larger class of static analysis developers by separating concerns such as code parsing, model development, abstract domain management, results management, and analysis strategy. The benefits of the approach is demonstrated by a buffer overflow analysis applied to flight control systems.

Improved fluid control valve extends diaphragm life

Wear resistance of flexible diaphragms in fluid control valves is increased by incorporating a soft rubber washer at the bottom of the piston, a flexible buffer between the diaphragm and the valve seat, and a fluid feedback arrangement. The stress and wear of components at the valve seat are minimized.

An efficient, temperature-compensated subcarrier oscillator

Telemetry subcarrier oscillator has temperature stability, consumes a minimum of power, and has a high input impedance. Its output frequency is a linear function of the magnitude of an input signal. A circuit using an input buffer with a field effect transistor serves as the temperature-compensating element.

Solid state phase detector replaces bulky transformer circuit

Miniature solid state phase detector using MOSFETs is used in a phase lock loop with a sun-bit detector in an integrated data-link circuit. This replaces bulky transformer circuits. It uses an inverter amplifier, a modulator switch, and a buffer amplifier.

Noise figure measurement concept for acoustic amplifiers

Optimum length buffer crystals are used with an amplification section for measuring the noise figure for acoustic amplifiers. Measuring the time required to saturate with noise a signal, which is reflected back and forth in the circuit, gives a direct measurement of the amplifiers noise figure.

Encode/Decode facility for FORTRAN 4

An ENCODE and DECODE facility, a subroutine added to a FORTRAN 4 library, allows alphanumeric data to be transfered to or from an area in memory rather than to or from external input/output devices. A buffer storage array allows the operations on the data prior to writing.

Novel multipurpose timer for laboratories

Multipurpose digital delay timer simultaneously controls both a buffer pump and a fraction-collector. Timing and control may be in 30-second increments for up to 15 hours. Use of glassware and scintillation vials make it economical.

PCM synchronization by word stuffing

When a transmitted word, consisting of a number of pulses, is detected and removed from the data stream, the space left by the removal is eliminated by a memory buffer. This eliminates the need for a clock synchronizer thereby removing instability problems.

Ac-coupled ultrahigh input impedance amplifier

Input impedances of several hundred megohms and input capacitances of less than one picofarad are achieved with a conventional unity gain are buffer amplifier modified by addition of positive feedback. The circuit is stable over a temperature range of 25 to 70 deg C.

Precision calibration and reference voltage source for data acquisition systems

Hybrid integrated circuit operational amplifiers, which have inherent characteristics of low quiescent power dissipation and extended operational lifetime with high reliability, are source for digital systems. Amplifiers are coupled to Zener reference diode in current control and buffer configuration.
