The influence of rubidium (Rb), both in its metallic and oxidized states, on the corrosion resistance of steels has direct relevance to the storage of radioactive Kr-85 containing nuclear materials. Kr-85 undergoes a ß-decay to generate stable, metallic Rb. The literature to date is sparse, contained primarily in company reports and divisive as to whether Rb metal, or its oxides, can lead to corrosion of steel materials. In both the direct storage of Kr-85 and used nuclear fuel that will contain Kr-85, if Rb is corrosive then continual decay of the Kr-85 will generate an increasingly corrosive environment for the steel canister it is stored in. This review was written to consolidate the known data to date on Rb corrosion of steels to identify consistencies, contradictions and remaining gaps in our understanding of the Rb : steel system.

Potential energy surfaces for reactions involving N 2 H 2 isomers of diazene (diimide) have been explored using density functional theory, with energies based on coupled-cluster theory. A focus is on processes that create or consume these species, and isomerisation between the E (trans) and Z (cis) forms of HNNH. Furthermore, these include isomerisation and dissociation pathways for HNNH, addition of H atoms to form N 2 H 3 , abstraction by H atoms yielding short-lived NNH, and abstraction reactions of H with N 2 H 3 . Transition state and capture theories are applied for high-pressure-limiting behaviour, while low-pressure and falloff regions are characterised via the methods of Troe and coworkers. Rate constants and thermochemistry are provided to improve models of diamine chemistry, relevant to the combustion of NH 3 especially at high concentrations, high pressures or under reducing conditions. Results indicate that amine radical recombination mainly yields the E HNNH isomer, while H-abstraction from N 2 H 3 results in E HNNH and H 2 NN. However, at elevated temperature E → Z isomerisation becomes competitive, and Z HNNH, being more reactive, acts to enhance the diazene consumption rate.
For decades, copper has been introduced in CdTe devices to improve overall performance (open circuit voltage, fill factor, and series resistance). While multiple articles have reported on Cu-based defects, very little is known about how the local structure around the copper atom affects electrical performance. Using X-ray Absorption Near Edge Structure (XANES) coupled with X-ray microscopy we investigate good and poor performing region in Cu-doped CdTe devices. Our XANES coupled with theoretical standards by FEFF9 suggest that CU 2 Te phase and Cu Cd may be responsible for the high electrical performance of the regions under study. This correlation of structure-performance at the nanoscale offers a unique framework to understand and tune processes with deep implications to the overall electrical performance of the solar cell.
Most distributed residential photovoltaic (PV) systems must secure an interconnection agreement prior to operation that ensures the local electrical system will operate safely within the broader electrical grid. PV installers generally submit an interconnection application to the local utility that provides all the necessary details the utility needs to evaluate the proposed system. To encourage timely execution of this process, many states’ utility commissions have established mandates that limit the maximum number of days allowed for utility review and approval of interconnection for certain small, often residential applications. In this paper, we derive the median and range of cycle times for the pre-installation approval phase of the interconnection process (i.e., from application submission to approval by the utility) across 24 U.S. states, using a data set of approximately 170,000 projects. We evaluate the percentage of projects that are approved within respective state-mandated timelines from 2017– 2019. We further evaluate how timelines have evolved since 2012 for a subset of five states: Arizona, California, Colorado, New Jersey, and New York. The analyses are divided into two size ranges: systems that are ≤10 kilowatts (kW), and systems that are 11–50 kW.

Internal and vibrational partition functions of carbon dioxide and rotational line intensities arising from transitions from ground and first excited states
Preliminary proton nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) studies were made to determine the applicability of this technique for the study of interactions between monomeric and polymeric amino acids with monomeric nucleic acid bases and nucleotides. Proton NMR results for aqueous solutions (D2O) demonstrated interactions between the bases cytosine and adenine and acidic and aromatic amino acids. Solutions of 5'-AMP admixed with amino acids exhibited more complex behavior but stacking between aromatic rings and destacking at high amino acids concentration was evident. The multisite nature of 5'-AMP was pointed out. Chemical shift changes for adenine and 5'-AMP with three water soluble polypeptides demonstrated that significant interactions exist. It was found that the linewidth-pH profile of each amino acid is unique. It is concluded that NMR techniques can give significant and quantitative data on the association of amino acid and nucleic acid constituents.

Auroral emissions generated by the Jovian moons Io and Europa, originating at the foot of the magnetic flux tubes of the satellites, may be largely limited to longitudes where the planet's ionospheric conductivity is enhanced. The enhanced conductivity is produced by trapped energetic electrons that drift into the Jovian atmosphere in regions where the planet's magnetic field is anomalously weak. The most active auroral hot-spot emissions lie in a sector of the northern hemisphere defined by decametric radio emission. Weaker auroral hot spots are found in the southern hemisphere along a magnetic conjugate trace. The brightness and the longitude of the Jovian hot spots predicted in this paper are in agreement with observations reported by Atreya et al. (1977).

The proper framework for testing Rastall's theory and its generalizations is in the case of non-negligible (i.e. discernible) gravitational effects such as gravity gradients. These theories have conserved integral four-momentum and angular momentum. The Nordtvedt effect then provides limits on the parameters which arise as the result of the non-zero divergence of the energy-momentum tensor.

The principle objectives of the current program were to experimentally investigate the repeatability of acoustic and aerodynamic characteristics of 2D-CD mixer-ejector nozzles and the effects on the acoustic and aerodynamic characteristics of 2D mixer-ejectors due to (1) the configurational variations, which include mixers with aligned CD chutes, aligned convergent chutes, and staggered CD chutes and aerodynamic cycle variables, (2) treatment variations by using different treatment materials, treating the ejector with varying area, location, and treatment thickness for a mixer-ejector configuration, and (3) secondary inlet shape (i.e., a more realistic inlet) and the blockage across the inlet (a possible fin-like structure needed for installation purpose) by modifying one of the inlet of a mixer-ejector configuration. The objectives also included the measurement dynamic pressures internal to the ejector for a few selected configuration to examine the internal noise characteristics.
