Transition probabilities in OH A 2 sigma + - X 2 pi i: Bands with v prime = 0 and 1, v double prime = 0 to 4

Experimental results for relative vibrational band transition probabilities for v prime = 0 and 1, and v double prime = 0 to 4 in the A-X electronic system of OH are presented. The measurements, part of a larger set involving v prime = 0 to 4 and v double prime = 0 to 6, were made using spectrally dispersed laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) in the burnt gases of a flame. These Einstein coefficients will be useful in dynamics experiments for quantitative LIF determinations of OH radical concentrations in high v double prime.

OH A 2Sigma - X 2Pi (0,0) band rotational line emission rate factors

This paper presents the results of the emission-rate factor (g factor) calculations for the (0,0) band of the OH (A 2Sigma - X 2Pi) system, for the temperatures 200.0, 240.0, 296.0, 300.0, and 500.0 K, as well as for the individual g factors for each rotational line of the band. The derived g factor at 240 K for the entire band is 0.00055 + or - 0.00011 photon/sec. The g factor for the entire band was found to decrease with increasing temperature, but the difference in the change was less than 10 percent for the temperature range studied. The data on the individual rotational line g factors are valuable for future work on determining OH concentration profiles in the atmosphere, through the observation of the UV fluorescence in the OH (A 2Sigma - X 2Pi) (0,0) band using high-resolution spectrometers of a low-scattered-light design.

Einstein coefficients for rotational lines of the (0,0) band of the NO A2sigma(+)-X2Pi system

A summary of the spectroscopic equations necessary for prediction of the molecular transition energies and the Einstein A and B coefficients for rovibronic lines of the gamma(0,0) band of nitric oxide (NO) is presented. The calculated molecular transition energies are all within 0.57/cm of published experimental values; in addition, over 95 percent of the calculated energies give agreement with measured results within 0.25/cm. Einstein coefficients are calculated from the band A00 value and the known Hoenl-London factors and are tabulated for individual rovibronic transitions in the NO A2sigma(+)-X2Pi(0,0) band.

Well-defined Pt(0) heterogeneous hydrosilylation catalysts supported by a surface bound phosphenium

Single atom, low valent transition metals are important for heterogeneous catalysis but are challenging to generate and stabilize in a well-defined manner. Herein, we explored the functionalization of silica with well-defined N-heterocyclic phosphenium (NHP) ions to heterogenize low-valent metals. The surface electro-statically bound [NHP] + coordinate to Pt(0) precursors resulting in well-defined, chemisorbed [(NHP)Pt(0)L n ] + sites. The resulting materials catalyze the hydrosilylation of alkynes and exhibit activities and selectivities that rival the current industry standard homogeneous catalysts. The catalysts leach Pt limiting their recyclability; however, recycling studies support that the high regioselectivities arise from heterogeneous sites and Pt particles do not form on the surface. Here we suspect that this phosphenium-based immobilization strategy will result in stable, tunable, low valent heterogeneous transition metal catalysts in a wider array of catalytic reactions.

Spinor-based coupled cluster thermochemistry: RgF and CnF 0/+ as compared to AuF and HgF 0/+

A relativistic coupled cluster approach that includes spin-orbit variationally in the eXact 2-component (X2C) approximation with the inclusion of the Gaunt interaction (X2Cg) was used to probe the thermochemistry and ground state spectroscopic constants of RgF, CnF, and CnF + . Utilizing large sequences of correlation consistent basis sets at the X2Cg-CCSD(T) level of theory, this work reports 0 K bond dissociation energies (BDEs) of AuF, RgF, HgF 0/+ , and CnF 0/+ , as well as ionization energies of Au, Rg, Hg, Cn, HgF, and CnF.

