Dataset: Breaking the barrier of human-annotated training data for machine-learning-aided plant research using aerial imagery

This dataset supports the implementation described in the manuscript "Breaking the Barrier of Human-Annotated Training Data for Machine-Learning-Aided Biological Research Using Aerial Imagery." It comprises UAV aerial imagery used to execute the code available at https://github.com/pixelvar79/GAN-Flowering-Detection-paper. For detailed information on dataset usage and instructions for implementing the code to reproduce the study, please refer to the GitHub repository.

Aerial and Processed Model Data Representing As-built Conditions in Coastal Port Arthur, Texas in May 2025

This dataset was collected by the Co-Design Team of the Southeast Texas Urban Integrated Field Lab, a research initiative led by the University of Texas at Austin and funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. The broader project focuses on developing climate-resilient design solutions for the Beaumont–Port Arthur region, with more information available at www.setx-uifl.org. Our team conducted aerial surveys of the Port Arthur coastal neighborhood in May 2025, before the start of construction scheduled for Summer 2026. These pre-construction datasets are designed to facilitate comparative analyses, including pre- and post-construction assessments and simulated inundation scenario evaluations. Aerial images were captured using DroneDeploy autonomous flight systems, with imagery processed through the DroneDeploy engine. All original aerial photographs are provided in JPG format and organized in zipped folders by area. The processed data package includes: 3D surface models Orthomosaics Geospatial and topographic mappings Point clouds For guidance on file contents, structure, and recommended usage, please refer to the included README file.

Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR)/Camera Technologies to Detect Avian Events and Other Environmental Measures at Utility- Scale Power Plants (Final Report)

The goal of this project was to develop and validate two complementary, cost-effective remote sensing technologies to monitor avian fatalities at utility-scale solar facilities: fixed platform (Animal Activity Monitoring-AAM) and aerial-based (Uncrewed Aircraft Systems-UAS). This project used these features with machine learning to automate the detection of avian carcasses and nests at solar facilities.

National Laboratories for Environmental Management and Stewardship (NNLEMS) National Lab Capabilities in Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) (Revision 1)

The Network of National Laboratories for Environmental Management and Stewardship (NNLEMS) formed an Unoccupied Aircraft Systems (UAS) topical team in spring 2025 for the purpose of documenting the capabilities of the National Laboratories relevant to the goals and needs of the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Legacy Management (LM). The team was comprised of representatives from eight National Laboratories (Table 1), thereby bringing diverse skillsets from across the DOE complex. Recognizing that LM has extensive experience working with UAS contractors and using data collected from UAS, the topical team focused on the National Laboratories’ unique capabilities and types of scientific investigations that are not yet commercially available or easily contracted as services.

GreenSight WxHive Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Atmospheric Profiling at the SGP Central Facility

The GreenSight WxHive is capable of flying multiple nanodrones simultaneously to provide spatiotemporal atmospheric sampling. During the WH2yMSIE campaign, the WxHive would fly up to 5 nanodrones at once, performing profiling within the planetary boundary layer over the ARM SGP Central Facility site. The measurements provided by the WxHive include latitude, longitude, altitude, pressure, temperature, humidity, and wind speed and direction. See the attached WeatherHive User Guide for more details about the instrument and measurements.
