Characteristics of Flow Past Fuselages and Wing-Fuselage Systems of Gliders

The results are presented for visualization tests and measurements of the velocity field in diffusion regions (with a positive pressure gradient) for fuselages and transition regions between the wing and the fuselage. Wind tunnel and flight tests were performed. Specific emphasis was placed on examining the secondary flow influencing separation acceleration and the influence of the geometrical form of the wing fuselage system manifested by the occurrence of secondary flows of various types.

Lessons of the glider meets

While light loading was assumed to be the optimal conformation from previous meets, subsequent meets have shown that heavier loading produced better results.

Engines and propellers for powered gliders and light airplanes

The object of the present paper is to consider the interaction of engine, propeller, and airplane for the low-power range. The discussion is presented in a form so as to provide the engine builder with a basis in his selection in the type of engine required, a suitable selection being possible only in connection with considerations on the best possible propeller.

Development of tailless and all-wing gliders and airplanes

Tailless airplanes are characterized by having all their control surfaces, especially the elevator, incorporated in the wings. This paper provides a discussion of the history of their development and current state of development.
