Testbed-based Evaluation of SIEM Tool for Cyber Kill Chain Model in Power Grid SCADA System

Development of a smarter electric grid necessitates addressing the associated cyber security challenges. Since the interdependence between the legacy grid infrastructure and advanced information technology is growing rapidly, there are numerous ways advanced, motivated, and persistent attackers can affect the SCADA based critical infrastructure. Hence, developing a security information and event management (SIEM) is crucial for securing the SCADA power system. This paper presents the application of Security Onion (SecOn) to develop the network security monitoring (NSM) and intrusion detection system (IDS) in the context of SCADA cyber physical security. Initially, we have applied a cyber kill-chain model to demonstrate the different stages of attacks and associated mechanisms. Later, the rule- based IDS (RIDS) is developed using Snort IDS, and tested in the cyber-physical SCADA environment. Furthermore, we have evaluated its performance in terms of accuracy and detection latency. Our experimental results reveal that the SecOn tool is efficient in monitoring and detecting attacks within an acceptable time frame with a high accuracy rate.

Bifacial Vertical Testbed and Ground Irradiance Data in Golden, Colorado

This data was collected for Tonita et al., “Vertical bifacial photovoltaic system model validation: study with field data, various orientations, and latitudes,” for validation of optical models for vertically-oriented photovoltaics under high albedo. Ground irradiance data for vertical PV arrays modeling in agrivoltaics is also provided. The dataset is provided for further use or study as open source. For any questions on the dataset, email silvana.ovaitt@nlr.gov.

Optical path control in the MAM testbed

Future space-based optical interferometers will require control of the optical path delay to accomplish some or all of the three objectives: balancing the optical path in the two arms to within a tolerance corresponding to the coherence length of the star light being observed, modulating the optical path in order to observe the phase of the star light interference fringe, and modulating the path length in order to reduce the effect of cyclic errors in the laser metrology system used to measure the optical path length in the two arms of the interferometer.

Flight System Testbed for Low Cost Spacecraft Interface Evaluation

A world leader in space technology, JPL has over 30 years experience in developing spacecraft systems and managing deep space missions for NASA. Future scientific missions will require the rapid development of small, lightweight, high-technology, low-cost spacecraft. JPL is developing a method of meeting these requirements: a test facility specifically for supporting a rapid prototyping development environment that creates a virtual (simulated) spacecraft in which system-level evaluations of components can be carried out very early in the development cycle, long before an actual spacecraft is built.
