A full approximation scheme (FAS) nonlinear multigrid solver for two-phase flow and transport problems driven by wells with multiple perforations is developed here. It is an extension to our previous work on FAS solvers for diffusion and transport problems. The solver is applicable to discrete problems defined on unstructured grids as the coarsening algorithm is aggregation-based and algebraic. To construct coarse basis that can better capture the radial flow near wells, coarse grids in which perforated well cells are not near the coarse-element interface are desired. This is achieved by an aggregation algorithm proposed in this paper that makes use of the location of well cells in the cell-connectivity graph. Numerical examples in which the FAS solver is compared against Newton's method on benchmark problems are given. In particular, for a refined version of the SAIGUP model, the FAS solver is at least 35% faster than Newton's method for time steps with a CFL number greater than 10.

In the development of a conditioning process for cesium-bearing sorbents from the decontamination of aqueous waste streams, the treatment of a granular material composed of (Cs,K) 2 CuFe(CN) 6 loaded onto mesoporous silica particles has been investigated in an additive-free two-step conditioning process involving (i) calcination at 1000 °C to remove volatile species and (ii) densification by spark plasma sintering. A 92.0 % dense pellet was obtained after 10 min sintering at 850 °C under 100 MPa. Density and microstructural measurements indicate that densification is first driven by the viscous flow of a vitreous phase containing Cs, formed during calcination. Additionally, the density of the sample then increases further during sintering by grain boundary diffusion. However, a limited but non negligible part of cesium is lost during densification.

As an alternative to lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have attracted much attention because sodium is abundant, cost-effective, and environmentally benign. However, due to the larger size of Na-ion compared to the Li-ion, graphite does not work well as an anode for SIBs, as it does for LIBs. In this work, based on first-principles calculations, we show that the recently proposed topological semi-metallic carbon, HZGM-42, has great potential as an anode material for SIBs. With a large capacity of 318.5 mAhg -1 , low diffusion barrier of 0.08–0.21 eV, low average open-circuit voltage of 0.43 V, and a small volume expansion of 1.85%, the all-carbon topological quantum HZGM-42 has high energy density, good rate capability, and excellent cycling stability and can serve as a universal anode material for both LIBs and SIBs.