Model-independent determination of the strong-phase difference between D 0 and D ¯ 0 → π + π − π + π − decays

Measurements of the strong-phase difference between D 0 and D ¯ 0 → π + π − π + π − are performed in bins of phase space. The study exploits a sample of quantum-correlated D D ¯ mesons collected by the BESIII experiment in e + e − collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb − 1 . Here, D denotes a neutral charm meson in a superposition of flavor eigenstates. The reported results are valuable for measurements of the C P -violating phase γ (also denoted ϕ 3 ) in B ± → D K ± , D → π + π − π + π − decays, and the binning schemes are designed to provide good statistical sensitivity to this parameter. The expected uncertainty on γ arising from the precision of the strong-phase measurements, when applied to very large samples of B -meson decays, is around 1.5° or 2°, depending on the binning scheme. The binned strong-phase parameters are combined to give a value of F + 4 π = 0.746 ± 0.010 ± 0.004 for the C P -even fraction of D 0 → π + π − π + π − decays, which is around 30% more precise than the previous best measurement of this quantity. Measurement of Λ b 0 , Λ c + , and Λ Decay Parameters Using Λ b 0 → Λ c + h − Decays

A comprehensive study of the angular distributions in the bottom-baryon decays Λ b 0 → Λ c + h − ( h = π , K ) , followed by Λ c + → Λ h + with Λ → p π − or Λ c + → p K S 0 decays, is performed using a data sample of proton-proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb − 1 collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. The decay parameters and the associated charge-parity ( C P ) asymmetries are measured, with no significant C P violation observed. For the first time, the Λ b 0 → Λ c + h − decay parameters are measured. The most precise measurements of the decay parameters α , β , and γ are obtained for Λ c + decays and an independent measurement of the decay parameters for the strange-baryon Λ decay is provided. The results deepen our understanding of weak decay dynamics in baryon decays. © 2024 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration 2024 CERN

Angular analysis of the B 0 → K ⁎ (892) 0 μ + μ − decay in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV

A full set of optimized observables is measured in an angular analysis of the decay B 0 → K* (892) 0 μ + μ – using a sample of proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV, collected with the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140fb –1 . The analysis is performed in six bins of the squared invariant mass of the dimuon system, q 2 , over the range 1.1 < q 2 < 16 GeV 2 . The results are among the most precise experimental measurements of the angular observables for this decay and are compared to a variety of predictions based on the standard model. Some of these predictions exhibit tension with the measurements.

Measurement of spin-density matrix elements in 𝜙⁡(1020) → 𝐾$^{0}_{𝑆}$⁢𝐾$^{0}_{𝐿}$ photoproduction with a linearly polarized photon beam at 𝐸 𝛾 = 8.2–8.8 GeV

We measure the spin-density matrix elements (SDMEs) for the photoproduction of 𝜙⁡(1020) off of the proton in its decay to 𝐾$^{0}_{𝑆}$⁢𝐾$^{0}_{𝐿}$, using 105 pb −1 of data collected with a linearly polarized photon beam using the GlueX experiment. The SDMEs are measured in nine bins of the squared four-momentum transfer 𝑡 in the range −𝑡=0.15−1.0 GeV 2 , providing the first measurement of their 𝑡 dependence for photon beam energies of 𝐸 𝛾 = 8.2−8.8 GeV. We confirm the dominance of Pomeron exchange in this region and put constraints on the contribution of other Regge exchanges. We also find that helicity amplitudes where the helicity of the photon and 𝜙⁡(1020) differ by two units are negligible.

New graph-neural-network flavor tagger for Belle II and measurement of sin 2⁢𝜙 1 in 𝐵 0 → 𝐽/𝜓⁢𝐾$^0_ S$ decays

We present GFlaT, a new algorithm that uses a graph-neural-network to determine the flavor of neutral 𝐵 mesons produced in ϒ⁡(4⁢𝑆) decays. It improves previous algorithms by using the information from all charged final-state particles and the relations between them. We evaluate its performance using 𝐵 decays to flavor-specific hadronic final states reconstructed in a 362 fb −1 sample of electron-positron collisions collected at the ϒ⁡(4⁢𝑆) resonance with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. We achieve an effective tagging efficiency of (37.40 ± 0.43 ± 0.36%), where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic, which is 18% better than the previous Belle II algorithm. Demonstrating the algorithm, we use 𝐵 0 →𝐽/𝜓⁢𝐾$^0_ S$ decays to measure the mixing-induced and direct 𝐶⁢𝑃 violation parameters, 𝑆 = (0.724 ± 0.035 ± 0.009) and 𝐶 = (−0.035 ± 0.026 ± 0.029).

