The real-time data processing and acquisition system for Project 8 Phase II

In Phase II of the Project 8 neutrino mass experiment, electrons from the decays of tritium or 83m Kr are detected via their ≈26 GHz cyclotron radiation while contained within a circular waveguide. The signal from a given electron is characterized as a brief chirp, lasting ≲10 ms and changing in frequency by ≲1 MHz/ms. To detect these signals, the Project 8 collaboration developed a Data Acquisition (DAQ) system tailored to the signal properties. The DAQ is responsible for simultaneously selecting up to three 100 MHz-wide frequency windows to study, detect, and trigger on likely signals from different electron kinetic energies, and for writing the relevant data to disk. Finally, we describe the Phase II DAQ system in detail and address how the system was used for data-taking operations.

Continuing Development of the Nuclear Data Processing Code AMPX [Poster]

The ENDF/B-VIII.1 evaluation library has seen a great growth in the thermal neutron scattering sub-library. The SCALE code system has traditionally approached CE transport by assuming that the CE library on disk represented the fully expanded cumulative probability distributions, conditional on exiting angle and marginal on exiting energy. While this is a complete description of the data, it comes at the potential cost of large amounts of on-disk storage. This approach was strained by several TSL files in ENDF/B-VIII.1, such as graphite, which contained data for a large number of Bragg edges. In the fully expanded probability distributions, this was found to be a disproportionately large fraction of the SCALE CE library.

SAIL Radar b1 Data Processing: Corrections, Calibrations, and Processing Report

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) user facility deployed the second ARM Mobile Facility (AMF2) near Crested Butte, Colorado for the Surface Atmosphere Integrated Field Laboratory (SAIL) campaign. The SAIL campaign occurred from September 1, 2021, to June 15 2023. To study the water cycle in the East River Watershed, ARM deployed a vertically pointing Ka-band ARM Zenith radar (KAZR) and a scanning X-band precipitation radar managed by Colorado State University (CSU XPRECIP), as shown in Figure 1.

BNF Radar b1 Data Processing Report: Spring 2025

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) User Facility supports atmospheric science through an integrated network of fixed and mobile observatories. These facilities collect continuous and campaign-based observations of atmospheric properties, with the goal of improving the representation of clouds, aerosols, precipitation, and radiation in Earth system models. The Bankhead National Forest (BNF) site, established as an ARM Mobile Facility (AMF) on 1 October 2024, is situated in a forested region of northern Alabama. Its strategic location in a southeastern U.S. environment characterized by complex terrain, diverse land cover, and frequent convective storms provides a valuable opportunity to examine coupled land-atmosphere processes under natural variability.

Eddy Covariance Flux / Processed Data

This dataset consists of estimates of mean and turbulent quantities from a vertical array of instruments installed on the barge met mast, including: sonic anemometers, relative humidity and temperature, pressure, and rain. One of the levels consists of a paired sonic anemometer and infrared gas analyzer for direct covariance sensible and latent heat fluxes. Mean and turbulent quantities are determined over 20-minute averaging periods.
