Electronic skewing circuit monitors exact position of object underwater

Linear Variable Differential Transformer /LVDT/ electronic skewing circuit guides a long cylindrical capsule underwater into a larger tube so that it does not contact the tube wall. This device detects movement of the capsule from a reference point and provides a continuous signal that is monitored on an oscilloscope.

Electronic visualization of gas bearing behavior

Visualization technique produces a visual simulation of gas bearing operation by electronically combining the outputs from the clearance probes used to monitor bearing component motion. Computerized recordings of the probes output are processed, displayed on an oscilloscope screen and recorded with a high-speed motion picture camera.

Sweep frequency detector

Sweep detector or passive spectrum analyzer provides a positive monitoring of the bandwidth of the input amplifier of a tracking receiver. Used with an oscilloscope, it provides a visual display of a microwave amplifier bandpass.

Contourograph display system for monitoring electrocardiograms

Electrocardiogram is displayed as a contourogram on the cathode ray tube of a variable-persistence oscilloscope. Each cycle is stacked below its predecessors giving a three dimensional effect. A major change in the signal is apparent as a change in the contourogram pattern.

Waveform simulator synthesizes complex functions

Multichannel apparatus produces or simulates a complex curve which can be viewed on an oscilloscope display surface and can be adjusted to match an original complex experimentally produced curve.

Ultrasonic detection of flaws in fusion butt welds

Reliable and accurate Delta technique, a nondestructive ultrasonics method, uses redirection of energy to detect randomly oriented imperfections in fusion butt welds. Data on flaws can be read from either an oscilloscope or a printout.

Amplifier for signal from thin film transducer

Electronic circuitry is devised to raise low level signal from platinum film type transducer to sufficient amplitude to trigger oscilloscope or time interval counter. Circuit can be used wherever it is necessary to raise level of low amplitude, low impedance positive polarity pulse source to a 5 or 6 volt level.

Convective heating measurement by means of an infrared camera

The development of rapid and accurate wind tunnel techniques to measure convective heating distributions in complex reentry configurations is discussed. Major emphasis was put on the infrared camera technique. Its essence is the measurement of infrared emission from the surface of a wind tunnel model as a function of time. Prior calibration of the infrared camera relates the emission to the surface temperature of the model. The time history of the surface temperature can then be related to the heating rate by standard techniques. The output of the camera is an electrical signal that is tape-recorded in analog form, then digitized and processed by computer, so that automated and relatively rapid data reduction can be accomplished. In addition, the camera produces real-time visual displays of the infrared emission as pictures on an oscilloscope screen. These pictures give immediate indications of hot and cool spots on the model.

Vibration-rotation double resonance effects in symmetrical top molecules.

Rotational transitions in symmetrical top molecules in the wavelength regions of 1-3 mm are sufficiently strong to be observed directly on an oscilloscope. Changes in the vibrational level populations induced by laser radiations affect the intensity of the rotational transitions. Observation of the microwave lines under the influence of chopped laser radiation shows a variety of interesting and potentially informative effects. At pressures above a few tenths of a torr the effect of laser radiation is to reduce the microwave response. This is true for all microwave lines at all those laser frequencies which are absorbed by the gas, and this effect is roughly proportional to the absorption coefficient. The rise and decay times of this effect increase with pressure and the the linear dimensions of the absorption cell. At low pressures the microwave response may increase, decrease, or remain unaffected depending on the observed microwave transitions and the specific laser line applied to the gas.
