Assessment of Accelerated Stress Testing Data for Silicon Photovoltaics Using Tensor Decomposition Methods

In this work, we examine the use of high-order tensor decompositions to analyze degradation pathways emerging from accelerated stress testing of silicon photovoltaic (PV) modules. Matrix-based decompositions are powerful tools for studying two-dimensional data arrays and form the foundation of a host of classical data analysis techniques. Tensors are high-order extrapolations of matrices that are able to account for more parameter dimensions, and a variety of tensor decomposition methods have been developed that similarly seek to extend insights from matrix decompositions to higher dimensions. Applying and interpreting tensor decomposition methods to sequences of PV module image data, we seek to uncover and isolate different degradation modes occurring from accelerated stress testing procedures. Further, we consider the contributions of different modes to PV module performance degradations.

In Situ Data Analysis Through Physics-informed Tensor Decompositions (LDRD Final Report)

We introduce a new low-dimensional model of high-dimensional numerical simulation data based on low-rank tensor decompositions. Our new model aims to minimize differences between the model data and simulation data as well as functions of the model data and functions of the simulation data. This novel approach to dimensionality reduction of simulation data provides a means of directly incorporating quantities of interests and invariants associated with conservation principles associated with the simulation data into the low-dimensional model, thus enabling more accurate analysis of the simulation without requiring access to the full set of high-dimensional data. Computational results of applying this approach to two standard low-rank tensor decompositions of data arising from simulation of combustion and plasma physics are presented.

An end-to-end trainable hybrid classical-quantum classifier

Abstract We introduce a hybrid model combining a quantum-inspired tensor network and a variational quantum circuit to perform supervised learning tasks. This architecture allows for the classical and quantum parts of the model to be trained simultaneously, providing an end-to-end training framework. We show that compared to the principal component analysis, a tensor network based on the matrix product state with low bond dimensions performs better as a feature extractor for the input data of the variational quantum circuit in the binary and ternary classification of MNIST and Fashion-MNIST datasets. The architecture is highly adaptable and the classical-quantum boundary can be adjusted according to the availability of the quantum resource by exploiting the correspondence between tensor networks and quantum circuits.

Bootstrapping Mixed MN Correlators in 3D

The recent emergence of the modern conformal bootstrap method for the study of conformal field theories (CFTs) has enabled the revisiting of old problems in classical critical phenomena described by three-dimensional CFTs. The study of such CFTs with O(m)^n \rtimes S_n O ( m ) n ⋊ S n global symmetry, also known as models, is pursued in this work. Systems of mixed correlators involving scalar operators in two different representations of the global symmetry group are considered. Isolated allowed regions are found in parameter space for various values of m m and n n . These ``islands’’ can be separated into two qualitative groups: those close to the unitarity bound and those further away. As a by-product of our analysis generic tensor structures required to bootstrap any G^n \rtimes S_n G n ⋊ S n theory with G G arbitrary are worked out.

Prediction and measurement of turbulent aerodynamic trailing edge flows

A viscous-inviscid interaction algorithm is developed for prediction of two-dimensional mean and fluctuating velocity distributions in the wake immediately downstream of an airfoil trailing edge. A composite pressure field is defined, and a Poisson equation solved for transverse pressure variations. A parabolized form of the time-averaged steady Navier-Stokes equations are solved in conjunction with a viscous-augmented two-dimensional inviscid potential flow analysis. A tensor constitutive equation is employed to predict Reynolds stress distributions from solutions of a turbulence kinetic energy two equation closure model. Numerical predictions compared favorably with detailed experimental data for mean and fluctuating velocities, and Reynolds shear stress distributions, in the trailing edge region of a NACA 63-012 airfoil.
