Anionic Single-Atom Catalysts for CO Oxidation: Support-Independent Activity at Low Temperatures
We study here 14 atomically dispersed transition metals on halite-type oxides (MeO, Me = Fe, Mg, Mn, and Ni) using periodic density functional theory calculations and probe structure and activity toward CO oxidation for a subset of these systems experimentally. Pd and Pt can form stable negatively charged species upon binding to oxygen vacancies; the magnitude of the metal atom binding energy depends on the O vacancy formation energies of the supporting metal oxide and the lattice match between transition metal and support. The resulting oxide-supported single-atom systems catalyze CO oxidation by molecularly adsorbed O 2 with intrinsic barriers as low as 36 kJ/mol for Pt/MnO x (001). This high activity stems from the single sites’ ability to stabilize surface superoxide species. Furthermore, intrinsic barriers were found to depend primarily on the identity of the transition metal and to be nearly independent of the support identity. However, O 2 may heal the oxygen vacancy, which leads to catalyst deactivation. Catalyst deactivation by oxygen can be suppressed by using a more reducible support such as FeO(001) or MnO(001).

Anion and Cation Migration at 2D/3D Halide Perovskite Interfaces
Here, this study explores the ionic dynamics in 2D/3Dperovskite solar cells, which are known for their improved efficiency and stability. The focus is on the impact of halide choice in 3D perovskites treated with phenethylammonium halide salts (PEAX, X = Br and I). Our findings reveal that light and heat drive ionic migration in these structures, with PEA + species diffusing into the 3D film in PEABr-treated samples. Mixed-halide 3D perovskites show halide interdiffusion, with bromine migrating to the surface and iodine diffusing into the film. Cathodoluminescence microscopy reveals localized 2Dphases on the 3D perovskite, which become more evenly distributed after thermal treatment. Both PEAX salts enhance the performance of photovoltaic devices. This improvement is attributed to the passivation capabilities of the salts themselves and their respective Ruddlesden–Popper (RP) phases. Annealed PEAI-treated devices show a better balance between efficiency and statistical distribution of photovoltaic parameters.

Modulating Surface Anionic Redox Chemistry toward Highly Stable Li-Rich Cathodes with Negligible Oxygen Loss
Low initial Coulombic efficiency and severe capacity/voltage fading during cycling caused by serious irreversible oxygen release, especially in the initial cycle, and resultantly induced unstable electrode/electrolyte interfacial chemistry, largely prohibit the commercial application of high-capacity Li-rich layered oxide cathodes (LLOs). Here, in this work, a dual reductive gas interface cotreatment strategy is applied to regulate the lattice oxygen redox activity and reversibility with a multiple defective structure design including Li/O/TM (TM = transition metal) vacancies and the intrinsic TM doping as well as a full-surface protective layer, which can suppress the irreversible TM migration and then undesirable phase transformation, resisting the corrosion of electrolyte during cycling effectively. Importantly, the introduced reversible SO 3 2- /SO 4 2- redox couple that provides extra capacity compensation could alleviate the distortion of oxygen-central octahedral structure and structural collapse caused by immoderate oxygen oxidation. Thus, the lattice oxygen redox chemistry is optimized, with negligible oxygen loss during the initial cycle. And the designed AS-LLO cathode with greatly enhanced structure stability shows high-capacity retentions of 99.2% at 0.3C after 100 cycles and 82.4% even after 1000 cycles at 5C. This work provides a guideline for manipulating the oxygen redox chemistry to achieve long-lifespan Li-rich layered oxide cathodes for high-energy-density lithium batteries.
