Organic charge-transfer (CT) co-crystals in a mixed stack system are disclosed, wherein a donor molecule (D) and an acceptor molecule (A) occupy alternating positions (DADADA) along the CT axis. A platform is provided which amplifies the molecular recognition of donors and acceptors and produces co-crystals at ambient conditions, wherein the platform comprises (i) a molecular design of the first constituent (.alpha.-complement), (ii) a molecular design of the second compound (.beta.-complement), and (iii) a solvent system that promotes co-crystallization.
Engineering higher education increasingly produces data in the volume, variety, velocity, and need for veracity such that the output of the research is considered “Big Data”. While engineering faculty members do conceive of and direct the research producing this data, there may be gaps in faculty members’ knowledge in training graduate and undergraduate research assistants in the management of Big Data. The project described herein details the development of a Big Data education module for a group of graduate researchers and undergraduate research assistants in Electrical and Computer Engineering. This project has the following objectives: to document and describe current data management practices; to identify gaps in knowledge that need to be addressed in order for research assistants to successfully manage Big Data; and to create curricular interventions to address these gaps. This paper details the motivation, relevant literature, research methodology, curricular intervention, and pilot presentation of the module. Results indicate that, generally, students involved in Big Data projects need comprehensive introduction to the topic, which will be most effective when contextualized to the work that they are performing in the research or classroom environment.

The invention relates to a nuclear plant in which the power of a nuclear reactor is controlled via demand of a connected electric grid. A naturally circulating nuclear reactor coolant loop is linked to a water/steam loop by means of a steam generator. The water/steam loop consists of an electric power generating unit and a water recirculating and steam control system. The generator is coupled to an external power grid. As power requirements of the grid change, a controller linked to the generator and a three way valve divides steam flow between the expansion turbine and a feedwater heater to boost or retard the power output. Altering the steam flow changes the pressure and temperature in the water/steam system and thus the coolant flow rate. The change in coolant flow allows the reactor core to regulate its reactivity to reach a state of equilibrium to the demand for electric power.