Observations of annual and El Nino thermal and flow variations at 0 deg, 110 deg W and 0 deg, 95 deg W during 1980-1985

The paper describes the low-frequency (i.e., time scales longer than a month) upper ocean (above 250 m) current and temperature moored measurements conducted from March 1980 to September 1985 at 0, 110 deg W and from July 1981 to November 1983 (i.e., including the period of the 1982-1983 El Nino) at 0, 95 deg W. Estimates of the annual cycle were removed from the observations to determine the current and temperature fluctuations due to the 1982-1983 El Nino. The circulation of the upper ocean was found to be dramatically altered during the El Nino: the normally westward flowing surface current in autumn months reversed direction, and the equatorial undercurrent, normally considered to be a permanent feature, disappeared. Associated with the El Nino was a massive redistribution of heat throughout the mixed layer and the thermocline.

Predissociation linewidths of the (1,0)-(12,0) Schumann-Runge absorption bands of O2 in the wavelength region 179-202 nm

A nonlinear least-squares method of retrieving predissociation linewidths from the experimental absolute absorption cross sections of Yoshino et al. (1983) has been applied to the (1,0)-(12,0) Schumann-Runge bands of oxygen. The predissociation linewidths deduced are larger than the theoretical predictions of Julienne (1976) and the latest measurements of Lewis et al. (1986). The larger linewidths found will have an impact on calculations of solar flux penetration into the earth atmosphere and of the photodissociation rates of trace species in the upper atmosphere.

Predissociation linewidths of the (3,0)-(11,0) Schumann-Runge absorption bands of (O-18)2 and O-16O-18 in the wavelength region 180-196 nm

The Yoshino et al. (1988) measurements of absolute cross sections and those of Cheung et al. (1988) for spectroscopic constants are presently used to derive the predissociation linewidths of the (3,0)-(11,0) Schumman-Runge bands of (O-18)2 and O-16O-18, in the 180-196 nm wavelength region. Linewidths are determined as parameters in the nonlinear, least-squares fitting of calculated cross-sections to measured ones. The predissociation linewidths obtained are noted to often be greater than previously obtained experimental values for both isotopic molecules.

Increasing the yield of Ar((sup 3)P(sub 2, 0)) and Ne((sub 3)P(sub 2, 0)) effusing from a glow discharge by using a longitudinal magnetic field

It is demonstrated that a longitudinal magnetic field applied to a low-pressure, low-voltage, hot cathode glow discharge will substantially increase the intensity of metastable atoms effusing from a central anode slit. For an argon discharge there is a fourfold increase in the effusing Ar((sup 3)P(sub 2, 0)) atom intensity and for neon there is a 14-fold increase in Ne((sup 3)P(sub 2, 0)) intensity.

Calculated hydroxyl A2 sigma --> X2 pi (0, 0) band emission rate factors applicable to atmospheric spectroscopy

A calculation of the A2 sigma --> X2 pi (0, 0) band emission rate factors and line center absorption cross sections of OH applicable to its measurement using solar resonant fluorescence in the terrestrial atmosphere is presented in this paper. The most accurate available line parameters have been used. Special consideration has been given to the solar input flux because of its highly structured Fraunhofer spectrum. The calculation for the OH atmospheric emission rate factor in the solar resonant fluorescent case is described in detail with examples and intermediate results. Results of this calculation of OH emission rate factors for individual rotational lines are on average 30% lower than the values obtained in an earlier work.
