A bis-calix[4]arene-supported [Cu II 16 ] cage

Reaction of 2,2'-bis-p- t Bu-calix[4]arene (H 8 L) with Cu(NO 3 ) 2 ·3H 2 O and N-methyldiethanolamine (Me-deaH 2 ) in a basic dmf/MeOH mixture affords [Cu II 16 (L) 2 (Me-dea) 4 (μ 4 -NO 3 ) 2 (μ-OH) 4 (dmf) 3.5 (MeOH) 0.5 (H 2 O) 2 ](H 6 L)·16dmf·4H 2 O (4), following slow evaporation of the mother liquor. The central core of the metallic skeleton describes a tetracapped square prism, [Cu 12 ], in which the four capping metal ions are the CuII ions housed in the calix[4]arene polyphenolic pockets. The [Cu II 8 ] square prism is held together “internally” by a combination of hydroxide and nitrate anions, with the N-methyldiethanolamine co-ligands forming dimeric [Cu II 2 ] units which edge-cap above and below the upper and lower square faces of the prism. Charge balance is maintained through the presence of one doubly deprotonated H 6 L 2- ligand per [Cu 16 ] cluster. Magnetic susceptibility measurements reveal the predominance of strong antiferromagnetic exchange interactions and an S = 1 ground state, while EPR is consistent with a large zero-field splitting.

Equation of State and Thermometry of the 2D SU ( N ) Fermi-Hubbard Model

We characterize the equation of state (EoS) of the SU ( N > 2 ) Fermi-Hubbard Model (FHM) in a two-dimensional single-layer square optical lattice. We probe the density and the site occupation probabilities as functions of interaction strength and temperature for N = 3 , 4, and 6. Our measurements are used as a benchmark for state-of-the-art numerical methods including determinantal quantum Monte Carlo and numerical linked cluster expansion. By probing the density fluctuations, we compare temperatures determined in a model-independent way by fitting measurements to numerically calculated EoS results, making this a particularly interesting new step in the exploration and characterization of the SU ( N ) FHM. The clustering of Lyman Alpha Emitting galaxies at 𝗓=2–3

Here, we measure the clustering of Lyman Alpha Emitting galaxies (LAEs) selected from the One-hundred-square-degree DECam Imaging in Narrowbands (ODIN) survey, with spectroscopic follow-up from Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI). We use DESI spectroscopy to optimize our selection and to constrain the interloper fraction and redshift distribution of our narrow-band selected sources. We select samples of 4000 LAEs at z = 2.45 and 3.1 in 9 sq. deg. centered on the COSMOS field with median Lyα fluxes of ≈ 10 -16 erg s -1 cm -2 . Covariances and cosmological inferences are obtained from a series of mock catalogs built upon high-resolution N-body simulations that match the footprint, number density, redshift distribution and observed clustering of the sample. We find that both samples have a correlation length of r 0 = 3.0 ± 0.2 h -1 Mpc. Within our fiducial cosmology these correspond to 3D number densities of ≈ 10 -3 h 3 Mpc -3 and, from our mock catalogs, biases of 1.7 and 2.0 at z= 2.45 and 3.1, respectively. We discuss the implications of these measurements for the use of LAEs as large-scale structure tracers for high-redshift cosmology.

Symbol alphabets from tensor diagrams

We propose to use tensor diagrams and the Fomin-Pylyavskyy conjectures to explore the connection between symbol alphabets of n-particle amplitudes in planar $\mathcal{N}$ = 4 Yang-Mills theory and certain polytopes associated to the Grassmannian Gr(4, n). We show how to assign a web (a planar tensor diagram) to each facet of these polytopes. Webs with no inner loops are associated to cluster variables (rational symbol letters). For webs with a single inner loop we propose and explicitly evaluate an associated web series that contains information about algebraic symbol letters. In this manner we reproduce the results of previous analyses of n ≤ 8, and find that the polytope $\mathcal{C}^†$(4,9) encodes all rational letters, and all square roots of the algebraic letters, of known nine-particle amplitudes.

Structural and Biophysical Properties of a [4Fe-4S] Ferredoxin-Like Protein from Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 with a Unique Two Domain Structure

Electron carrier proteins (ECPs), binding iron-sulfur clusters, are vital components within the intricate network of metabolic and photosynthetic reactions. They play a crucial role in the distribution of reducing equivalents. In Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803, the ECP network includes at least nine ferredoxins. Previous research, including global expression analyses and protein binding studies, has offered initial insights into the functional roles of individual ferredoxins within this network. This study primarily focuses on Ferredoxin 9 (slr2059). Through sequence analysis and computational modeling, Ferredoxin 9 emerges as a unique ECP with a distinctive two-domain architecture. It consists of a C-terminal iron-sulfur binding domain and an N-terminal domain with homology to Nil-domain proteins, connected by a structurally rigid 4-amino acid linker. Notably, in contrast to canonical [2Fe-2S] ferredoxins exemplified by PetF (ssl0020), which feature highly acidic surfaces facilitating electron transfer with photosystem I reaction centers, models of Ferredoxin 9 reveal a more neutral to basic protein surface. Using a combination of electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy and square-wave voltammetry on heterologously produced Ferredoxin 9, this study demonstrates that the protein coordinates 2x[4Fe-4S]2+/1+ redox-active and magnetically interacting clusters, with measured redox potentials of -420 +/- 9 mV and -516 +/- 10 mV vs SHE. A more in-depth analysis of Fdx9's unique structure and protein sequence suggests that this type of Nil-2[4Fe-4S] multi-domain ferredoxin is well conserved in cyanobacteria, bearing structural similarities to proteins involved in homocysteine synthesis in methanogens.

