Expanding the mass range and techniques by which we search for dark matter is an important part of the worldwide particle physics program. Accelerator-based searches for dark matter and dark sector particles are a uniquely compelling part of this program as a way to both create and detect dark matter in the laboratory and explore the dark sector by searching for mediators and excited dark matter particles. This paper focuses on developing the DarkQuest experimental concept and gives an outlook on related enhancements collectively referred to as LongQuest. DarkQuest is a proton fixed-target experiment with leading sensitivity to an array of visible dark sector signatures in the MeV-GeV mass range. Because it builds off of existing accelerator and detector infrastructure, it offers a powerful but modest-cost experimental initiative that can be realized on a short timescale.
This case study highlights phase one and two of U.S. OPM's energy savings project at its headquarters building, which involves an energy savings performance contract and integration of lighting with HVAC controls. The project was recognized by DOE's Integrated Lighting Campaign.
Increasing the Fermilab Main Injector (MI) beam power above ~1.2 MW requires replacement of the 8 GeV Booster by a higher intensity alternative. Earlier, rapid-cycling synchrotron and linac solutions were considered for this purpose. In this paper, we consider the linac version that produces 8 GeV H- beam for injection into the Recycler Ring (RR) or MI The new linac takes ~1 GeV beam from the PIP-II linac and accelerates it to ~ 2 GeV in a 650 MHz SRF linac, and then accelerates to ~8 GeV in an SRF pulsed linac using 1300 MHz cryomodules. The linac components incorporate recent improvements in SRF technology. This Booster Replacement linac (BRL) will increase MI beam power to DUNE to more than 2.5 MW and enable next-generation intensity frontier experiments.

A method for converting an alcohol to a jet-diesel hydrocarbon fraction, comprising contacting the alcohol with a pillared two-dimensional zeolite catalyst at a temperature of at least 200° C. and up to 500° C. to convert the alcohol to hydrocarbons comprising: (a) a first mixed olefin fraction containing a mixture of C 2 -C 5 olefins; (b) a first paraffin fraction containing C 3 -C 5 paraffins; and (c) a gasoline fraction containing C 6 + hydrocarbons; and the conversion of the alcohol is energy neutral or exothermic. The first mixed olefin fraction may be subjected to an oligomerization process to result in a second paraffin fraction containing C 3 -C 6 paraffins along with a C 7 + partially unsaturated fraction, and the first and second paraffin fractions combined into a total C 3 -C 6 paraffin fraction, which can in turn be subjected to a dehydrogenation or aromatization process with hydrogen gas as byproduct, and the hydrogen gas recycled for use in producing the jet-diesel fraction.
