Power Module Precursors and Prognostics

The ongoing work involves 1) the identification and evaluation of various electric signals as indicators to module failure and precursors to aging, and 2) the development of corresponding detection techniques. In the current phase, 1) the increase of on-state resistance is selected as the precursor to the power cycle aging of silicon carbide power MOSFET modules based on review and rest data. 2) A detection method leveraging the gate voltage fluctuations magnitude during commutation transients to inform the on-state resistance increase is investigated which has the benefit of being able to be integrated into the gate driver. A dedicated detection circuit for implementation is designed and simulated and is currently in fabrication.

Community-Controlled Transportation: The Western New York E-Bike Library Network: Preprint

Shared Mobility Inc. (SMI) has used their mission of community-controlled transportation to partner with community based organizations on the launch and operations of E-Bike Libraries (EBLs) in Western New York (WNY) and beyond since 2021. For almost four years, the WNY EBLs have provided e-bikes at no cost to underserved communities in Buffalo and Niagara Falls. Participants used the e-bikes for commuting, recreational rides, community bike rides, running errands, and accessing essential services. This program significantly increased e-bike accessibility, with 71% of participants being first-time riders and 78% identifying as Black/African American. Challenges such as bike maintenance, battery charging logistics, and the need for suitable storage were addressed through partnerships with community-based organizations and adjustments to program logistics. Those lessons have been applied to additional EBLs in Pacoima, California and Carlisle, Pennsylvania, which have also been launched by SMI with a continued emphasis on the importance of community based approaches to sustainable transportation. All of these programs demonstrate the potential of e-bikes to provide an affordable, efficient, and fun transportation option, particularly for underserved communities. By leveraging community partnerships and focusing on accessibility and inclusivity, E-Bike Libraries can significantly contribute to sustainable transportation solutions and promote broader participation in the transportation electrification revolution.

Uniqueness of MHV Gravity Amplitudes

We investigate MHV tree-level gravity amplitudes as defined on the spinor-helicity variety. Unlike their gluon counterparts, the gravity amplitudes do not have logarithmic singularities and do not admit Amplituhedron-like construction. Importantly, they are not determined just by their singularities, but rather their numerators have interesting zeroes. We make a conjecture about the uniqueness of the numerator and explore this feature from a more mathematical perspective. This leads us to a new approach for examining adjoints. We outline steps of our proposed proof and provide computational evidence for its validity in specific cases.

Experimental evaluation of a COTS system for space applications

The use of COTS-based systems in space missions for scientific data processing is very attractive, as their ratio of performance to power consumption of commercial components can be an order of magnitude greater than that of radiation hardened components, and the price differential is even higher.

An experimental evaluation of the REE SIFT environment for spaceborne applications

This paper presents an experimental evaluation of a software-implemented fault tolerance environment built around a set of self-checking ARMOR proceses running on different machines that provide error detection and recovery services to themselves and to spaceborne scientific applications.

NASA N3-X with Turboelectric Distributed Propulsion

Presentation summarizing the phase I study of the NASA N3-X turboelectric distributed propulsion power aircraft to the IMechE Disruptive Green Propulsion Technologies conference in London, UK November 16th and 17th, 2014. This presentation contains the results of a NASA internal study funded by the NASA Fixed Wing program to look at the application of turboelectric distributed propulsion to a long-range 300 seat aircraft. The reference aircraft is the Boeing 777-200LR. The N3-X reduced energy consumption by 70 compared to the 777-200LR, LTO NOx by 85 compared to the CAEP 6 limits, and noise by 32-64 EPNdB depending on engine placement compared to the stage 4 noise standards. This exceeded the N+3 metrics of reducing energy by 60, LTO NOx by 80, and noise by 52 EPNdB. Cruise NOx was not estimated, but likely meet the 80 reduction goal as well.
