Electro-Optical Stability in Gallium Magnesium Zinc Oxide Layers for CdTe Solar Cells

In CdTe solar cells, the emitter electron density, bandgap, and band alignment can be tuned by adjusting alloy composition and stoichiometry in gallium magnesium zinc oxide (GMZO) layers, thereby allowing for critical front interface engineering. For example, computational modeling indicates efficiency can change from 7% to 25% by adjusting these buffer properties even with fixed CdSeTe and CdTe material properties. However, the GMZO as-deposited electro-optical properties can shift during subsequent CdTe deposition, CdCl 2 annealing, and solar cell operation. Here, we examine these changes by sputtering GMZO films on glass, and measuring the electron density before and after post-deposition treatments over a range of temperatures and different ambients. We then compare GMZO to SnO 2 and MZO. The addition of Ga to MgZnO is found to have profound effects on both the electron density and electro-optical stability that should be advantageous for CdTe solar cells.

Investigation on High-κ Dielectric for Low Leakage AlGaN/GaN MIS-HEMT Device, Using Material Selection Methodologies

This paper analyzes various high-κ dielectrics for low leakage AlGaN (Aluminium Gallium Nitride)/GaN (Gallium Nitride) MIS-HEMT (Metal Insulator Semiconductor—High Electron Mobility Transistor) device. The investigation is carried out by examining different attributes such as the dielectric constant, conduction band offset, and energy band gap of the dielectric which are crucial for a good dielectric-AlGaN interface. This work also computes the values of band offsets of different dielectrics to AlGaN analytically. The selection of the most promising dielectric is done using three different multi-criteria decision making methods (MCDM) namely the Ashby, VIKOR (VIseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje in Serbian, meaning Multicriteria Optimization and Compromise Solution) and TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution). All the analyses point to La{sub 2}O{sub 3} as the best gate dielectric for AlGaN/GaN MIS-HEMT device.

Eagle Take Minimization System

Laufer Wind (LW) has developed a prototype Eagle Take Minimization System that shows capabilities for autonomously detecting, tracking, and visually identifying eagles and other protected avians out to approximately 1 km range with no human-in-the-loop. This type of detection system is important for animals that fly too close to facilities that can harm them, such as large wind turbine farms. The Eagle Take Minimization System consists of networked and sensor-fused commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) X-band radars, PZT visible cameras and a Central Controller computer that can be interfaced with a wind facility SCADA. The intended design of the Eagle Take System is to detect and reliably identify eagles at far enough range so that proximate turbines can be stopped to greatly reduce the risk of eagle injury or death. These curtailed turbines would be released when eagles have moved away. Other wind turbines that are not in close proximity to eagles would continue producing electricity as usual throughout the process.

Connecting Minds: AI Use Cases to Bridge Power Systems and Large Language Models for Practical Applications

Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and development of large language models (LLMs) present the opportunity to develop a new generation of power systems applications. In contrast with early power system AI applications based on structured numerical data, LLMs offer unique capabilities to perform logical reasoning using text documents, unstructured data, and application programming interface (API) calls to computational software. This paper seeks to bridge the knowledge gap between power systems engineers and LLM developers through a crosscutting explanation of use cases, characteristics, requirements, practical considerations from the perspectives of both LLM capabilities and industry needs. Specific focus is given to applications that can be realistically deployed by electric utilities. After introducing the architecture of LLMs and unique challenges of the power systems domain, this paper proposes twenty representative LLM applications grouped into categories of 1) power system operations, 2) asset management, 3) system planning and analytics, and 4) energy management and protection systems. Five use cases are presented within each category with descriptions of the motivation, objectives, approaches, example inputs / outputs, and benefits of each use case.

Development of a digital control system for a spacecraft propulsion test facility

A digital computer control and abort system which is used at NASA-Lewis research center is described. The system was designed to control test operations such as rocket engine testing, structure testing, and wind tunnel tests. Because of the nature of spacecraft system testing, particularly rocket engine testing, the unique features of the system are, control function updating at a 20 millisecond rate, continuous abort monitoring and a software system designed for short duration tests rather than continuous on-line control. To accomplish these system requirements, special hardware was designed. The presentation includes a description of the computer system and special interface hardware as well as a general description of the software used.

Engineering studies of vectorcardiographs in blood pressure measuring systems, appendix 3

The following subjects were covered: (1) ASM80 manual, (2) signal preprocessing as an aid to on-line EKG analysis, and (3) high speed evaluation of magnetic tape recordings of electrocardiograms. A description of the ASM80 symbolic assembly program for the INTEL 8080 microprocessor and a user's manual were presented. The capability of three redundancy reduction algorithms to produce adequate representations of electrocardiographic data was examined. A hardware device was constructed which carried out zero order interpolation on a signal. Examination of the zero order interpolators reconstructed signal indicated that this representation was adequate for analysis of rhythm. A system to analyze magnetic tapes of electrocardiograms recorded over 24 hour intervals was designed. The recordings are sampled 200 times per second using a Nova computer and a special interface system. This system was tested on several recordings of clinical data, containing over 75 premature ventricular contractions, each one of which was flagged.

Techniques for delineation and portrayal of land cover types using ERTS-1 data

The author has identified the following significant results. ERTS data was used to map land cover in agricultural areas, although in some parts of Pennsylvania, with small irregular fields, many of the pixels overlap field boundaries and cause difficulties in classification. Various techniques and devices were used to display the results of these land cover analyses. The most promising approach would be a user-interactive color monitor interfaced with a large computer so that classification results could be displayed on the CRT and these results output by a hard complete copier.

Man-machine analysis of translation and work tasks of Skylab films

An objective approach to determine the concurrent validity of computer-graphic models is real time film analysis. This technique was illustrated through the procedures and results obtained in an evaluation of translation of Skylab mission astronauts. The quantitative analysis was facilitated by the use of an electronic film analyzer, minicomputer, and specifically supportive software. The uses of this technique for human factors research are: (1) validation of theoretical operator models; (2) biokinetic analysis; (3) objective data evaluation; (4) dynamic anthropometry; (5) empirical time-line analysis; and (6) consideration of human variability. Computer assisted techniques for interface design and evaluation have the potential for improving the capability for human factors engineering.
