Combustion of hydrogen-air jets in local chemical equilibrium: A guide to the CHARNAL computer program

A guide to a computer program, written in FORTRAN 4, for predicting the flow properties of turbulent mixing with combustion of a circular jet of hydrogen into a co-flowing stream of air is presented. The program, which is based upon the Imperial College group's PASSA series, solves differential equations for diffusion and dissipation of turbulent kinetic energy and also of the R.M.S. fluctuation of hydrogen concentration. The effective turbulent viscosity for use in the shear stress equation is computed. Chemical equilibrium is assumed throughout the flow.

Road guide to geological points of interest on the island of Hawaii

This road guide briefly describes the points of geologic interest along the main roads on Hawaii. It begins at Hilo and proceeds around the island in a clockwise direction on State Route 11 to Kailua, then returns to Hilo on State Route 19 to Hilo via Waimea, with side excursions on the other principal roads. Minimum excursion time is two days, allowing only very brief time for the various stops. The return to Hilo from Waimea can be made via Route 19 along the Hamakua Coast (wet, leeward side of island, displaying typical tropical erosion) or via Route 20 over the Humuula Saddle (high, relatively dry and cool; young volcanic features).

Electric field correlations in the guiding-center plasma

Electric field autocorrelations for the two-dimensional electrostatic guiding-center plasma are calculated numerically. It is concluded that the autocorrelation, averaged over a thermal equilibrium ensemble, is damped in an approximately exponential fashion, as predicted by Taylor and McNamara. Oscillatory behavior of the type predicted by Taylor and Thompson is not observed.

OAO 2/Wisconsin Experiment Package (WEP) photometer users guide

The user's guide is intended to enable astronomers to reduce the filter photometry data obtained by the WEP carried on the OAO 2 spacecraft. Only information related to the stellar photometer contained within the experiment package is presented, since the nebular photometer failed after 2-1/2 months of operation, while the stellar photometers provided roughly 49 months worth of data.

GEODYN programmers guide, volume 2, part 1

A guide to the GEODYN Program is presented. The program estimates orbit and geodetic parameters. It possesses the capability to estimate that set of orbital elements, station positions, measurement biases, and a set of force model parameters such that the orbital tracking data from multiple arcs of multiple satellites best fit the entire set of estimated parameters. GEODYN consists of 113 different program segments, including the main program, subroutines, functions, and block data routines. All are in G or H level FORTRAN and are currently operational on GSFC's IBM 360/95 and IBM 360/91.

Six degree of freedom FORTRAN program, ASTP docking dynamics, users guide

The digital program ASTP Docking Dynamics as outlined is intended to aid the engineer using the program to determine the docking system loads and attendant vehicular motion resulting from docking two vehicles that have an androgynous, six-hydraulic-attenuator, guide ring, docking interface similar to that designed for the Apollo/Soyuz Test Project (ASTP). This program is set up to analyze two different vehicle combinations: the Apollo CSM docking to Soyuz and the shuttle orbiter docking to another orbiter. The subroutine modifies the vehicle control systems to describe one or the other vehicle combinations; the rest of the vehicle characteristics are changed by input data. To date, the program has been used to predict and correlate ASTP docking loads and performance with docking test program results from dynamic testing. The program modified for use on IBM 360 computers. Parts of the original docking system equations in the areas of hydraulic damping and capture latches are modified to better describe the detail design of the ASTP docking system.

Two dimensional turbulence in inviscid fluids or guiding center plasmas

Analytic theory for two-dimensional turbulent equilibria for the inviscid Navier-Stokes equations is examined mathematically. Application of the technique to electrostatic guiding center plasma is discussed. A good fit is demonstrated for the approach to a predicted energy per Fourier mode obtained from a two-temperature canonical ensemble. Negative as well as positive temperature regimes are explored. Fluctuations about the mean energy per mode also compare well with theory. In the regime of alpha less than zero, beta greater than zero, with the minimum value of alpha plus beta times k squared near zero, contour plots of the stream function reveal macroscopic vortex structures similar to those seen previously in discrete vortex simulations. Eulerian direct interaction equations, which can be used to follow the approach to inviscid equilibrium, are derived.

User's guide and description of the streamline divergence computer program

The streamline divergence program was developed to demonstrate the capability to trace inviscid surface streamlines and to calculate outflow-corrected laminar and turbulent convective heating rates on surfaces subjected to exhaust plume impingement. The analytical techniques used in formulating this program are discussed. A brief description of the streamline divergence program is given along with a user's guide. The program input and output for a sample case are also presented.

Two-dimensional turbulence in inviscid fluids or guiding center plasmas

Numerical tests of the inviscid equilibrium theory of Kraichnan (1975) are described. The mathematical description applies equally well to the two-dimensional electrostatic guiding center plasma and to the two-dimensional inviscid Navier-Stokes fluid. The predictions of this analytic theory are discussed. A pair of coupled equations are derived for the two-time vorticity autocorrelation in Fourier space and the infinitesimal unit response function G of Kraichnan in the so-called Eulerian direct interaction approximation. Kraichnan's assertion that thermodynamic limits exist for the negative temperature states is questioned.

Operations analysis (study 2.1): Program manual and users guide for the LOVES computer code

Information is provided necessary to use the LOVES Computer Program in its existing state, or to modify the program to include studies not properly handled by the basic model. The Users Guide defines the basic elements assembled together to form the model for servicing satellites in orbit. As the program is a simulation, the method of attack is to disassemble the problem into a sequence of events, each occurring instantaneously and each creating one or more other events in the future. The main driving force of the simulation is the deterministic launch schedule of satellites and the subsequent failure of the various modules which make up the satellites. The LOVES Computer Program uses a random number generator to simulate the failure of module elements and therefore operates over a long span of time typically 10 to 15 years. The sequence of events is varied by making several runs in succession with different random numbers resulting in a Monte Carlo technique to determine statistical parameters of minimum value, average value, and maximum value.

AAFE RADSCAT data reduction programs user's guide

Theory, design and operation of the computer programs which automate the reduction of joint radiometer and scatterometer observations are presented. The programs reduce scatterometer measurements to the normalized scattering coefficient; whereas the radiometer measurements are converted into antenna temperatures. The programs are both investigator and user oriented. Supplementary parameters are provided to aid in the interpretation of the observations. A hierarchy of diagnostics is available to evaluate the operation of the instrument, the conduct of the experiments and the quality of the records. General descriptions of the programs and their data products are also presented. This document therefore serves as a user's guide to the programs and is therefore intended to serve both the experimenter and the program operator.
