SG50 Data-format Specifications Document for the Automatically Readable, Comprehensive, and Curated Experimental Reaction Database MEDUSAL

The aim of this document is to lay out a first draft of the specifications for the MEDUSAL database (Machine-readable Experimental Data User App & Library) that is being described by OECD/NEA/WPEC SG-50. The EXFOR database (Otuka et al., 2014) has a format that is based on code-value pairs, and a significant portion of the information in the EXFOR entry is contained in free text sections. Several high-level requirements for the MEDUSAL database, as laid out in the Use Cases and Requirements Working Paper (citation), relate to the definition of the specifications

Documentation of the Recirculation in a Closed-Chamber Rotor Hover Test

A rotor hover test was performed inside the JPL 25-foot-diameter Space Simulator. The 40-inch-diameter rotor was tested at two locations in the chamber-on the chamber centerline and 2m off-axis. The rotor was tested in both upright and inverted configurations for 500 < RPM < 2000. Fluorescent tufts were used to identify regions of recirculation. Velocities on the entrainment side of the rotor were measured. Tabulated values for the mean entrainment velocity components and the corresponding root mean square velocity fluctuations are provided. Unsteady velocity measurements provide a description of the turbulence ingested into the rotor plane and quantify the unsteady velocity field that the Mars Scout Helicopter can expect to encounter during free flight inside the Space Simulator.

Importance of Sample Handling and Preparation for Surface Analysis: A Summary of ISO Standard 20579 Part 1, Documenting and Reporting the Handling of Specimens Prior to Analysis

Reliable and reproducible analysis of surfaces is critically dependent on how samples have been collected, handled, and prepared before analysis. Although there are important, well-established general guidelines to minimize unintended alteration of the surfaces to be analyzed, specific handling steps depend on the nature of the samples and information desired. Assessments of the validity and reliability of the results require adequate information about sampling, handling, and processing. ISO standard 20579 part 1 describes the information to be recorded and reported for samples that are prepared or submitted for surface analysis. This paper summarizes elements of the standard, which includes annexes that justify and inform the sample handling processes. Also included is a checklist of information that needs to be recorded and reported and an appendix containing an example of a form that might be used to report the information.

Documentation, assessment, and improvements of fission gas modeling capabilities in BISON

Fission gas behavior critically affects nuclear fuel performance, influencing thermal conductivity, microstructure, swelling, and fuel-cladding interactions. The Simple Integrated Fission Gas Release and Swelling (Sifgrs) model, implemented within the BISON fuel performance code, provides advanced capabilities for modeling these phenomena. This manuscript reviews and assesses Sifgrs’ modular structure and submodels describing intragranular, intergranular, and release mechanisms. The modular implementation enables rapid improvements as our understanding advances and new fuel forms emerge. After an overview of capabilities, we present a comprehensive validation suite, comparing predictions to experimental data from tests under normal and transient conditions, including reproduction of the Vitanza curve. Results demonstrate Sifgrs’ accuracy, robustness, and applicability. Current limitations and ongoing efforts are discussed, including mechanistic, multiscale modeling, uncertainty quantification, and validation within the Nuclear Energy Advanced Modeling and Simulation (NEAMS) program, supporting the safe and efficient use of nuclear fuels.

End-Use Savings Shapes Measure Documentation: Electric Cooking Equipment

Building on the successfully completed effort to calibrate and validate the U.S. Department of Energy’s ResStock™ and ComStock™ models over the past three years, the objective of this work is to produce national datasets that empower analysts working for federal, state, utility, city, and manufacturer stakeholders to answer a broad range of analysis questions. The goal of this work is to develop energy efficiency, electrification, and demand flexibility end-use load shapes (electricity, gas, propane, or fuel oil) that cover most of the high-impact, market-ready (or nearly market-ready) measures. “Measures” refers to energy efficiency variables that can be applied to buildings during modeling.

End-Use Savings Shapes Measure Documentation: Economizers

Building on the successfully completed effort to calibrate and validate the U.S. Department of Energy's ResStock™ and ComStock™ models over the past 3 years, the objective of this work is to produce national data sets that empower analysts working for federal, state, utility, city, and manufacturer stakeholders to answer a broad range of analysis questions. The goal of this work is to develop energy efficiency, electrification, and demand flexibility end-use load shapes (electricity, gas, propane, or fuel oil) that cover a majority of the high-impact, market-ready (or nearly market-ready) measures. "Measures" refers to energy efficiency variables that can be applied to buildings during modeling. An end-use savings shape is the difference in energy consumption between a baseline building and a building with an energy efficiency, electrification, or demand flexibility measure applied. It results in a time-series profile that is broken down by end use and fuel (electricity or on-site gas, propane, or fuel oil use) at each time step. ComStock is a highly granular, bottom-up model that uses multiple data sources, statistical sampling methods, and advanced building energy simulations to estimate the annual subhourly energy consumption of the commercial building stock across the United States. The baseline model intends to represent the U.S. commercial building stock as it existed in 2018. The methodology and results of the baseline model are discussed in the final technical report of the End-Use Load Profiles project.

VA EDH Data Curation Documentation (FY24-Q3)

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) places the health and well-being of our nation’s veterans as its top priority. VA is dedicated to offering timely access to high-quality, evidence-based mental health care that meets the needs of veterans and supports their reintegration into society. One of our core missions is to prevent suicide among veterans through innovative approaches and resources. Health outcomes, including suicide, are typically influenced by both genetics and environmental factors, such as air quality, transportation access, food availability, homelessness, and more. Mental health outcomes are associated with various stressors across socioeconomic, economic, and physical environments. Analyzing the connections between these stressors, covariates, and health outcomes relies on standardized data, which can be integrated into models like the VA’s Recovery Engagement and Coordination for Health, Veterans Enhanced Treatment (REACH VET). The World Health Organization (WHO) defines Environmental Determinants of Health (EDH) as factors like clean air, stable climate, water and sanitation, chemical safety, radiation protection, safe workplaces, sustainable agriculture, healthy urban environments, and nature preservation, all of which are crucial for good health.