Twisting the Hubbard model into the momentum-mixing Hatsugai–Kohmoto model

The Hubbard model is a standard theoretical tool for studying materials with strong electron–electron interactions, such as cuprate superconductors. Unfortunately, interaction-driven phenomena, such as a transition into the strongly correlated Mott insulator phase, are difficult to treat with established theoretical techniques. However, the exactly solvable Hatsugai–Kohmoto model displays similar Mott physics. In this work we show how the Hatsugai–Kohmoto model can be deformed continuously into the Hubbard model. The trick is to systematically reintroduce all the momentum mixing that the original Hatsugai–Kohmoto model omits. This can be accomplished by grouping n momenta into a cell and hybridizing them, resulting in the momentum-mixing Hatsugai–Kohmoto model. We recover the Bethe ansatz ground-state energy of the one-dimensional Hubbard model to within 1% from only ten mixed momenta. Overall, the convergence scales as 1/n2 as opposed to the inverse linear behaviour of standard finite-cluster techniques. Our results for a square lattice reproduce all the known features from state-of-the-art simulations also with only a few mixed momenta. Consequently, we believe that the momentum-mixing Hatsugai–Kohmoto model offers an alternative tool for strongly correlated quantum matter.

Polyhydrido Copper Nanoclusters with a Hollow Icosahedral Core: [Cu 30 H 18 {E 2 P(OR) 2 } 12 ] (E=S or Se; R= n Pr, i Pr or i Bu)

Although atomically precise polyhydrido copper nanoclusters are of prime interest for a variety of applications, they have so far remained scarce. Here, we describe the synthesis of a dithiophosphate-protected copper(I) hydride-rich nanocluster (NC), [Cu 30 H 18 {S 2 P(O n Pr) 2 } 12 ] ( 1 H ), fully characterized by various spectroscopic methods and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The X-ray structure of 1 H reveals an unprecedented central Cu 12 hollow icosahedron. Six faces of this icosahedron are capped by Cu 3 triangles, the whole Cu 30 core being wrapped by twelve dithiophosphate ligands and the whole cluster has ideal S 6 symmetry. The locations of the 18 hydrides in 1 H were ascertained by a single-crystal neutron diffraction study. They are composed of three types: capping μ 3 -H, interstitial μ 4 -H (seesaw) and μ 5 -H ligands (square pyramidal), in good agreement with the DFT simulations. The numbers of hydrides and ligand resonances in the 1 H NMR spectrum of 1 H are in line with their coordination environment in the solid state, retaining the S 6 symmetry in solution. Furthermore, two new Se-protected polyhydrido copper nanoclusters, [Cu 30 H 18 {Se 2 P(OR) 2 } 12 ] ( 2 H : R= i Pr 3 H : R= i Bu) were synthesized from their sulfur relative 1 H via ligand displacement reaction and their X-ray structures feature the exceptional case where both the NC shape and size are fully conserved during the course of ligand exchange. DFT and TD-DFT calculations allow understanding the bonding and optical properties of clusters 1 H – 3 H . In addition, the reaction of 1 H with [Pd(PPh 3 ) 2 Cl 2 ] in the presence of terminal alkynes led to the formation of new bimetallic Cu–Pd alloy clusters [PdCu 14 H 2 {S 2 P(O n Pr) 2 } 6 (C≡CR) 6 ] ( 4 : R=Ph; 5 : R = C 6 H 4 F).

Cryogenic Photoelectron Spectroscopic and Theoretical Study of the Electronic and Geometric Structures of Undercoordinated Osmium Chloride Anions OsCl n – ( n = 3–5)

A series of anionic transition metal halides OsCl n - (n=3–5) have been investigated using a newly developed, home-constructed, cryogenic anion cluster photoelectron spectroscopy. Here, the target anionic species are generated through collision-induced dissociation in a two-stage ion funnel. The measured vertical detachment energies (VDEs) are 3.48 eV, 4.54 eV, and 4.81 eV for n = 3, 4, and 5, respectively. Density functional theory calculations at the B3LYP-D3(BJ)//aug-cc-pVTZ (-pp) level predict the lowest energy structures of OsCl n - (n = 3–5) to be a quintet triangle, quartet square, and quintet square-based pyramid, respectively. The CCSD(T)-calculated VDEs and corresponding adiabatic detachment energies (ADEs) agree well with our experimental measurements. Analysis of the corresponding frontier molecular orbitals (FMOs) and charge density differences suggests that the d-orbitals of the transition metal Os play a primary role in the single-photon detachment processes, and the detached electrons originating from different molecular orbitals are distinguishable.
