Raw Lidar and Camera Data Synchronized with Precipitation and Present Weather Data

As part of the sensor characterization task of the SMART 2.0 project, this dataset includes raw data from three spinning lidars ([Ouster OS2-128](https://ouster.com/products/scanning-lidar/os2-sensor/), [Velodyne Puck (VLP-16)](https://velodynelidar.com/products/puck/), and [Velodyne Ultra Puck (VLP-32)](https://velodynelidar.com/products/ultra-puck/)), one camera ([Mako G-319](https://www.alliedvision.com/en/camera-selector/detail/mako/g-319/)), and one present weather sensor ([Vaisala FD-70](https://www.vaisala.com/en/products/weather-environmental-sensors/forward-scatter-fd70)). All data were synchronized, with the log start time indicated in the file name (HHMMSS). The data can be filtered by date, log time (HHMMSS), sensor, frame ID, and weather classification. These data were gathered statically at the Argonne Testbed for Multiscale Observational Science (ATMOS). Two target stop signs were placed in view of the sensors to contribute a target for comparing sensor data under different conditions. The weather data for each day are stored in netCDF “.nc” files. The lidar data contain the X, Y, Z, intensity, reflectivity, and ring from Ouster OS2-128 rev6, Velodyne VLP-16, and Velodyne VLP-32 lidars. ![raw lidar image](LiDAR_pointcloud_ATMOS.png)

Scoping Study: Highly Enriched Uranium Isotopic Assessments Using Gamma Spectroscopy Relative Efficiency Analysis When No Uranium-232 Is Present

This report documents results for a scoping study evaluating the viability of using the higher energy, low yield U-235 gamma emission at 345.9 keV to link low energy U-235 emissions to high energy U-238 emissions (rather than U-232 decay products gamma emissions) for highly enriched uranium isotopic gamma spectroscopy relative efficiency assessments when no or little U-232 is present and the U-235 signal is strong.

Project Presentation: Hardware-Based Demonstration of Temperature Control Functions for Reactor Systems

Autonomous thermal regulation in nuclear reactors remains crucial for maintaining stable operation and ensuring the integrity of fuel. To alleviate public skepticism of the safety of nuclear reactors, demonstrating control over this key factor is pivotal. Utilizing electric heat pads to simulate the heat released in a reactor core, thermocouples for temperature monitoring, and an Arduino micro programmable logic controller (PLC) with an embedded proportional-integral-derivative (PID) algorithm for control, a hardware-based demonstration of a reactor heating system will validate the efficacy of reactor control over this key parameter. This report covers internship project presentation as well as relevant experience with nuclear and proposal for project upgrade.

Technical Background and Validation Report on the Residential Water Inhalation Risk Calculator Presented in the Risk Assessment Information System

Indoor air quality (IAQ) is critical for human health. Poor IAQ is linked to respiratory issues, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. Indoor pollutants are emitted by typical household items such as cleaning products, personal care items, building materials, and tap water - an understudied volatile organic compound (VOC) source. This document presents the Residential Water Inhalation Risk Calculator (RWIRC), which estimates daily VOC exposure concentrations from various household water uses, such as showering and dishwashing, to assess exposure risks for the most vulnerable occupant. Integrated into the Risk Assessment Information System (RAIS) and sponsored by the US Department of Energy (DOE), the calculator divides a house into three compartments: shower, bathroom, and other spaces, accounting for daily water usage patterns and calculating VOC concentrations. Exposure data generated using the calculator can assist health assessors in estimating excess lifetime cancer risk (ELCR) and hazard index (HI) from VOC inhalation. Unlike traditional exposure models that utilize Andelman’s constant, the RWIRC continuously assesses variability in VOC concentrations and environmental conditions using differential equations to track VOC concentrations and air exchange between compartments. The calculator also provides unique volatilization fractions for each chemical and appliance, enhancing accuracy of the exposure concentration estimation. The RWIRC is accessible online and allows users to customize parameters (i.e., number of bathrooms, water temperature, and exhaust fan conditions) and input VOC characteristics (i.e., tap water and ambient air concentrations). This document provides a step-by-step guide on implementing the calculator. It also provides comparisons with the ATSDR-SHOWER calculator, using eight VOCs with varying physicochemical properties to reveal differences in algorithms and output concentrations. Simulations also assess how bathroom door positions and exhaust fan usage affect VOC exposure. The calculator results can enhance EPA risk screening levels for inhalation exposure to VOCs from tap water, offering a sophisticated tool for assessing inhalation risks and improving public health protection.
