OSW Consortium 2 - Validated National Offshore Wind Resource Dataset with Uncertainty Quantification (CRADA Report)

This research has led to the development of the 2023 National Offshore Wind data set (NOW-23), which offers the latest wind resource information for offshore regions in the United States. NOW-23 supersedes, for its offshore component, the Wind Integration National Dataset (WIND) Toolkit, which was published a decade ago and is currently a primary resource for wind resource assessments and grid integration studies in the contiguous United States. By incorporating advancements in the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model, NOW-23 delivers an updated and cutting-edge product to stakeholders. As part of this project, we also developed a summary of the uncertainty quantification in NOW-23, along with NOW-WAKES, a 1-year post-construction data set that quantifies expected offshore wake effects in the US Mid-Atlantic lease areas. Stakeholders can access the NOW-23 data set at https://doi.org/10.25984/1821404.

Hydrogen Materials Advanced Research Consortium (HyMARC): Sandia Technical Effort

A trilateral agreement has been finalized involving research institutions in Korea, Japan, and the U.S. The project partners are Sandia, LLNL, KIST, KAIST, and AIST. The project title is “Structure-Property Relationships in Metal Alloys for Hydrogen Storage and Processing.” Funding for the U.S. portion of the effort is through NNSA; the PI is Vitalie Stavila. The overall objective of this project is to identify detailed structure-property relationships governing hydrogen separation, purification, storage, and compression in compositionally complex metal alloys.

CalCharge CRADA000008852 Master Agreement Amendment 1, Battery Consortium – Proprietary Activities

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) is partnering with the California Clean Energy Fund to launch CalCharge, an energy storage innovation accelerator, comprised of emerging and established California companies and related organizations developing battery technologies for the electric/hybrid vehicle transportation, the electric grid and consumer electronics markets. The vision of CalCharge is to accelerate the pace of technology innovation, business growth, and cluster development. Calcharge programs will deliver technology acceleration and technical expertise to the energy storage industry, as well as policy and market development support to strengthen the regional economy. LBNL shall collaborate with CalCharge members on the analysis and testing of battery and energy storage technologies. LBNL’s work will include analysis and testing of external design, examination of materials and components either separately or as a whole, and providing data and observations resulting from each collaboration. LBNL shall maintain and provide access to LBNL specialized facilities for research activities performed by or for CalCharge members. In addition, LBNL will provide expertise for short-term consultation, interpretation of testing data, or to clarify technical obstacles if requested by a Member. Over this time frame, Calcharge partnered with several start-ups to provide analytical resources. Those companies include Halotechnics, ZAF Energy Systems, Volkswagen Group of America, Toyota Motor Corporation, and Ensor Inc.

Petrology of aphanitic lithologies in consortium breccia 73215

The paper describes the aphanitic rock that makes up the bulk of 73215, one of the six Apollo 17 samples classified as light-gray breccias. Emphasis is on studies of the fraction that originated as melt, the extent of clast-melt equilibration, the thermal history of the aggregate, and the genesis of the melt.
