popclass

popclass is a lightweight python package that allows fast, probabilistic classification of the lens of a microlensing event given the event's posterior distribution and a model of the Galaxy. popclass provides the bridge between Galactic simulation and lens classification, an interface to common Bayesian inference libraries, and the ability for users to flexibly specify their own Galactic model and classification parameters.

Code Release for “Unlocking Extreme Space Weather through Advanced Modeling of Legacy Vela Spacecraft” ER

The software being developed for this project has two mains aims. First, a Bayesian Model Calibration (BMC) procedure is being developed to calibrate a spallation model that simulates protons hitting a spacecraft orbiting earth to real data. The procedure will be developed for general data (there is no data release requested as part of this code release). Second, an inverse physics modeling task is being undertaken to map the number of resulting neutrons observed from this process to the expected number of protons that hit the model. This second task is of statistical interest; to publish on it, the code will need to be open source.

ALchemist (Active Learning Toolkit for Chemical and Materials Research) [SWR-25-102]

ALchemist is a modular Python toolkit that brings active learning and Bayesian optimization to experimental design in chemical and materials research. It is designed for scientists and engineers who want to efficiently explore or optimize high-dimensional variable spaces—without writing code—using an intuitive graphical interface.

Hierarchical Estimation For Planetary Protection

The software uses Bayes' theorem to describe the probability of an event based on prior knowledge of conditions that might be related to the event. The purpose of Bayesian analysis is to determine posterior probabilities based on prior probabilities where new information can be used in the decision-making process as additional data is gathered. The software will be used in Probabilistic Risk Assessments (PRAs) related to the Europa Clipper mission, which is one of NASA’s top priorities. Ultimately, the mission entails sending the Europa Clipper spacecraft to Jupiter’s Europa moon to orbit the planet and collect data for research and development. Europa is the smallest of the four Galilean moons orbiting Jupiter and is believed by researchers to be the most promising place to look for present-day environments suitable for life. Europa is thought to have an iron core, a rocky mantle, and a salt-water ocean covered by an ice-layered surface.

Prime VI

SAND2025-03757O Prime VI is a distribution-of-disease outbreak model calibration code based on variational inference. It accompanies a publication for submission to Statistics in Medicine journal, and the code will be maintained for open-source use on Sandia's GitLab. The software provides methods for calibrating an epidemiological model to measured case-count data for a multitude of correlated spatial regions. The code solves a Bayesian inverse problem for model calibration where the posterior over-model parameters are approximated through a custom implementation of variational inference. Sandia National Laboratories is a multimission laboratory managed and operated by National Technology & Engineering Solutions of Sandia, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Honeywell International Inc., for the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration under contract DE-NA0003525.

GP-BayesOpInf

SAND2025-01851O GP-BayesOpInf is a software tool that uses algorithms to combine Gaussian process regression, principal component analysis, and linear Bayesian inference to produce a probabilistic reduced-order model for time-dependent systems. Numerical examples include the compressible Euler equations for an ideal gas, a heat diffusion process with a nonlinear reaction term, and a set of ordinary differential equations describing a compartmental model in epidemiology. Sandia National Laboratories is a multimission laboratory managed and operated by National Technology & Engineering Solutions of Sandia, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Honeywell International Inc., for the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration under contract DE-NA0003525.

sparse_bias

This is a python package used to fit an unknown function from data that potential contains systematic biases related to metadata. The model fits the unknown function and uses a Bayesian horseshoe prior model to impose sparsity on the bias terms. This code has been generalized from research code developed for AIACHNE into a package that should have more general application in a wider class of statistical models.

ORBIT-2 Weather and Climate Downscaling Software Repository

ORBIT-2 is a scalable foundation model for global, hyper-resolution climate and weather downscaling. ORBIT-2 incorporates two key innovations: (1) Residual Slim ViT (Reslim), a lightweight architecture with residual learning and Bayesian regularization for efficient, robust prediction; and (2) TILES, a tile-wise sequence scaling algorithm that reduces self-attention complexity from quadratic to linear, enabling long-sequence processing and massive parallelism. ORBIT-2 scales to 10 billion parameters across 65,536 GPUs, achieving up to 4.1 ExaFLOPS sustained throughput and 74–98% strong scaling efficiency. It supports downscaling to 0.9 km global resolution and processes sequences up to 4.2 billion tokens. On 7 km resolution benchmarks, ORBIT-2 achieves high accuracy with 𝑅2 scores in range of 0.98–0.99 against observation data.
