RF signature detection for waveguide deformation

A radio frequency (RF) based waveguide health monitoring system is disclosed. The system employs an RF transmitter for launching a probe RF waveform into a waveguide. Reflections, etc., from the interior of the waveguide of the probe RF waveform create a signature RF waveform, with a health RF receiver receiving this resultant signature RF waveform. A health processing system analyzes the signature RF waveform, and when it detects a change indicative of a deformation of the waveguide, generates a warning signal. This change may be due to bends, flexes, vibrations (or changes in vibrations), or separations of the waveguide. The system may have low frequency, high frequency, or high frequency imaging modes. The system may employ a high-power probe RF waveform, thereby enabling a wireless charging system with power RF receivers located along the length of the waveguide providing additional functionality.

Total internal reflection enabled wide-field Coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering microscopy

A system is provided. The system has a femtosecond oscillator to generate pulses used for pump and probe beams. A photonic crystal fiber is disposed in a path of the probe beam and produces pulses for a chirped probe beam. A high NA objective receives the pump and the chirped probe beam, redirects the received beams through a dielectric substrate towards an interface between a sample and the dielectric substrate to cause total internal reflection (TIR) at the sample-substrate interface, and produces corresponding evanescent waves in a portion of the sample adjacent to the sample-substrate interface, and collects a backward-propagating beam of pulses of responsive light. The portion of the sample illuminated by the evanescent waves emits responsive light. The dielectric substrate is transparent to the responsive light, the pump and the chirped probe beam. An image is produced having a specific image size using the received backward-propagating beam.

Phishing in the Wild: An Ecologically Valid Study of the Phishing Tactics and Human Factors that Predict Susceptibility to a Phishing Attack

In this research, 153 employees at a National Laboratory received one of one of four different phishing emails. All of the emails were similar in content, but systematically varied according to the number and combination of phishing tactics in the message. Participants were unaware they would be receiving the email, which was sent during regular business hours. After receiving the emails, participants completed online questionnaires designed to measure possible predictors of phishing attack susceptibility. Finally, the significant predictors included how suspicious participants were of the email and their reported level of distress related to their work prior to completing the study.
