A chart has been prepared that lists some of the properties relevant to cosmic ray studies of all the significant nuclides between lithium and nickel. On this chart there are shown all the possible decays that might be of interest in the unique conditions experienced by cosmic ray nuclei, various abundance figures and the probable nucleosynthesis processes of origin.
Program produces flow chart of any program written in FORTRAN. Each FORTRAN statement is printed with symbol representing actions required during execution. Flow chart is generated on line-printer. This program is in COBOL for batch execution on IBM 370-series computer.

The validity of the daily sea ice concentration charts obtained from Nimbus-7 SMMR data is tested against thermal IR NOAA AVHRR-4 images with a 1.1 x 1.1 km resolution. Polynyas and fractures recorded in both data sets are compared for the same times over the same areas. Although the coarser resolution of SMMR data leads to a loss of detail, it is found that the ice concentration charts provide valuable data on openings in the ice. The SMMR data on the location, orientation, and size of polynyas and fractures are shown to be in good agreement with the AVHRR data. Also, the results suggest that the location and orientation of plynyas and fractures are related to the direction of surface winds.
Real-time monitor system provides bar-chart displays of significant operating parameters developed for National Full-Scale Aerodynamic Complex at Ames Research Center. Designed to gather and process sensory data on operating conditions of wind tunnels and models, and displays data for test engineers and technicians concerned with safety and validation of operating conditions. Bar-chart video monitor displays data in as many as 50 channels at maximum update rate of 2 Hz in format facilitating quick interpretation.
This report presents charts which reduce the stress analysis of circular and elliptic rings of uniform cross section subjected to balanced systems of concentrated loads from a statically indeterminate problem to a statically determinate one. To demonstrate the use of the charts in the stress analysis of elliptic rings, an illustrative problem is included.
The preliminary selection of a propeller on the basis of cruising and take-off performance for application to transport airplanes at flight Mach numbers up to 0.8 can be accomplished by the use of charts and methods presented. The charts are of sufficient scope to permit a fairly rapid evaluation of the propeller performance for engine power ratings of 1,000 to 10,000 horsepower. The method is presented primarily in the interest of propeller-noise abatement.
As a means of comparing the performance capabilities of various helicopter propulsion systems, charts have been presented for estimating the hovering endurance of a helicopter in the form of a hovering-endurance parameter as a function of the ratio of total fuel load to helicopter initial weight for a range of initial thrust coefficients from 0.002 to 0.012 and for values of rotor mean lift coefficient from 0.24 to .072. The charts were presented for a helicopter having rotor blades with ideal twist. However, corrections may be applied to the hovering endurance to account for other combinations of twist and taper. The effects of stall and compressibility have been neglected.
Direct-reading design charts are presented for 75S-T6 aluminum-alloy flat compression panels having longitudinal extruded Z-section stiffeners. These charts, which cover a wide range of proportions, make possible the direct determination of the stress and all panel dimensions required to carry a given intensity of loading with a given skin thickness and effective length of panel.
Contains charts for use in determining preliminary values of the spanwise-load, shear, bending-moment, and accumulated-torque distributions of swept wings. The charts are based on strip theory and include four aerodynamic-load distributions, two section-moment distributions, and two inertia-load distributions. The taper ratios considered cover the range from 1.0 to 0 and the results are applicable to any angle of sweep.
This report, which is a revision and extension of NACA-TN-1428, presents a compilation of equations, tables, and charts useful in the analysis of high-speed flow of a compressible fluid. The equations provide relations for continuous one-dimensional flow, normal and oblique shock waves, and Prandtl-Meyer expansions for both perfect and imperfect gases. The tables present useful dimensionless ratios for continuous one-dimensional flow and for normal shock waves as functions of Mach number for air considered as a perfect gas. One series of charts presents the characteristics of the flow of air (considered a perfect gas) for oblique shock waves and for cones in a supersonic air stream. A second series shows the effects of caloric imperfections on continuous one-dimensional flow and on the flow through normal and oblique shock waves. (author)
In order to simplify the calculation of beams continuous over three supports, a series of charts have been calculated giving the bending moments at all the critical points and the reactions at all supports for such members. Using these charts as a basis, calculations of equivalent bending moments, representing the total stresses acting in two bay-wing trusses of proportions varying over a wide range, have been determined, both with and without allowance for column effect. This leads finally to the determination of the best proportions for any particular truss or the best strut locations in any particular airplane. The ideal proportions are found to vary with the thickness of the wing section used, the aspect ratio, and the ratio of gap to chord.
This report is concerned with the derivation of a chart for estimating the absolute ceiling of an airplane. This chart may be used in conjunction with the usual curves of power required and power available as an accurate substitute for extended calculation, or it may be used in the estimation of absolute ceiling when power curves are not available.
This report presents general formulas for the determination of all major airplane performance characteristics. A rigorous analysis is used, making no assumption regarding the attitude of the airplane at which maximum rate of climb occurs, but finding the attitude at which the excess thrust horsepower is maximum. Equations and charts are developed which show the variation of performance due to a change in any of the customary design parameters. Performance determination by use of the formulas and charts is rapid and explicit. The results obtained by this performance method have been found to give agreement with flight tests that is, in general, equal or superior to results obtained by present commonly used methods.
General formulas are given for propellers for the rate of change of side-force coefficient with angle of yaw and for the rate of change of pitching-moment coefficient with angle of yaw. Charts of the side-force derivative are given for two propellers of different plan form. The charts cover solidities of two to six blades and single and dual rotation. The blade angle ranges from 15 degrees or 20 degrees to 60 degrees.
Charts are presented for checking the stability of plane systems of rods, the use of the charts being illustrated by examples. It is also indicated how best to combine the individual members to form stable structures.
The present report contains a set of charts developed for computing the fixity effect on a compression member in a truss through its adjacent members, the amount of fixity being considered variable with the particular total truss load. The use of the charts is illustrated on two- and three-bay systems, as well as on a triangular truss.
