Oak Ridge National Laboratory Evaluation of Stream-Trained Models in Practice

The goal of this integration is to replicate the results from the original paper Autonomous Utility Pole Identification on different camera hardware and integrate the model into a live video stream provided by the unmanned aerial system (UAS) itself while in operation. This involves retraining the original model and validating its efficacy on multiple camera modules to select the most effective device for installation. Moreover, this integration requires writing software to handle the reception of a real-time streaming protocol stream from the UAS and run each frame through the model while allowing a user to monitor the camera feed.

Sierra/SD – Its2Sierra – User’s Manual – 5.28

Incrementally updated theory documents associated with new software release. The Integrated Tiger Series (ITS) generates a database containing energy deposition data. This data, when stored on an Exodus file, is not typically suitable for analysis within Sierra Mechanics for finite element analysis. The its2sierra tool maps data from the ITS database to the Sierra database. This document provides information on the usage of its2sierra.

Bridging Cloud and Edge Computing at NREL Using CONNECT: Cloud Optimized Networking for Next-Gen Edge Computing Technologies [Slides]

CONNECT is an innovative on-premise hardware and software solution that integrates edge and cloud computing infrastructure at NREL. Built on the AWS Greengrass middleware and leveraging the MQTT protocol, CONNECT enables real-time data streaming from IoT devices and gateways to both cloud and local services, empowering researchers to rapidly capture, analyze, and act upon edge-generated data while leveraging cloud capabilities. The platform addresses research infrastructure challenges by providing a pre-approved platform which is already configured with the correct networking and cybersecurity baselines thus eliminating procurement delays and enabling on-demand availability. CONNECT's hybrid architecture efficiently manages burstable workloads, allowing research teams to dynamically scale computational capacity, handle peak data loads, and reduce operational bottlenecks. Advanced capabilities include built-in GPU support for executing machine learning models which enables low-latency inference at the edge from models trained in the cloud. This architecture supports real-time analytics and filtering, providing a mechanism to allow only transmitting and processing high-value data. Cloud-based configuration management permits engineers to manage on-premise systems remotely, optimizing operational efficiency. By bridging edge and cloud computing, CONNECT provides NREL researchers with a flexible, scalable platform that accelerates scientific discovery while maintaining robust security and performance standards.

Operational concepts for selected Sortie missions: Executive summary

An executive summary is presented of a Spacelab concept study conducted from August 1973 to June 1974. Background information and a summary of study conclusions are given. Specific data are reported for the quick-reaction carrier concept, software and mission integration, configuration management, documentation, equipment pool, and integration alternatives. A forecast of the impact of a second launch site, mission feasibility, and space availability for the Spacelab are also discussed.

Contribution of the Spacelab data management system to lower cost space research

This paper reviews the design and operation of the Spacelab data management system as it has evolved. Significant improvements and extensions of the original baseline system have been incorporated and will be discussed. They include the capability for the remote control of Spacelab subsystems, improved remote data acquisition units, a high-rate digital data multiplexer, and an improved high-rate digital recorder. Emphasis will be placed on the overall system aspects, including considerations on the use of minicomputers as an adjunct to the basic Spacelab data system. The approach for experiment related software production and integration will be addressed as well. The paper focuses on the contributions of the data management system in reducing the cost of research in Spacelab.

YF-12 cooperative airframe/propulsion control system program, volume 1

Several YF-12C airplane analog control systems were converted to a digital system. Included were the air data computer, autopilot, inlet control system, and autothrottle systems. This conversion was performed to allow assessment of digital technology applications to supersonic cruise aircraft. The digital system was composed of a digital computer and specialized interface unit. A large scale mathematical simulation of the airplane was used for integration testing and software checkout.

The Aerospace Vehicle Interactive Design system

The aerospace vehicle interactive design (AVID) is a computer aided design that was developed for the conceptual and preliminary design of aerospace vehicles. The AVID system evolved from the application of several design approaches in an advanced concepts environment in which both mission requirements and vehicle configurations are continually changing. The basic AVID software facilitates the integration of independent analysis programs into a design system where the programs can be executed individually for analysis or executed in groups for design iterations and parametric studies. Programs integrated into an AVID system for launch vehicle design include geometry, aerodynamics, propulsion, flight performance, mass properties, and economics.

IAC level "O" program development

The current status of the IAC development activity is summarized. The listed prototype software and documentation was delivered, and details were planned for development of the level 1 operational system. The planned end product IAC is required to support LSST design analysis and performance evaluation, with emphasis on the coupling of required technical disciplines. The long term IAC effectively provides two distinct features: a specific set of analysis modules (thermal, structural, controls, antenna radiation performance and instrument optical performance) that will function together with the IAC supporting software in an integrated and user friendly manner; and a general framework whereby new analysis modules can readily be incorporated into IAC or be allowed to communicate with it.

Launch processing system concept to reality

The Launch Processing System represents Kennedy Space Center's role in providing a major integrated hardware and software system for the test, checkout and launch of a new space vehicle. Past programs considered the active flight vehicle to ground interfaces as part of the flight systems and therefore the related ground system was provided by the Development Center. The major steps taken to transform the Launch Processing System from a concept to reality with the successful launches of the Shuttle Programs Space Transportation System are addressed.

A simplified procedure for decoding the (23,12) and (24,12) Golay codes

A simplified procedure is developed to decode the three possible erors in a (23,12) Golay codeword. A computer simulation shows that this algorithm is modular, regular and naturally suitable for both Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) and software implementation. An extension of this new decoding procedure is used also to decode the 1/2-rate (24,12) Golay code, thereby correcting three and detecting four errors.
