The assembly drawings of the receiver unit are presented for the data compression/error correction digital test system. Equipment specifications are given for the various receiver parts, including the TV input buffer register, delta demodulator, TV sync generator, memory devices, and data storage devices.
The test plan for a redundant sensor strapdown inertial measuring unit evaluation program is presented. The subjects discussed are: (1) test philosophy and limitations, (2) test sequence, (3) equipment specifications, (4) general operating procedures, (5) calibration procedures, (6) alignment test phase, and (7) navigation test phase. The data and analysis requirements are analyzed.

The command and data acquisition (CDA) station for the Synchronous Meteorological Satellite (SMS) program, located on the Eastern shore of Virginia, is described in terms of facility layout, ground support instrumentation, and capabilities. Data systems and equipment are described in detailed block diagrams. The major subsystems are identified and information on equipment specifications, frequency ranges, and data processing format is given. Automatic picture transmission, data utilization stations, data collection platforms, and the various communication links from the CDA station to the SMS spacecraft are discussed.
Specific equipment used in carrying out Skylab medical experiments is outlined and illustrated. Also included are reviews of the techniques, frequency, and protocols of the tests designed to study the long term effects of weightlessness on the human body. In-flight investigations were an evaluation of the cardiovascular system, a study of metabolic activity, investigations in the field of neurophysiology, the determination of changes in body fluids, a precise measurement of total body metabolism, and a study of crew performance by use of a time and motion experiment. Significant data obtained from in-flight and postflight tests are outlined.
The design, fabrication, and testing of a radiative cooler are described. This cooler is an engineering model suitable for bench testing in the laboratory as a part of the 10-micrometer wavelength engineering model receiver, and conforms to the standard radiative cooler configuration, except that the inner stage and its support system were redesigned to accommodate the larger, heavier SAT detector. This radiative cooler will cool the detector to cryogenic temperature levels when the receiver is in a space environment or in a suitable thermal vacuum chamber. Equipment specifications are given along with the results of thermal tests, vibration tests, and electrical integrity tests.
Technological information is presented electronic circuits and systems which have potential utility outside the aerospace community. Topics discussed include circuit components such as filters, converters, and integrators, circuits designed for use with specific equipment or systems, and circuits designed primarily for use with optical equipment or displays.
Signal processing equipment specifications, operating and test procedures, and systems design and engineering are described. Five subdivisions of the overall circuitry are treated: (1) the spectrum analyzer; (2) the spectrum integrator; (3) the velocity discriminator; (4) the display interface; and (5) the formatter. They function in series: (1) first in analog form to provide frequency resolution, (2) then in digital form to achieve signal to noise improvement (video integration) and frequency discrimination, and (3) finally in analog form again for the purpose of real-time display of the significant velocity data. The formatter collects binary data from various points in the processor and provides a serial output for bi-phase recording. Block diagrams are used to illustrate the system.
A review of existing information pertaining to spacecraft power processing systems and equipment was accomplished with a view towards applicability to the modularization of multi-kilowatt power processors. Power requirements for future spacecraft were determined from the NASA mission model-shuttle systems payload data study which provided the limits for modular power equipment capabilities. Three power processing systems were compared to evaluation criteria to select the system best suited for modularity. The shunt regulated direct energy transfer system was selected by this analysis for a conceptual design effort which produced equipment specifications, schematics, envelope drawings, and power module configurations.
A program was conducted which included the design of a set of simplified simulation tasks, design of apparatus and breadboard TV equipment for task performance, and the implementation of a number of simulation tests. Performance measurements were made under controlled conditions and the results analyzed to permit evaluation of the relative merits (effectivity) of various TV systems. Burden factors were subsequently generated for each TV system to permit tradeoff evaluation of system characteristics against performance. For the general remote operation mission, the 2-view system is recommended. This system is characterized and the corresponding equipment specifications were generated.
The Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Dictionary (DR-MA-06) for initial and subsequent flights of the Atmospheric Cloud Physics Laboratory (ACPL) is presented. An attempt is made to identify specific equipment and components in each of the eleven subsystems; they are listed under the appropriate subdivisions of the WBS. The reader is cautioned that some of these components are likely to change substantially during the course of the study, and the list provided should only be considered representative.
Various parameters were evaluated such as bias, scale factor, scale factor sensitivity to supply voltage and external temperature, and turn-on trends. Photographs and descriptions of test equipment are given, and test procedures are outlined. A systems description (electronic equipment, block diagrams), performance characteristics, and equipment specifications of the laser gyro model are given. Also considered are the laser beam optics (laser mode locking). Results are reported for the various parameters examined, and recommendations given.
An investigation of an all solid state television camera design, which uses a buried channel charge-coupled device (CCD) as the image sensor, was undertaken. A 380 x 488 element CCD array was utilized to ensure compatibility with 525 line transmission and display monitor equipment. Specific camera design approaches selected for study and analysis included (a) optional clocking modes for either fast (1/60 second) or normal (1/30 second) frame readout, (b) techniques for the elimination or suppression of CCD blemish effects, and (c) automatic light control and video gain control techniques to eliminate or minimize sensor overload due to bright objects in the scene. Preferred approaches were determined and integrated into a design which addresses the program requirements for a deliverable solid state TV camera.

Basic investigations, consisting primarily of airflow measurements and visual smoke tests, were made on four commercially available units. The results indicated that performance varied considerably between units. Therefore, it was decided to outline the performance desired and to include in the overall equipment specifications a set of performance tests to assure a clean air safety cabinet with respect to chemical usage. The evaluation was to be based on aerodynamic performance under the various modes of operation.
